Changing date format in excel document

Copper Contributor

Good day,

I have typed up a database and put the date in the following format dd/mm/yyyy.  However, I have since found it will be more beneficial to have it yyyy/mm/dd.  Is there a way to convert the current format to the yyyy/mm/dd?  I need to sort the information and find it will sort better according to the year.

Kind regards

Ilma

It depends on you entered the texts which looks like a dates; or you entered dates which in Excel are actually integer numbers starting from 1 which is equal to Jan 01, 1900. If the latest format only change the way how the date is presenting  in more human friendly form and doesn't affect the sorting.

If you have texts, it's better to convert them before into actual dates. As variant you may select column with such texts, on ribbon Data->Text to Columns and on third step of the wizard select Date and DMY.
