AutoSave doesn't work when saving to local drives

Is there a way to have AutoSave on when not using OneDrive? I save my files on our local server in order to have local backup so the AutoSave feature stays off.

Here's some info from microsoft's support page:

so it sounds very much as if you will have to save to your local server "manually"

I have been searching for this as well. It would seem as if it is only available with OneDrive. There is no technical reason for this other than to promote the use of OneDrive.  It's actually faster and easier to code to the local machine but I think they want everyone on their cloud.
