Calls to iexplore after IE 11 obsolescence

Copper Contributor

Hello community,

we have a legacy Enterprise Application with a feature to launch an IE session (through CMD) displaying content in an external website. Can anybody confirm wit certainty what will happen when calling iexplore after IE 11 is obsolete? Any chance there would be an Edge version that would launch Edge in IE compatibility mode?

Solution

@PatrickMWeber Hello!  After the IE11 desktop application is retired, IE11 will redirect to Microsoft Edge.  Additional information here: Internet Explorer 11 desktop app retirement FAQ - Microsoft Tech Community

Information about IE mode can be found here: What is Internet Explorer mode? | Microsoft Docs

Also, organizations can take steps now to manage their own timeline for IE disablement and communication for their users. We highly recommend applying the Disable IE policy before June 15, 2022 so that organizations can control the date the IE desktop app is disabled.  Thanks!
