Dev channel update to 95.0.1011.1 is live

Microsoft

Hello Insiders!  Today we’re releasing build 95.0.1011.1 to the Dev channel, and we’ve got a lot to talk about!  Last week we had a bunch of resources for extension developers, but for extension users, this week we’ve got some trending extensions you may want to check out:  https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/articles/trending-extensions-on-microsoft-edge-add-ons/m-p/27....  Also, for anybody who’s ever hit F12 and been confounded by the complexity of what pops up, we’ve got an overview of some of the recent work we’ve done to help you make the Dev tools your own:  https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2021/09/14/edge-devtools-93-personalization/.  As for everything else that’s worth talking about this week:

  • Fixed an issue where popups opened from IE mode tabs are sometimes scaled incorrectly.
  • Obsoleted the management policy to control if Legacy Same Site Cookie Behavior is Enabled.

Known issues:

  • Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on YouTube.  As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed.  See this help article for more details.
  • Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error.  The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
  • Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load.  This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
  • Some users are still seeing favorites get duplicated.  This issue should be reduced now that automatic deduplication has been introduced into Insider channels, but we’re still rolling that out in Stable.  We’ve also seen duplication happen when running the manual deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so make sure to leave plenty of time in between runs of the deduplicator.
  • Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other.  Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices.  This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.

As always, we couldn’t do this without all your fantastic feedback!

Vanilla, no extensions. This problem started 3 updates ago. The official EDGE doesn't do this.

Edge Dev started crashing for me after this update. Anything that starts in the regular window freezes the browser after about 10s, and about 5s later Edge just crashes to desktop. Anything I do in an InPrivate-window works fine, but for example opening Settings transfers to a regular window and then subsequently crashes the browser. Anybody else having this problem?

@Tom_Fox

The retarded huge giant **bleep**ing dumb font is a dealbreaker.

I was trying edge today again, and after reading the forums I'll have to return to the outdated chrome version I was using.

Microsoft is always knee-bent on being an **bleep**. The bing-sidebar. The assholeness with changing search options. The bloated context menu. The stupid extensions menu that can't be **bleep**ing hidden.

The is a very simple principle that will keep ALL users happy: just don't be a giant **bleep** and allow users who don't want the garbage to turn it off.

@Tom_Fox

I've looked into the issue, but as you didn't tipped us what system you ride on I checked the fonts in my recluse den.

I do not use horizontal Favorite bar. I prefer right sidebar aka panel with pinned Favorites. Clicking its icon in toolbar swiftly hide/show the panel, so it's convenient. No need for the extra horiz space consumed by Edge when watching windows on FulHD monitor.

I'm not dead tiered now, but I might have overlooked something. My fonts are the same to me. See the screenshot in its glory (full size).

Pay attention, as well, to Fonts settings (second screenshot).

@pp_e2

I haven't changed these settings at all, they are default. But they only apply to text in websites, not to the UI itself.  Changing this doesn't resolve my problem.

I'm typing this on an older laptop with a 1366x768 resolution. My Windows text size is set to 100%. My new laptop will arrive in the next few days with a 1920x1080 display.  It will be interesting to see if I have the same issue there, and how the interface is with a high res display, and text zoom at different presets (125%, 150%)

@josh_bodner - Giving a child item a bigger size than it's parent is a weird UI choice for me. Can you add a UI text size slider please? I think this would be appreciated by people with very high res displays too.

Thanks, I messed up two types of font settings. It had to be Vivaldi which slipped in writing my reply. On the other side, as you have Win, it's your brooch not mine. I've tried to suggest gently only, that there are other system/Edge solutions which work fine.
Wish you the best with your new laptop!

@Mapantz ah, if it's not doing it in another browser install, then it's either something we inherited from Chromium (in which case, Chrome Canary and Chrome Dev should behave the same as Edge Canary and Edge Dev), or it's something that's going on with the way your particular profile/install is set up.  Since you're using Dev, does the same thing happen in Canary?  What about in an InPrivate window or a new profile in Dev?

@darkjeric If it's not happening in InPrivate, then it's likely either an extension or some other way your profile is configured that's causing the crash.  Have you tried any of the normal troubleshooting steps like disabling extensions, clearing your cache, etc.?

@basilief we made a fix for quite a few Instagram issues this week, does it still happen in the latest update?

It's finally been fixed in the latest update! Quite happy about that :party_popper:
