Camera does not work on microsoft teams only
Hi guys!
My camera never works on the app. In any other applications my camera works normally (e.g.: camera app, Firefox browser, whereby, zoom, etc). Is there someone with this problem? I've tried many fixes on the internet. An screenshot of the error with my camera model:
wallybhI had the same issue in Windows build 19592 (insider preview). Just got an update today to version 19603 and voila - Teams is able to activate the cameras again!
- AWuMDCopper ContributorSame here. My Logitech Brio works always with Zoom, but not reliable with MS Teams.

I discovered that it was Teams 1.4 that was failing to use my camera.
I uninstalled 1.4 and installed 1.3 and everything worked fine again.
Then some time later, teams updates itself to 1.4 (and there doesn't seem to be any way of disabling this), and the camera stops working again.
So I uninstall 1.4 and install 1.3 and it's good for maybe a week before I have to go through the process over again.
The camera drivers on my PC are Microsoft's own USB Camera drivers as the manufacturer doesn't provide any of their own.- Dodge205Copper Contributor
I discovered that you CAN bypass the update process. The shortcut to Teams actually runs
Update.exe -processStart "Teams.exe"
Create a new shortcut to Teams.exe instead use that. Then the update process never happens.
By doing this I'm stuck on the old Teams 1.3, and I'm sure they'll withdraw support for it eventually, but it works for the time being.

I have the same problem in a PC but with an external usb webcam.
Below it's a temporary solution, but it's the only solution that worked for me.

I have the same issue.
MacBook FaceTime HD Cam is working in every App, except Teams. Running on Bootcamp Win10.
It is weird because the green light turns on and it looks like it is working, but it stays black.
Sometims it even "gives up" telling me, Video "stopped working".
Strangely on top: When using "Snap Cam" without filters (likewise a proxy for the cam) it is working fine!
So it is definitively Teams / Win10 causing the problem.
Ah: And it stopped working only a few days ago. On Monday this week it was working.

Microsoft
rolandoldenburg wallybh I have the same issue and set up as you (bootcamp running windows 10).
I've leaned that the camera issue only happens when I join a Google Meet or Zoom call prior to joining a Teams call. For whatever reason, using Google Meet/Zoom prior to teams seems to cause the issue for me. I have been able to temporarily fix the issue by booting back into Mac, joining either a fake meet call or Teams call (I do both just to be safe), hang up, then booting back into windows. Upon logging into Teams, the camera seems to work again fine. I can then reproduce the issue each time by joining a Meet call, hanging up, then joining a Teams call, which starts the process all over again... I haven't been able to find any other fixes or luck with support.

jofranst THANKS for that tip!!!! It works!
When rebooting into Mac OS, starting a Teams-call, then reboot into Windows everything is fine again!
And interestingly on top of that: I recognized that in the tool "ManyCam Virtual Webcam" it allows to de-/activate "Hardware acceleration". And that does seem to be the relevant thing here.
When Windows/Teams is screwed up ManyCam only works with deactivated(!) HW Acceleration. So it must be related to OpenGL/Direct3D and/or GPU-Usage somehow.

A similar thing has happened to me.
My camera was working perfectly in all apps. Now it isn't even recognised by Teams Desktop or Skype.
It works in Camera and it works in the online Teams.
I've tried all the suggestions I can find; driver updates, security settings, uninstall and reload and closing all other apps that might use it. All I get under Camera in the device settings in Teams is "None".
This appears to coincide with an update I had in early December 2020.
It's ridiculous that the 2 apps that most need access to a camera can't find it, yet the most pointless app ever (Camera) is quite ok with it.- DrDaveMGPCopper Contributor
PhilAtCafetorium This was in the end never about the camera not working but an issue with Teams/Skype. When I posted this Post, Teams had just got an update that screwed the ability to use the camera, no matter which camera I tried. A week later Teams released an update and it fixed the issue. So it looks like Teams and done it again with an update. I would if you just wait for the next update as I doubt if you will find a fix.
If you have the option to use another device then I would just move to that device for meetings and use Teams on the Laptop/Desktop for chatting/main work. You can use multiple devices at the same time in Teams, I find that very useful.
All I can help with on this issue.

DrDaveMGP how long ago, or when did you receive an update that seemed to repair the issue? I'm fighting a set of Teams Room systems, with some fairly robust equipment. Getting Microsoft to play nice has been the worst part of this experience, by far. My experience has basically been what the other users have reported...cameras work on basically every other application, *except* Teams. I'm concerned because I thought I was on the latest build, issued 12/8. Thoughts?

I am having the same issue... On desktop app camera doesn't work. Furthermore, when I use Teams my camera is disabled for all other programs. In order to restore it, I have to update my camera drive. Hence, it not only does not work, but it actually messes up my camera drive.

yourHighness I verified the fix, as well. The 19603 does fix the issue.

This is a reported issue with 19592:
"[ADDED 4/2] We’re working on a fix for an issue causing webcams to not function correctly when attempting to make a video call in Microsoft Teams. The webcam should be unaffected when using Microsoft Teams via the browser."

sirtwist I'm using Web version, same problem. Camera is fine, works on EVERYTHING else, but not Teams. This is atrocious. Started when Windows FORCED an update despite me having disabled updates EVERYWHERE possible on my computer. I require this for work, and am about to launch another class-action suit against these assholes.

I experience the same problem at my pc. Its a Lenovo Legion laptop.
I can add the my failure description that on my own Windows profile it works in the MS Teams app.
But when my daughter (11 years old) use her profile and the same MS Teams app, then it does not work. We succeeded do uninstall the camera driver and then it works. But now it does not work again. My daughter has a Microsoft account and use that to log in to this pc. And she then use her school Microsoft account to log in to MS Teams. I don't know if that is a problem.

I have this problem as well. The camera itself works with the Camera app. Teams doesn't appear to attempt to initialize the camera, as its light doesn't turn on but Teams just shows a black preview. This is with the built-in camera, but It behaves the exact same way with an external (USB) camera.

I tried the same experiment with my on-board camera and a USB camera. I found that the cameras worked with all other apps, including camera and Skype, but didn't work the Teams app.
The Teams web-site did allow me to use video. Also, I switched to another computer, and the same USB camera worked. This is very odd. One small note: I am using an Insider Preview on the machine that the app is showing the "black preview".
- DrDaveMGPCopper Contributor
I too I'm using Insider preview Build 19592 and I think that's where it started but I cannot go back a build. I looked at my other laptop that is on build 19587 and the camera is working fine in Teams /testcall. Could draw a conclusion that it is an insider preview build issue but need others in this group to confirm if they are using IPB 19592.
- alitaqviIron ContributorHi - Can you try to install Life Cam software and then use the same with Teams.
- DavidM2357Copper Contributor
IDrDaveMGP I have the exact same problem with my HP Spectre x360. The camera works everywhere but in the Teams application.
