"Is it safe to deactivate processor performance boost mode?"
After noticing that my laptop was running at dangerously high temperatures, I took steps to address the issue by undervolting my CPU by about 60. In my search for additional solutions, I came across a helpful video that provided some effective strategies. However, I am now concerned about the safety of disabling certain features, particularly regarding performance trade-offs. I am prepared to experiment with settings, but I want to ensure that I am not risking any significant damage. One specific concern I have is whether disabling the overclock protection in my BIOS will have any negative repercussions on the changes I have made. Any insights or advice on these matters would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help. ❤️GavinZhangJan 19, 2026Copper Contributor157Views0likes1CommentHow to Remove Desktop from the Navigation Pane

I recently acquired two brand new models of the Surface Laptop 7 - one boasting a 13.8" screen along with a powerful processor and 16GB of RAM, while the other features a larger 15" screen, an elite processor, and a whopping 64GB of RAM. After using both devices for a few weeks, I've noticed a concerning trend in the Reliability History section, indicating numerous critical errors related to the Battery Service abruptly stopping its operations. Here are some details about the error: It appears that these errors began surfacing after a few weeks of regular usage on both machines. Over the last week, the 15" model displayed this error almost consistently, with only one day being an exception. Some days witnessed a handful of instances, while on others, the error occurred numerous times. Despite reaching out to MS Support for assistance, there seems to be no definitive solution provided, leaving me with the options of accepting the situation or considering a return. Given that these issues are replicating across two separate devices, my suspicion is leaning towards a software-related concern, possibly tied to the drivers or firmware. Upgrading to a new machine could potentially yield the same problematic outcome. Thankfully, apart from the error notifications, I have not encountered any noticeable performance issues. However, there was one instance on the 15" model where the charging light remained illuminated without actually charging, yet a simple restart seemed to resolve the issue. Notably, these errors persisted both before and after the restart mentioned. All drivers are current, and all Windows applications have been updated accordingly. A system file check (SFC /scannow) didn't report any issues. If you have any insights or suggestions to address this persistent Battery Service error, they would be greatly appreciated. After clicking the "Activate" option in the Windows 11 Home Edition system settings, the interface freezes immediately and becomes unresponsive. Attempting to use KMS activation tools also causes the tools to freeze or hang, preventing any activation process from completing. Solutions are sought to forcibly bypass the frozen state or repair the activation functionality.WrentdrJan 19, 2026Iron Contributor8Views0likes0CommentsDoes the "End of Service" Notification in Windows 11 22H2 Pro Require an Update?
The current system is Windows 11 22H2 Pro. I have received an "End of Service" notification (e.g., "This version of Windows is nearing its end of support date"). Clarification is needed: 1. Is it necessary to update immediately to a newer version (e.g., 23H2/24H2)? 2. If I decide not to update, can the system continue to operate normally long-term? If feasible, what specific security or functionality risks will I face?
MiloShepherdJan 19, 2026Iron Contributor56Views1like7CommentsMoving the notification area to the right side of the screen: A step-by-step guide

I have a good understanding of operating systems, specifically Windows, whereas my wife is less familiar with it. Whenever she encounters any issues, I play the role of her knowledgeable companion. Mockingly, I tell her that she will be in trouble when I'm not around, and she acknowledges this. Hence, I am currently searching for a 24/7 service that my wife can rely on to address her computer problems remotely. I have been looking into HP's "Smart Friend" program but there are mixed opinions about their customer service quality. Does anyone have any insights on this?JamesonHarrisJan 19, 2026Copper Contributor119Views0likes1Comment
