Giving Windows Laptop to Someone Else
Might be a dumb question, but I am about to hand over one of my old Windows Insider Program laptops, to someone.......they need it to do an online course.....what's the best way to proceed ? completely wipe it, or just get them to set up their own account on it ?.......any thoughts welcomed..........Windows PC start menu will not diisplay
It has been this way several days now. If I left click on the Start menu icon (lower left corner of screen) nothing happens! To shut down the PC, I must right click on the icon and select "Shut down and sign out". I have no access to the start menu programs. The only ones I can get to are on the Task Bar. I rely heavily on the mouse to run programs due to some neurological issues that make actually typing something onerous.
Insider Preview Update Error and Unenrollment
For the past 3 days, I have have been informed that i have an Insider Preview Update to install. Each time it says, can't complete installation due to some files missing. Not to worry the message says, as it will try again at another time to download what I assume is those missing files. This is the 4th day, and same issues. I contacted Live chat support, and that agent couldn't help resolve the issues, and send me over here. I had to do a clean re-install, because an insider preview update screwed up my graphic so bad, I could not see anything on the screen, much less to log on. After the clean re-install, the system boot me back into the Insider Program, and so I tried un-enrolling, to no avail. I enrolled in this preview build version because I wanted to assist Microsoft with whatever it is that they were trying to improve with the user experience, but I regret it. I am trapped, with no way out of this problem. Anyone out there that can assist me escape this madness?
KB5089573 forced install + Lenovo network stack degradation (HTTPS latency, build 26200.8524)
KB5089573 installed automatically on a Lenovo system despite updates being paused and no preview updates enabled. After installation, the system jumped to build 26200.8524 and the network stack degraded severely. Heavy HTTPS sites (LinkedIn, Google Finance, YouTube) take 20–60 seconds to load across all browsers. Speedtest is normal, other devices on the same network are unaffected, and both Edge and Chrome show identical latency. DISM shows no package for KB5089573 and the update cannot be uninstalled. Looking for correlation data from other Lenovo users.
preview builds prevents virus and threat protections to start
I have win11Pro, upgraded from 10 home. I am an insider and have switched to a canary channel. I never switched it, but now I only get the preview release builds. I am trying to download some trial software for my work and cannot since it "fails virus scanning." When i checked on the virus and threat protections, i found that it was stopped. I tried to restart it. It would not. I thought, "Maybe I need to update my device," so I did. Restarted. I then went back to the virus and threat protections and attempted to restart them, but it failed again. I checked my startup applications and services, and of course, virus and threat detection is supposed to start on booting. I don't know how to fix this bug, and i need to download a trial software for work, but I need it to pass virus scanning as well. I cannot achieve this if the service has stopped and cannot be restarted. What do I do?A USB speaker in preview mode is suddenly recognized as a Steam Streaming device
I'm not sure if this is related to the Windows Insider update, but the issue appeared today after the update last night. My USB speakers suddenly aren't being recognized properly and are showing up as “Steam Streaming Speakers/Microphone” in the sound settings. I’ve tried the following solutions, but none worked: Disabling the speakers in Settings Unplugging and replugging the speakers—the lights and beep sound work, but there’s no audio Checking the BIOS to ensure the audio controller is enabled Disabling/uninstalling the driver in Device Manager and then restarting The issue remains unresolved. I suspect it might be caused by an anomaly from a Steam or Windows update. Has anyone else encountered the same problem?The Windows Insider settings screen says the account has already been registered and linked.
When I go to the Windows Insider Program tab in Windows Settings, a yellow warning icon appears at the top: “Your device is set to receive Insider Preview builds. To change your Insider tier, make sure your Microsoft account is enrolled in the Insider Program and linked on this page.” The problem is that I’m already enrolled in the Insider Program, I’m currently running that version, and my account is linked in Settings. Is this a bug in the current version?
