Using Gadget Pack on Windows computer
Hello to all. I have used "Gadget Pack" since back in the days of Windows 7. I had it installed on Windows 10 successfully and when I updated to Windows 11 I was able to reinstall it, no problems whatsoever. About two weeks ago I noticed that the gadgets stopped automatically starting with Windows. To get the gadgets to work I would have to right click on the desktop, click "gadgets" and they gadgets (and the gadget pick window) would start. I wondered if it was a Windows update which removed the autostart so I did a system restore to the a time when I knew the gadgets did start automatically. Not much difference so I uninstalled the pack (using the official uninstaller) and reinstalled it. Same problem. It's frustrating the heck out of me! I have tried contacting the developer and I cannot find a forum dedicated to the GadgetPack program (previously called "8GadgetPack."). Do any of you wizards know a way of fixing this? I have tried putting the "sidebar.exe" into the startup folder...nope, no luck. I have enabled autostart in Task Manager...no luck. Any ideas?ElliottHayesSep 19, 2025Iron Contributor21Views0likes0CommentsMicrosoft finally getting rid of Blue Screen of Death
Microsoft is making a major change to one of Windows' most recognizable (and notorious) features. The infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) – long a symbol of system failure and frustration for Windows users – is officially being phased out in the coming months.CameronFordSep 19, 2025Iron Contributor17Views0likes0CommentsBest pdf document summarizer to generate accurate summary from PDF
I am working with an extremely long PDF document that is over 1500 pages. I need to extract the key points, main ideas, and a general summary from it. I am looking for the most effective way to do this using Microsoft tools, or perhaps through a feature in Edge or Word that I might have missed. Could someone from the community or Microsoft support please suggest the best pdf document summarizer for large PDF files? I am particularly interested in learning about any built-in functionalities or official Microsoft solutions that can manage a file of this size, as many online tools have strict page limits. Thank you!HupixdelSep 19, 2025Iron Contributor69Views1like7CommentsVIDEO DXGKRNL FATAL ERROR After a Recent Feature Update
Hello, I have been getting the VIDEO DXGKRNL FATAL ERROR after the feature update Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.26220.5770 (ge_release_upr). I noticed that this error is only happening when my laptop is connected to an external monitor and is not outputting any audio. For now, using an external monitor requires me to disconnect my laptop from the monitor first and keep it playing music before I reconnect it. I tried upgrading and reinstalling the graphics driver and installing a driver for my monitor; none of them solved this issue. My graphics card is NVIDIA Quadro P10000, and the driver version is 32.0.15.8115. Glad to provide more info if anyone has a clue about this issue. Thanks!kz00Sep 18, 2025Copper Contributor11Views0likes0CommentsWhere to obtain Windows Insider Program in 2024/25?
I am putting together a retro PC from the XP era and haven't used XP in at least 10 years. I have since tossed all my OS discs, but also know XP is insecure to use now. I heard you can install an unofficial SP4 to get it much safer though. Anyway, where is a legit/"safe" place to get an XP installer or ISO that is "secure" that isn't going to be full of malware? I am just trying to run old benchmarks and a handful of games, but would like to be online. Any advice from those running XP on retro PCs welcome, this is my first one!OregonPineSep 18, 2025Iron Contributor9Views0likes0CommentsIn windows, do you experience slowness when you switch from one user to another?
I'm on Windows pc users are usually logged in my main machine. The two main users tend to leave so many programs open even when not in use. For example, one user (let's call him X) will have like 30 firefox windows open + 5 edge browser windows + few word documents + few folders, acrobat reader, image viewer. Other users will have the same behavior but little less. RAM is at 50% most of the time. When I switch from any other user to user X, it will take sometime before the desktop is usable as if you are booting the computer. I have 64 GB of RAM, and you can see other specs in my sig. Is this normal behavior and my rig is just showing its old age? I mean why would it take time if things are already loaded into RAM?IowaCornfieldSep 18, 2025Iron Contributor38Views0likes1CommentArea at top of folder with 'Copy' 'Cut' 'Paste' - Change it back to how it used to look?
Bear with me as I don't know the correct terminology to explain my problem. I have open-shell 4.4.196 installed. I recently updated to 24H2 from 23H2 and I don't like the look of the folder when I've connected an external harddrive. Is it possible to get it back to how it used to look? I've attached an image of what it now looks like which I don't like.ZiaoikSep 18, 2025Iron Contributor6Views0likes0Comments
