Official Complaint: Broken Mandatory Update & Incompetent Tech Support

Hello Microsoft Community,

I am writing to express my deep frustration with the latest mandatory Windows updates and the shocking incompetence of the tech support agent who handled my case.

The update broke my system entirely—breaking the Start Menu, Settings, and messing up my screen reader (NVDA). When I reached out to tech support, the experience was a disaster:

1. The agent suggested creating a "Restore Point" while the system GUI was already completely corrupted and broken!

2. Worse, the agent didn't even know how to type a basic command in CMD, typing "Onlime" with an "M" instead of "Online" with an "N"!

As a software developer, I had to fix Microsoft's mess myself using the "sfc /scannow" command, which successfully repaired the corrupt files after your support staff failed. Where are Satya Nadella's promises about accessibility when mandatory updates break our systems and support agents can't even spell basic CLI commands?

Microsoft needs to respect its users and properly train its technical support staff. I have attached the screenshot as clear evidence of this incompetence.

opted out of WIP, but still, I am stuck

After the recent Windows Insider program update, we can now leave the WIP, even if we were previously on the developer build, without doing a clean reinstall. I did not have time and energy to do a complete clean reinstall of Windows to go back from developer build to the normal Windows version as I I got my PC recently and I did not know about these thing so I accidentally signed up in WIP Without doing research that we cannot go back from the developer build without doing a clean reinstall but thankfully, they gave the option recently.

I went to the Windows Update section> Windows Insider Programs section in the Updates section and clicked on the rollout button, and there was a link to leave the insider program, which I also did, and on that website, now it says that I am no longer a WIP user. After I also got an update, which was not a preview build like I was getting before, but Windows 11, version 25H2, so I installed it, and I have read it was in place to upgrade an IPU, and all my data should be migrated safely. Although I did not check everything, from what I have used PC after Opting out and updating, mostly everything is in place as it was.

The problem is that now when I go to the update section. Then, in the Windows Insider program section, I see a reinstall button where it says that it will go back to the preview build if I click on it, but if we are outside of the Insider build like I was before, when I even tried signing up for this it did not show us restart button when i was on the normal Windows 11 when I bought the pc. The normal Windows update after opting out should not show a restart button in the Windows Insider Program settings.

Also, when I try to check for an update, it still shows me the Preview build I was getting before, which shouldn't happen.

Why am I not getting a normal update, and instead, the preview build, AND in the Windows Insider section (Windows Update menu), I am still seeing that it says to restart to get back to the Windows Insider program, which should not be supposed to happen.

HELP, THIS IS FRUSTRATING.

C Drive keeps filling up and I can't figure out why

The C Drive on my laptop is a total 193 GB that I was able to keep at around 45-50 or so GB free until last year when the space started to fill up by itself. It now normally is around 28-32 gb free usually although briefly it was back up to 40 gb free after a Windows update, then came back down to to 28 gb after some weeks. Restarting the computer usually created some free space again, I'm not sure why.

Its at its lowest now at 20-22 gb free and its starting to concern me. Anything I download or install I put in the D drive, I did a quick check in any case to see if I missed anything there that's taking up too much, but there isn't. I tried to do disk clean up with administrator permission but that at most only detected around 300 mb of unnecessary files to clean up.

I tried Wiztree on some people's recommendations to see what was taking space. I'm not good at reading these sorts of things, so the most I can tell is that:
Windows folder takes up the most space at 55.4 %

Users folder is a total 40.7 GB. The AppData folder is taking up the majority of that at 27.8 (Local - 17.9 gb, Roaming - 8.9 gb, Local Low - 938.7 mb). Local has the Google folder at 11.3 GB so I assume that's an issue here? Roaming has the user date related to an art program I use at 6.4 gb.

Program files takes up 19.9 GB with WindowsApps at 6.3 gb and Steam folder at 4.9 GB, and 5 other folders taking up about 1 GB each. I figure Steam is an issue here but I'd have to check what to do with it so that it doesn't mess up any other data, I otherwise put steam game files in the D folder.

These are the major ones taking up space, should I just go through them individually and figure out what to do delete or should I do something else, or did I miss something else? Should I try some other program than Wiztree to help me out with this. I'm hesitant to touch anything in the case of messing up and deleting something important.

Sorry for the long post, appreciate any advice. And I hope I posted the correct flair.

Ok so I was facing this issue while downloading some update.
Steps I tried to fix:
       1. Restart Related Services
       2. DISM fix
       3. Registry Checkup
       4. Windows Update Catalog
       5. Update Cache Cleanup
       6. Finally, In-place Upgrade to Windows Insider Release Preview 25H2 Build: 26200.8328

After In-place Update I got "2026-05 Preview Update (KB5089573) (26200.8524)" this update,
I tried to install this but again same error code 0x80070003.

What should I do now?? (I'm enrolled in insider program)
It's annoying, repeats the same download-install-fail loop drains all my net.

For the past 3 days, I have have been informed that i have an Insider Preview Update to install. Each time it says, can't complete installation due to some files missing. Not to worry the message says, as it will try again at another time to download what I assume is those missing files. This is the 4th day, and same issues. I contacted Live chat support, and that agent couldn't help resolve the issues, and send me over here. I had to do a clean re-install, because an insider preview update screwed up my graphic so bad, I could not see anything on the screen, much less to log on. After the clean re-install, the system boot me back into the Insider Program, and so I tried un-enrolling, to no avail. I enrolled in this preview build version because I wanted to assist Microsoft with whatever it is that they were trying to improve with the user experience, but I regret it. I am trapped, with no way out of this problem. Anyone out there that can assist me escape this madness?

KB5089573 installed automatically on a Lenovo system despite updates being paused and no preview updates enabled. After installation, the system jumped to build 26200.8524 and the network stack degraded severely. Heavy HTTPS sites (LinkedIn, Google Finance, YouTube) take 20–60 seconds to load across all browsers. Speedtest is normal, other devices on the same network are unaffected, and both Edge and Chrome show identical latency. DISM shows no package for KB5089573 and the update cannot be uninstalled.

I have win11Pro, upgraded from 10 home. I am an insider and have switched to a canary channel. I never switched it, but now I only get the preview release builds.

I am trying to download some trial software for my work and cannot since it "fails virus scanning." When i checked on the virus and threat protections, i found that it was stopped. I tried to restart it. It would not.

I thought, "Maybe I need to update my device," so I did. Restarted. I then went back to the virus and threat protections and attempted to restart them, but it failed again. I checked my startup applications and services, and of course, virus and threat detection is supposed to start on booting.

I don't know how to fix this bug, and i need to download a trial software for work, but I need it to pass virus scanning as well. I cannot achieve this if the service has stopped and cannot be restarted.

What do I do?

A USB speaker in preview mode is suddenly recognized as a Steam Streaming device

I'm not sure if this is related to the Windows Insider update, but the issue appeared today after the update last night. My USB speakers suddenly aren't being recognized properly and are showing up as “Steam Streaming Speakers/Microphone” in the sound settings.

I’ve tried the following solutions, but none worked:

Disabling the speakers in Settings

Unplugging and replugging the speakers—the lights and beep sound work, but there’s no audio

Checking the BIOS to ensure the audio controller is enabled

Disabling/uninstalling the driver in Device Manager and then restarting

The issue remains unresolved. I suspect it might be caused by an anomaly from a Steam or Windows update. Has anyone else encountered the same problem?

The Windows Insider settings screen says the account has already been registered and linked.

When I go to the Windows Insider Program tab in Windows Settings, a yellow warning icon appears at the top: “Your device is set to receive Insider Preview builds. To change your Insider tier, make sure your Microsoft account is enrolled in the Insider Program and linked on this page.”

The problem is that I’m already enrolled in the Insider Program, I’m currently running that version, and my account is linked in Settings. Is this a bug in the current version?
