Personal Microsoft Account stuck to old Teams‑Free Azure AD tenant - identity corruption
I have a personal Microsoft Account that was automatically linked to a Teams‑Free Azure AD tenant years ago. The tenant still appears in the Azure portal, but it is inaccessible and cannot be deleted. I cannot leave the tenant, and the admin account for the tenant no longer exists.
Because of this, my personal Microsoft Account now has a corrupted work/school identity object attached to it. The symptoms include:
Office.com rejects login and says I must use a work/school account
OneDrive.com “Recent” fails to load (“Unknown render failure”)
Azure portal shows the old Teams‑Free tenant but any action triggers errors
I cannot leave or delete the tenant
I cannot remove the directory object from my MSA
I have opened 4 support requests, each of which turn into callback from supervisor after I repeatedly confirm I am not a commercial customer and I do not have a commercial account. All 4 times the supervisor says they are transfers me to the commercial team, but I just get transferred to a message saying, "We are closed", call back during business hours. Most recently this happened at 1:30 PM Central Time on a Monday. It's unlikely Microsoft is closed in the middle of the day.
This is not a commercial tenant and not a business account. It is a personal Microsoft Account with a corrupted identity object caused by the old Teams‑Free provisioning.
I need escalation to the Microsoft Account Identity Team, who can remove the corrupted directory object from my personal account. Has anyone seen this before or had it resolved?

Take screenshots of error messages and the tenant details in the Azure portal.

Thanks for replying. Below are several screenshots from today (9/1/26). I went to Azure Entra Admin Center and after logging in with my personal outlook.com Microsoft Account these are the Errors/Issues.
#1 - Azure Entra Admin Center - Interaction Required
Before Entra Admin Center page fully loads, a pop-up loads which can be cleared by clicking Ignore. This happens 5 or so times then stops. This repeats when clicking anything on any page within Entra Admin Center.
#2 - Azure Entra Admin Center - Main Page
Azure Entra Admin Center main page eventually partially loads. The areas with grey boxes remain with animation like the information is refreshing but it never actually loads... only a few details (shown in screenshot).
#3 - Azure Entra Admin Center - Notification - Experiencing authentication issues
In upper right corner next to account details there is always new notification about authentication issues.
#4 - Azure Entra Admin Center - Overview Page
From left navigation if I select Overview the cycle of pop-up errors happens again and after clearing with Ignore some details display in the Overview.
#5 - Azure Entra Admin Center - Manage Tenants
From selecting Manage Tenants Menu near top of page it shows 0 Tenants.
Your personal Microsoft account and Microsoft Entra identity are separate objects, despite using the same email address. Consumer sign-in can work while Office, OneDrive, or Azure selects a work/school context. Open a private window and open My Account for that tenant using its tenant ID; select Organizations, then Leave. If it is a guest association and self-service leaving is allowed, this removes the relationship. If Leave is absent or fails, Microsoft documents no client-side method to delete that object. Deleting the tenant requires a Global Administrator and deletion checks to pass. Because no administrator remains, request a Microsoft Entra tenant-lockout case with ownership verification, not a consumer OneDrive repair. Include the tenant ID, tenant domain, sign-in name, error correlation IDs with UTC times, and all four case numbers. Microsoft’s public guidance does not expose a named “Microsoft Account Identity Team” route, so request Entra ownership recovery and routing confirmation.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the effort.
Unfortunately, the issue is the normal process does not work. This is a Microsoft created Tenant that was created for the Free Microsoft Teams offering in 2020. Microsoft has since shut down the environment. While I can get to My Account page, it pops up repeated security/certificate errors. Once clearing the 5-10 pop ups I can see read-only details about the tenant but clicking anything starts the pop loop of security errors.
This is a corruption that is not exactly unique. There is a fair amount of people with same/similar issues yet very few of those I found across forums have been able to get Microsoft to resolve the issue. I spent hours on multiple days using AI to try and a better communicate to Microsoft support. It usually results in escalation then suggestion I contact Azure support. Contacting Azure support is non-starter as they won't even entertain idea of a consumer/retail outlook.com account.
So this is an untenable situation as a customer with no options to request Microsoft support properly for resolution. Based on my own knowledge/experience over 25+ years in enterprise IT across mostly Microsoft shops and the handful of people who successfully were able to get the corrupted reference to the Free Teams tenant removed from their consumer/retail personal Microsoft account -- this requires action by internal Microsoft identity management team that is not directly customer facing and can not be directly contacted by external customers.
