The issue I'm having is with Windows 11 networking and accessing a computer on the LAN using it's UNC name, which in my case is my primary computer running Windows 10 (PROMETHEUS) and my secondary computer (SORCERESS) running Windows 11. Both computers sign in at startup using the same Microsoft Account. The trouble I'm having is if I open Explorer in Windows 11 using <WINDOWS>+<E> (or via a desktop or taskbar shortcut) and then directly enter "\\prometheus" into the address bar, it will sometimes allow access to the computer on the network, and other times it will ask for login credentials and fail: If on the rare occasion that the connection is made using the UNC path, and I can map a network drive, the network drive might not automatically reconnect at startup because of the same error. But if I enter the IP Address for PROMETHEUS as "\\192.168.1.3", then I can browse the network without problems and correctly maps network drives: One might think this is a configuration issue on the Windows 10 machine regarding file sharing. I do not believe so, as other devices on the network (mixed between Windows 10 and Android) can access the PROMETHEUS computer without issues using either the UNC Name "\\prometheus" or the IP address "\\192.168.1.3". This problem about credentials appears only when I'm trying to access PROMETHEUS from SORCERESS which is running Windows 11:68KViews0likes9CommentsTPM désactivé dans windows 11 24H2

Ok, this has been working, although a bit of a hit-n-miss sometimes for the screens we have in the office, Philips Brilliance 499P, which have Windows Hello compatible cameras. Most often if I boot my laptop at work and start it with the lid closed the external camera on the 499P will log me in. However, if I at some point during the day open the lid on the laptop (Dell XPS 17, also with Windows Hello camera), it stops working on the external screen and only the laptop camera will log me in (which is annoying as I have the laptop on a shelf underneath the table). I recently got a Logitech BRIO 4K with Windows Hello for my home office but that is even harder to get working with Windows Hello. The camera works fine, and if I chose to "improve my face recognition" Windows happily is using the Logitech BRIO cam and not the Laptop one. If I boot my laptop at home with the lid closed the Logitech BRIO logs me in the first time, but if I lock my computer, or it goes to sleep over lunch, the Logitech BRIO isn't working anymore (Windows Hello says it can't find the device) but logging in with password and checking the device manager the camera is there and working. Also, opening the lid of the laptop instead of giving the password also logs me in, so clearly Windows has chosen to use the laptop cam and disabled the external one (even though the lid has been closed all the time). I found a post to set the Registry Key "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\LidNotifyReliable" to 0 (zero) and that seems to help getting the external camera enabled for Hello again, but again, just once... Locking the computer and trying Hello again, and it won't work... I've also seen a number of posts saying to "set a default camera" in devices and printers but that option hasn't been there since Windows 8 I think so that is not a helpful answer... Let me try and summarize my issue real short: - Windows Hello works every time when I am using the laptop camera only - Hooking up the Philips 499P screen camera or Logitech BRIO 4k (both over USB-C/Thunderbolt) it most often works to use any of those cameras once after being hooked up after closing my lid on the laptop. - After successfully using the external camera once, and then try to use it again it normally fails with a message it couldn't use the camera and I should use another method of signing in. - If I open the laptop lid after it has failed the laptop camera works and logs me in. So, it's like Windows Hello is losing the "connection" to the external camera but it can still find and use the laptop camera. Windows Version and Edition? Version 21H2 (22000.376) Windows 11 Business I had thought that since Windows 11 Hello would support multiple cameras... 😞27KViews4likes14CommentsWhy do I have to have Bluetooth turned on for file sharing over network?
In setting up file sharing between two of my PCs, which was not without drama, believe me, the OS told me that I have to have Bluetooth enabled for this to work. I am sharing over the LAN, why do I need Bluetooth enabled? I have Bluetooth and WIFI on my motherboard and both are turned off because I don't want the extra radiation. Since the PC sits on my desk, I especially don't want it in my eyes due to the risk of cataracts. I just don't get why Bluetooth has to be enabled in this case. It's still turned off in BIOS, so what good does it do?10Views0likes0CommentsBitlocker Issues
Hi Everyone One of our customers at our shop laptop has died, they want us to try extract some data off . However it is bitlocked, I had logged onto the their Microsoft account and went to devices which it does see the the Dell laptop on there. But upon clicking on the laptop and going to recovery keys it doesn't show anything. Was wondering if anyone had ideas on what could be done if anything, but if I need to do anything on the old machine I wont be able to as the machine doesn't turn on. But I do know that the SSD works as I have put that into another machine and it asks for the bitlock key as to why I am here.28Views0likes0CommentsUpdated PowerShell ISE (Terminal ISE) in Windows 11
As a Help Desk technician in a large organization, I can't express how lifesaving PowerShell automation scripts are for me. Due to security policies, we're not allowed to use Python, VS Code, or something fancy. Even built-in systemwide Copilot gets blocked wherever it rears its head. So, we're heavily reliant on native PowerShell and the ISE, which, let's be honest, isn't as polished as the new Windows Terminal. Wouldn't it be fantastic to have a built-in ISE that's perhaps one that borrows from the VS Code framework and UI/UX but exclusively for PowerShell? Perhaps it could have built-in plugins preferences for signing in with a corporate account for Git services (GitLabs / GH Enterprise), or AI Copilots, and have an overall improved code completion, suggestions, syntax highlighting, type-inference, themes for us technician who solely depend on PowerShell to work effectively. Just don't present it to our employers as the built-in "VS Code" or "code editor"—they'll freak out. Heck even Notepad++ needs special permissions, they're not fans. And please allow Notepad to format and highlight JSON, and XML files but no more otherwise they'll pass a GPO to have it banned.61Views1like1CommentHow long will it take to restart the computer?
I'm experiencing uncertainty regarding the time it takes for my computer to restart, which has become a recurring issue I need assistance with. Despite trying various troubleshooting methods, I still find myself waiting longer than expected for the restart process, and I would appreciate insights or tips from the community on factors that might influence restart duration and potential solutions.Solved71Views0likes1CommentWindow 11 Keeps Asking For My PIN Even After I've Told It Not To
I had my computer set to 'Never ask for PIN' and it was doing just fine until I restarted it and it installed some updates. Now I am back to it asking for my PIN every time it wakes from sleep. I SO do not need this! I live alone and no one else is able to touch my computer. I am the administrator and only user for the computer. I have opened the netplwiz file, and unchecked the box that says a user must sign in, but the problem persists. Recently, I also gave Google access to my Microsoft files, and I am wondering if Google is responsible for the problem. I got a popup today saying Google was asking for my PIN. This was not when I was signing into the computer after waking it up, though, but a different situation. Please help - have tried everything I can think of!4.5KViews0likes8Comments
