Template is not saving properly?
Hi there, There are templates created in MS Project which multiple project managers create projects from. However, recently when I opened the template, some tasks were inactivated and all the generic roles were replaced with real roles. However the next day when I opened the template, it was all back to normal. Even if a different project manager was working on the template and had yet to 'Save As', wouldn't the changes not be 'live' until the template was theoretically saved? Or is it working sort of like a cloud document, where the other project manager would've discarded their changes when closing the template, therefore letting the template return to its normal state? Hi there, I have a P3 license and am wanting to export the Project Center view and export to excel and potentially perform manual calculations to generate a KPI report for all the live projects. I am wondering if there are any fields available that I could pull through on one of the Project Center views that would display if milestones within a project have been met on a monthly basis. Do I have to create a custom field to pull through milestone data, if so, how would I do so? It doesn't have to be milestones either, it could be the difference between baseline estimation of where the project should be up to, vs where it currently is as per the schedule - but it does need to be in a format that can show updates on a monthly basis, rather than at the end of the project as a comparison of actual duration vs baseline duration. Hi there, I'm wondering what would be the best practice to complete the following: Project Managers are using existing templates to initiate Product Development projects, which follow a stage gate process Since MS Project implementation is new in the business, some projects are halfway done What would be the best way to change the project schedule so that the right dates are loaded into the project? Hi there, On the following link, it says the following "By default, changes to a task's percent complete value affect the actual work value. Similarly, changes to the actual work value affect the task's percent complete value. You can change this default and have percent complete and actual work independent of one another in the Project Options dialog box." I have done the following: In File > Options > Schedule > Calculation options for this project >[UNTICK]: Updating Task status updates resource status However, when I created a test project, assigned myself a task where Work = 6 hours; Duration = 1 day Published to PWA Using Tasks dashboard, change Actual Work = 2 hours, and used Mark Complete to mark the task as complete. However, this changed the Actual Work to be back to the initially scheduled Work value of 6 hours. Dale_HowardMVP As usual, thank you Dale - another question: in this project I have a task that's assigned to myself as a team member, originally with Work = 1h, Duration = 1d This is published to PWA, and then as a team member I can view my tasks page and update the amount of work. For example, I updated the task to take 80h of work. Since this is a project I have created, I approve my change via File > Info > View Task Updates > Approval Center But when these changes are applied to my project, the task now takes 80h with an 80 day duration Is there a way for this to change? Alternatively, is there a way for team members to change the duration for a task, as I can only seem to update the Work value from the Tasks page. UPDATE: It looks like the tasks somehow reverted to fixed units. Hi there, I have just bulk changed all tasks from an existing template from fixed units to fixed duration. The templates were already set up with work, duration and therefore (calculated) units. After bulk changing the tasks (highlight all tasks > Task Information > Advanced tab > Task type: Fixed Duration), when I try change the amount of work for a resource, the units don't change. Example below: Original: 2 hours of work required in 5 days, meaning units is 2/40 = 0.05 Change: changing from 2 hours of work in 5 days to 8 hours of work, so units should be 8/40 = 0.2 From the 'error message', I have selected: "Increase the hours resources work per day (units) but keep same duration" However, the units do not update in the Resource Names column, neither in the Task Information > Resources tab The only way I can get the units to update is by removing the resource and then re-assigning it - is there any other way for this to work? How can I make sure the units will be updated if the amount of work is changed in the project schedule? Hi there, I'm wondering if its possible to do the following: I have set up templates with Generic Resources, for example a Product Manager and a Category Manager etc. When these templates are used for real projects, depending on project complexity the same person may be responsible to the tasks assigned to both the Product and Category Manager. Hi there, I was wondering if there was any way to add the work field to the Task Details page? In the below screenshot, you can see that I have made a custom view that displays the work. From the My Work page, I can edit the work in the tasks assigned to me and submit that to my manager for approval (who also happens to be me in this example). I was wondering if I could instead add the Work field to the Assignment Details page, I can't seem to find it in the available fields when I Manage Views. This would mean I could make the Work column read only, meaning that the team members have to open the task into the details page to make any changes requiring approval. Additionally, am I only able to change the work on the My Assignments page since I have a Professional 3 license + PWA Admin permissions? Hi again, I'm trying to Build Team from Enterprise in a master project, but it is greyed out. I can build the team in each of the subprojects as the option is not greyed out there, but for ease I would like to be able to do this in the master project. In the screenshow below, it shows that I must be connected to Project Web App to use this command. In the next screenshot, if I hover over the Enterprise Resource Pool, it says the same thing but it's not greyed out. Hi there, When I try to insert a subproject in the Project Professional desktop app, it shows all enterprise projects ever created, even ones that have been deleted. I have to double click on "Show me the list of all projects" to get a list of the current live projects, which matches with the list of projects shown when on the PWA - Delete Enterprise Objects page (excluding templates) Is there any way to remove all the deleted projects from the "Enterprise Projects" list when trying to insert a subproject without having to click on "Show me the list of all projects?"Solved688Views0likes1CommentRe: Cross-project dependencies with subprojects in a master project not working
Dale_HowardMVP Thank you, I just have another query off the back of that - Another question - I have created project schedules for each stage of the NPD process - i.e., separate file for Scoping, separate file for Development, separate file for Production Execution I have been using the linked instructions to link these projects together into a master project file, and I have saved this temporary master project as a template file called "Local Manufacturing". We have many different project types so I've created another 'master template file' called Import FOB, which uses the same Scoping file as in "Local Manufacturing" but a different Development & Production Execution file. I have again linked these projects together and saved the temporary master project. I've tried to create another template master file, but now it's giving me errors. Do I need to resave all the project files as templates and then create the "master files"? Would what I'm doing actually work? Hi all, I've set up a rule to set up auto approvals for task updates as the projects managed are separate to the financials, so approval is not required. However, when users mark their tasks as complete or track work against it, they still have "submit", as shown in the process status. When I use "send status" to submit the task status updates for manager approval, it shows that it is awaiting approval, and then upon a page refresh it shows completed, which I think is correct.
