Migration SCCM from 2012 to 2019 and rename Server

Copper Contributor

Hi Guys,

We would like to update our current simple SCCM infrastructure like this :

1. Server 1 = Management Point + WSUS

OS : Windows 2012R2 --> Windows 2019 (or 2022).

2. Server 2 = Distribution Point

OS : Windows 2012R2 --> Windows 2019 (or 2022).

I know that we can make an classic OS upgrade but in our case we would like to rename these 2 servers with a new name.

So my question, is it better :

1. To create 2 new servers and restore all information from old infrastructure (Restore/Backup) ?

2. Rename current server (Possible or not ? ) after OS migration ?

3. Other possibilites ?

Thanks for your help
