This year, we offered students around the world the opportunity to submit their projects directly to Imagine Cup headquarters here in Redmond for consideration in our global online finals. This was in parallel with our dozens of local finals events worldwide. We wanted to ensure students in countries without local finals could compete and also give great local finals teams a second chance at becoming a worldwide finalist team and competing at our finals event in St. Petersburg this July.

Here is the complete list of global online finals winners. Thousands of students competed in these contests and we ended up with some really great projects! For each of these, just click the team name to read all about the project in the team's own words.

Games Competition

In this competition we had two teams from France and one team from Austria who made the cut as worldwide finalists: Seed by Team Banzai Lightning , Kameon by Team Seven Worlds , and Schein by Team Zeppelin Studio .

Innovation Competition

Brazil and Slovenia took the top slots in this one: Callvenient by Team Flying Ship and DORA by Team DORA .

World Citizenship Competition

China and the United States brought some great projects to this category: Water Facts by Team Combine and The Bear Claw System by Team Bears Unlimited .

Windows Azure Challenge

China, India, and Ukraine demonstrated their awesome Azure skills with these projects: Get & Put by Team LetssGo , Zoink It! by Team Y-Nots , and onQuests by Team nlife .

Windows Phone Challenge

Two teams from Poland and one from Singapore did some great things with Windows Phone: Cope by Team Front , Modern Drug Test by Team WeRule , and Speak Reminder by Team vSoft Studio .

Windows 8 Challenge

Germany, Italy, and Thailand stepped up to make full use of Microsoft's latest OS: Wordsapp by Team Wordsapp , Ulixes by Team Exception , and Vocable World by Team Clever Mind .

I'd like to congratulate all of our global online finals winners. They're joining all of our local finals winners in St. Petersburg this July for our Worldwide Finals.

And my profound thanks to all the other teams who entered. You may not have made it to Russia this year, but very few students have accomplished what you have. Your projects were inspiring, fun, moving, and daring. Never, ever give up.

All of you, regardless of whether you won or not, are now eligible to join a very exclusive group: the Imagine Cup Alumni. Please sign up now and stay in touch -- because while Russia is right around the corner, it won't be long before we're launching a whole new round of great worldwide contests. We have some great plans for this fall and much more to come.
