Planner plans owned by Teams

Iron Contributor

As we know, as of March 2024, each user/group can only create/own 200 Planner plans. now we have a power automate flow to manage the planner creation, where the user pass those 2 info:-

1) Planner title

2) Owner ID (which is a Microsoft Teams ID), as follow:-

so i realized that a user can create Teams and assign the planner plans to the Teams, so in this case a user can own more than 200 planner plans. in other words, the user own a Teams and the Teams own the Planner plans. the user can own 1000 Teams so can create 200,000 planner plans? am i understanding things correctly? or there are other limitations inside Teams and/or Planner i am unaware of?

Thanks

Hi @johnjohn-Peter,

while the user may own 1000 Teams, the limitation mentioned specifically pertains to Planner plans, and it states that the maximum plans owned by a group or user is 200.

This implies that, regardless of the number of Teams a user owns, they can create or own a maximum of 200 Planner plans.

In this context, owning Teams does not directly means owning Planner plans, and the limit for Planner plans is independent of the number of Teams a user owns.

@LeonPavesic yes i know, but if you create a planner within a Teams/Office 365 group context the planner plan will be owned by that group and not by that user.. and each group can own 200 planner plan, ,regardless if the group creator owns other planner plans or not.. did you get my question/point?

Hi @johnjohn-Peter,

I understand your point.

If a user creates a Planner plan within the context of a Teams/Office 365 group, the ownership is associated with that group, and each group can own up to 200 Planner plans, independent of the plans owned by the individual user who created the group.

So, to clarify, if a user is a member of multiple Teams or owns many Teams, the Planner plan limit is still 200 plans per group, not per individual user. Creating additional Teams doesn't provide a way to surpass the 200 Planner plans limit for a specific group. The limit is enforced at the group level, regardless of the user's ownership or membership across different groups.
