We're an Education customer with Office 365 Education subscriptions. Today we started seeing the Classroom app in the App Launcher with the text "Setting up..."
We do not have a Classroom subscription so I'm not certain why this would be showing up for us. Has anyone else seen this?

yes, we are seeing it.

Ok, I think I've confirmed that this is the School Data Sync service plan:
This service plan just appeared in our tenant today, and I removed it for myself and logged back in to Office 365. This appears to have removed the App Launcher tile.
I'm now rolling through all of our staff and students to remove this service plan. Good luck!

We now have 16 service plans in our Education skus! No point to that statement - just a rant ;)

Have a related post here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/School-Data-Sync/School-Data-Sync-Plan-1-service-plan-what-is...
As mentioned in the other thread, I've opened a case with Microsoft in the hopes that this is a mistake on their part so they can roll back the licensing. If not, then PowerShell to the rescue!

PowerShell indeed. I have a script on stand-by to turn off the latest unannounced service.

Following up from my earlier post, Microsoft support says they did this on purpose - it's here to stay. School Data Sync (Plan 1) is included in the Office 365 Education licensing SKUs as of today. (Thanks for the heads up, Microsoft!!)
There is little documentation from an admin perspective on this, and I personally have lots of questions. But, I'll include some reference links that I've read so far:

Further questions I now have:
