Update Intune App SDK, Wrapper, and iOS apps using MAM policies to support iOS/iPadOS 17
Published Sep 13 2023 01:05 PM 15.1K Views

To support Apple’s upcoming release of iOS/iPadOS 17, apps should be updated with the latest Intune App SDK and Intune App Wrapping Tool for iOS to ensure applications stay secure and run smoothly.

Conditional Access and identifying users SDK version

If your organization’s using the Conditional Access grant “Require App Protection Policy (APP)", you’ll need your users to update their iOS apps to the latest version prior to upgrading to iOS/iPadOS 17. This ensures applications continue to stay secure, maintain access to Conditional Access protected services, and are using Intune iOS SDK version 17.6.1 or higher to support the latest OS update. Intune will soon report any applications with SDK versions earlier than 17.6.1 on iOS/iPadOS 17 and later as non-compliant for Conditional Access.

To review the Intune App iOS SDK version currently in use by your users, in the Intune admin center, navigate to Apps > Monitor > App protection status, then review Platform version and iOS SDK version. Notify your users to update the identified apps using iOS SDK versions less than 17.6.1 before updating their iOS/iPadOS device to the latest OS to maintain access to your organization’s resources. If an app isn’t updated to the latest version prior to upgrading to iOS/iPadOS 17, it will fail the “Require app protection policy” Conditional Access check and will be unable to connect to services such as Microsoft 365.

iOS/iPadOS 17 support for Intune App SDK and Wrapping Tool

For applications using the Intune App SDK or Wrapper for iOS, the minimum version to support iOS/iPadOS 17 is version 17.6.1. Here are the public repositories:

Shortly after the release of iOS/iPadOS 17, all code changes will be released in the Apple XCode 15 branch (v 18.x), and the current branch for XCode 14 (v 17.x) will only include changes for hotfixes. Additionally, with the deprecation of Azure Active Directory Authentication Library (ADAL), support for ADAL will be removed from the Intune App SDK starting with version 18.x.

Staying up to date

Intune regularly releases updates to the Intune App SDK and the Intune App Wrapping Tool. It’s important that you regularly check for updates on GitHub and incorporate the latest version into your software development release cycle. This ensures that your apps support the latest app protection policy settings.
