Surface Laptop 7 ARM64 – KB5121003 breaks Teams and New Outlook
We are seeing a repeatable issue on a Microsoft Surface Laptop, 7th Edition (ARM64/Snapdragon) running Windows 11 Enterprise 25H2. After installing KB5121003, both Microsoft Teams (new) and New Outlook for Windows stop working. They either fail to launch or close immediately. Classic Outlook, Word, Excel, and other Win32 applications continue to work normally. This machine had recently been factory reset and was working properly for several days before KB5121003 was installed. During troubleshooting, I found the following: Microsoft.OutlookForWindows reported Status: DependencyIssue AppModel Runtime logged 0x80073CFC The Outlook failure specifically referenced GetPackageToken Windows reported an error while checking the application's machine-level package status New Outlook's package showed PackageStatus = 64 (0x40) Teams AppModel logs showed the application process/container being created successfully, but the process terminated almost immediately Teams also showed a previous package status of 0x40 before AppModel reset it to 0x0 As a test, I uninstalled KB5121003. Teams immediately started working again. This is especially concerning because we experienced an almost identical issue earlier this year after installing KB5094126 on the same Surface. At that time, Teams and New Outlook also stopped functioning, and removing the update restored them. During that incident, MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS also reported a DependencyIssue. Since the machine was factory reset between these incidents, this does not appear to be the result of an old or heavily modified Windows installation. The pattern we have now seen twice is: Surface is working normally Windows cumulative update installs New Teams and New Outlook stop launching AppX/MSIX package-state errors appear The cumulative update is removed The affected applications work again Has anyone else seen this behavior on Surface Laptop 7 / Snapdragon / ARM64 devices? I am particularly interested in whether anyone has seen: KB5121003 causing Teams or New Outlook failures 0x80073CFC GetPackageToken errors DependencyIssue on Microsoft.OutlookForWindows PackageStatus 0x40 Similar recurring AppX/MSIX issues after cumulative Windows updates At this point, I am concerned there may be a Windows 11 ARM64 servicing or AppModel/MSIX compatibility issue affecting these applications. I have also opened a Microsoft support case because repeatedly uninstalling cumulative security updates is obviously not a sustainable solution.12Views0likes0CommentsSurface Pro 11 Keyboard Typing Issue
Hi, I have a Surface Pro 11 with the detachable keyboard. The keyboard also has the pen holder. I am having an issue with typing three of the letters. When I type a 'd', I get 'sd', when I type 'm', I het 'nm', and when I type 'o', I get 'uo'. This happens in all applications being used. I have done the following: 1. Drivers and Windows up to date 2. Diagnostics run with no issues 3. Detached and reattached keyboard 4. Shutdown and restarted numerous times 5. Deleted keyboard drivers 6. Checked keyboard settings, the layout is on US Qwerty 7. Cleaned connections 8. Can of air to blow out any dust, nothing seen though Not sure what else to do. It's only those three letters. The touchpad and all other letters and functions is working correctly. It takes forever for it to fix itself. Specifications below. I've been trying to get a hold of Microsoft, but service or maintenance pages are way too complicated to navigate. I mean you really need hours of time to sit down and figure out how to make a claim on this thing. Anway, Surface Pro Flex Keyboard was delivered on August 19, 2024, it is out of its 1-year Microsoft manufacturer warranty by just about one year. That is a massive purchase price of $489.99 to have only last just out of the warranty time. The Surface Pro 6 keyboard that I gave to my father from my old device is still going strong; Microsoft, like everything else, are getting worse, never better. All the old stuff was 10x it's wieght in capability and use. I want the old stuff back. The new stuff is 20x the price, and just doens't last. I mean, no, I mean no one took better care of their keyboard, and used it as less as possible... I think it's a design flaw, it won't charge itself unless you hold it up on one side at a perfect angle. The only way to get power to it is to angle it and hold it up perfectly at a precise angle, and only on one side. I think the issue is a design fault, the area that flexes, maybe, wore out the internal wiring. THEN DON'T MAKE IT FLEX....Jesus. How hard is it to make a keybaord that barely gets used last longer than a year or two. I can't just be out $500 every other year. There's just gotta be a better company out there? Does anyone have any better reccomendations? Maybe Android? Or Samsung? This can't be it? It can't be. Who can afford that?8Views0likes0CommentsMicrophone issue on multiple Surface Pro Copilot+ devices
Afternoon, hoping someone can help with the below issue as we are not getting anywhere with it, the live chat hasnt been able to assist either. We have purchased two Surface Pro Copilot+ devices and both of them have the same issue with their microphones where it pick up speech very quietly but it will pick up other noises much louder, for example when testing on the sound recorded app when talking loudly and also tapping on the surface pro, my talking plays back extremely quiet but the tapping is loud and clear. We have installed all updates, ensured the microphone levels are high, disabled any microphone enhancements or effects but no luck. Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks133Views0likes2CommentsTrouble Activating Ultimate Performance Plan on My Surface Laptop
Hi everyone, I’m trying to enable the Ultimate Performance power plan on my Surface device. I’ve already used the command powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61, and it shows up in my system. However, when I try to activate it using powercfg /setactive [GUID], I get an “Invalid Parameters” error—even though the GUID matches exactly what was listed under powercfg /list. My current active plan is “High performance” (custom-made). Has anyone else encountered this issue on a Surface laptop? Is this plan blocked or incompatible with certain Surface models, or am I missing a step? Would appreciate any insights or tips! Thank you so much for your attention and participation.475Views0likes2CommentsSurface Pro 9 Type Cover Not Working in WinPE
Dear Microsoft Surface Support Team, I have created a custom WinPE recovery environment for my Surface Pro 9 (Intel). After injecting the official Surface driver package, the touchscreen now works correctly, but the Type Cover keyboard and touchpad still do not function. The official Microsoft Recovery Drive supports all three devices correctly, so the hardware is not at fault. Could someone from the Surface engineering or deployment team advise: Which driver enables the Type Cover in WinPE? Are additional WinPE Optional Components required? Is there an official Microsoft procedure for creating a fully functional WinPE image for Surface devices? I can provide full technical details if required. Thank you. I’m about to start my first year of university this September, and honestly, I never imagined I’d be dealing with this. I bought my Surface Laptop 7 last year during my final year of high school because I wanted a reliable laptop that would last throughout my four years at university. As a student, this was a huge investment for me, and I chose Microsoft because I trusted the quality and durability of the product. Unfortunately, just one day after the seller's warranty expired, the laptop suddenly stopped working. I was told that the main board had malfunctioned. What makes this even more upsetting is that I have taken great care of the laptop. It has never been dropped, never been exposed to water or any liquid, and has only been used for normal schoolwork. I simply didn't expect such a major hardware failure after only a year of use. With university starting in September, I'm devastated. I depend on this laptop for my studies, and replacing or repairing it is a significant financial burden. To make things even more difficult, there is no Microsoft-authorised service centre in Vietnam, so getting support has been incredibly challenging.12Views0likes0CommentsCritical Pen Hover & Stray Ink Issue on New Surface Pro 11 for Business with Slim Pen 2
Hello Microsoft Community and Support Staff, I am writing to report a critical and seemingly widespread issue with the pen input on the brand-new Surface Pro for Business, 13-inch (Intel model, often called Surface Pro 11 "Luna Lake"). The Core Problem: Pen Draws Without Touching the Screen When using the Surface Slim Pen 2, the device begins to register ink input while the pen is still hovering a few millimeters above the screen. It does not require any physical contact or pressure. This "hover-inking" makes handwriting completely unusable. As I write, any time I lift the pen to start a new letter or stroke, the pen continues to draw a line as it moves through the air to its next position. This results in messy, connected handwriting with unwanted "tails," completely defeating the purpose of having a premium inking device. This is Not a Defective Unit - It's a Replicable Problem Initially, I thought I had a faulty device. However, to isolate the issue, I have performed extensive testing: I have personally tested this on [3] brand-new Surface Pro 11 (Intel) devices. I have used [4] different Slim Pen 2s. The exact same hover-inking problem occurred on every single combination of device and pen. Furthermore, I have already performed all standard troubleshooting steps, including: Clean OS installation via Surface Recovery Image. Ensuring all Windows, driver, and firmware updates are installed. Running the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (which reported no errors). However, the same issue continues to occur even after trying these methods. Additionally, it has been reported that the issue also appears on the latest Surface Pro 12-inch model with the Snapdragon X Plus, just like on the Surface Pro 11 that uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite instead of Intel’s Lunar Lake. (I do not own any Snapdragon devices myself. If you own a Snapdragon device and are experiencing the same issue, please share your feedback.)" Video Evidence: I have recorded a clear video demonstrating the problem. It shows the pen drawing while hovering on the Surface Pro 11 and makes unwanted tails on handwriting letters. Video Link: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG_7BXFA-cL4evqe0RmRz--iFjDC1HVgT&si=EmEypaAqSyRozr67 Questions for Microsoft: Is this a known issue with the new Surface Pro 11 (Intel) model's firmware or drivers? What are the official steps to escalate this issue directly to the Surface engineering team for a fix? This is a major flaw in a flagship product that severely impacts its core functionality. I have submitted a formal bug report through the Feedback Hub, which can be found here: Feedback Hub Link: https://aka.ms/AAxzh27 I urge the Microsoft team to investigate this with high priority and release a firmware or software update to recalibrate the pen's Initial Activation Force (IAF). Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.1KViews11likes9CommentsSurface Pro 8 Signature Keyboard Defect: Internal bulge at hinge breaks connection
Hi everyone, I am writing to the community to report and seek advice on a connection failure with my Surface Pro 8 Signature Keyboard. While the exterior of the hinge looks mostly normal at a casual glance, there is a distinct abnormality hidden within that strongly suggests a structural defect. The Issue and Diagnosis: Tactile Anomaly: Although difficult to spot visually without close inspection, there is a noticeable internal bulge or swelling that can be clearly felt by touch on the backside of the hinge area. This indicates that internal components, likely the flexible cable, have deteriorated and are pressing outwards from the inside. Angle-Dependent Connection: The keyboard only works when the pen storage flap is opened to a very specific angle. Moving it to use the device or closing the flap causes the connection to drop instantly. My Usage History and Treatment of the Device: I am a university student, and shockingly, this is the second time a Surface Signature Keyboard has failed on me within my 5 years of study. This current keyboard has failed in less than two years since I purchased it. I have treated this premium accessory with the utmost care. I always store and carry my Surface in a soft, padded PC sleeve to protect it from any external stress. It has never been dropped, bent backward forcefully, or exposed to liquid. This failure occurred purely from the inside out, despite my extremely gentle usage. My Demand for Microsoft Support: This tactile internal deformation is a clear sign that this is not a user-inflicted physical damage issue, but rather a severe material or design failure in the hinge mechanism that should not happen in a premium product of this price point. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated. While I know this issue is difficult to capture in a photograph, it is very real to the touch. I am hoping a Microsoft moderator or support agent can review this unique case. My priority is to ask for a replacement as a special exception due to the nature of the failure. If that is absolutely not possible, I would at least expect a significant discount code for a replacement purchase as a necessary relief measure. Has anyone else encountered this same issue? Any advice on how to get Microsoft to investigate this as a manufacturing weakness would be appreciated. Thank you.72Views0likes1CommentMay 2026 Status – HDMI & Miracast Screen Share
Hello Microsoft team, After moving to Surface 3 with MTR, honestly, the experience hasn’t been as good as what we had with Surface Hub. Screen sharing is one of the main things we rely on daily, and right now HDMI and Miracast are not working the way we expected. It’s quite a step back for us. We really hope you can help bring back these functions. If it can’t be done directly in the MTR interface, at least allow it through the Windows side. This is important for our daily usage, so please don’t ignore this. We’d really appreciate your support on this.236Views0likes1CommentFeedback on the Surface 7 Snapdragon X Plus
Wow, what a major leap forward Microsoft have made with the Surface 7 Snapdragon X plus. Putting it alongside my MacBook Air M3 13 inch there is hardly any difference. Major points - Qualcomm snapdragon X plus provides power and long battery life without the heat and power drain of an Intel chip. Fully laminated screen, thin bezels. Aluminium body, feels just like the MacBook Air M3. Thin inline magnetic charging attachment. Keyboard does not show marks like the MacBook Air which looks old and worn within months. Good trackpad, although I mainly use a Logi Pebble mouse. Nice and small charger. I own a MacBook Air M3 and now a Microsoft Surface 7 Snapdragon X Plus (Both 13 inch) but I like the Surface more. I cant wait to see what the next generation of QUALCOMM processors will look like. My usage - Chrome, G mail, MS Office apps, internet, no gaming. I am the IT manager at work and we got two new surface pro 11th edition with snapdragon with windows 11 pro and cellular for our techs to use in the field. We got them slim pen 2's along with the devices for ease of use. When I set up the surface pros they worked great and speedy out of the box. After set up I decided to test the slim pen 2 as they came with a bundle from amazon with the keyboard. When I go to grab the pen from the charging dock/keyboard case the surface does a quick flash of a black screen and then my search bar disappears and the surface is notably more laggy and inputs (whether on touch screen or keyboard) are delayed. I have flashed reset these two devices with windows 11 usb boot up drives twice and the issue always starts when I take the pen out to use it for the first time. I have tried all the suggestions I have seen online and in copilot, but nothing seems to work. The only way I have gotten the device back to working order was to reset it, but once that pen is taken from the charger the whole issue starts over again. The issue is not fixed by logging into another user, disconnecting the pen, changing pen setting, restarting windows explorer, stopping searchhost in task manager. I have also tried changing all the setting on the pen and checking for driver updates but I have had no results. It seems to me to be a software issue between these two specific devices. Can someone please tell me if they have had this problem and what worked for them to fix it?68Views0likes1CommentSurface Laptop keyboard problem
Hi, I need help for Surface Laptop (7th generation) keyboard issue. We just received a brand new Surface Laptop (2036 model) from our supplier in France. At the first start, i choose, in win11 wizard, the "French (Traditionnal, AZERTY)" Keyboard. The end of wizard and installation went smoothly But the problem is that when I press certain keys, the caracter that is displayed is wrong. From A to Z keys it's ok. But some others are wrong. Ex : "!" shows "_", Alt-Gr @ displays tild (~), key "-" "_" displays ")" or "°" (with maj associate). I check the language, region, keyboard parameters, I see nothing inconsistent. I've download the Surface Laptop 7 update 26.033.32430.0 msi and installed it. Nothing changed. I've deleted the 4 keybords in device manager and reboot the Surface. Still the same problem. I did a factory reset. At the first start, i choose this time the "French (Standard, AZERTY)" keyboard. Not better... I've download The Surface Diagnostic Tool, but it doesn't help me. We installed 4 other Surface laptops a few months ago, and we haven't encountered any problems (with the same keyboard). Does anyone have any idea what the cause of this problem might be? Hardware ? Thanks a lot for help. Jean-Alain164Views0likes1CommentSurface IT tookit - unusable
I hate Microsoft with a passion everyday they get more greedy, more incompetent, and continue to force PWA (Websites that pretend their programs so that they can advertise to you within your programs. Just wanted to get that out there how much I hate dealing with Microsoft. I'm a 20 year Computer tech, so I'm Ok with computers. Trying to download an image for a customer surface pro 4 laptop. Download the surface It Toolkit - over the last 2 days it says Creative recovery USB Failed Every single Time. Tried multiple USB ports, tried re-downloading the image again, tried cleaning the partition and formatting the partition and USB stick. Do you think that MS would know how to make software usable - absolutely not - they can't even come up with an error message apart from Failed. Yes it's a 16 GB USB Stick. Can anyone assist with why Microsoft is so incompetent at basic programs to download images and to give proper error messages apart from a simple Failed when it comes to formatting USB - right after it completes the Validating Image. Do people on this forum get paid from Microsoft? Or do all of these people simply give out their own time so that MS can continue to focus their efforts on how to make more money while allowing the community to sort out there mess? I hate you Microsoft.98Views0likes0Comments- 45Views0likes0Comments
Surface Pro 11 Battery Issues?
Its been less than one year on my surface pro 11 and i was feeling like the battery was not lasting as long as stated and also lagging at some points. When I did the battery health check it showed that it had dropped around 13% from design capacity. Is this normal and should I get it repaired/replaced under warranty? Its just bit of a hassle as I am outside of the US.... Microsoft surface pro users outside of the US doesnt seem to have the proper support also, no contact and no email response from raising tickets....295Views0likes1CommentNetwork connection
I’ve three Surface Pros: two 7+ running Windows 11 Pro and an older Pro 5 running Windows 10 Pro. All fully up to date. All exhibit the same problem, even when placed next to each other and barely 2 metres from a wireless repeater that’s part of a TP-Link Deco mesh network. The problem is that randomly any one or two of them will claim there’s no internet connection while the other one or two are rock solid with a 90 plus score on my Orb app. Then a random time later the disconnected device will find the network. There’s no obvious pattern – sometimes the problem exhibits itself on a full cold start, sometimes on waking from sleep when the typecover had simply been closed. Other devices such as a phone or Android tablet never show this so I conclude it’s something to do with the Surface tablets – but what is it and how can I fix it? Grateful for any suggestions.67Views0likes0CommentsBattery Report Summary – Surface Laptop 7 (Snapdragon X Elite)
Report Date: November 27, 2025 Device: Microsoft Surface Laptop 7, Snapdragon X Elite Charge Cycles: 9 1. Key Data Battery Name: SurfaceBattery Manufacturer: SWD Design Capacity: 52,330 mWh Full Charge Capacity: 53,850 mWh Cycle Count: 9 2. Usage Observations Despite the battery being new (only 9 cycles), the report shows abnormally fast discharge. Examples from the report: On November 25, the battery dropped from 30% (16,340 mWh) to 23% (12,520 mWh) in ~20 minutes of use. On November 27, during “connected standby,” the battery fell from 77% (41,200 mWh) to 55% (29,440 mWh) within about one hour. These behaviors are inconsistent with expectations for a new device with full capacity. . Technical Analysis Battery authenticity: The data indicates the battery is original (manufacturer SWD, capacity matches design). Primary issue: The discharge rate is unusually fast and unstable, which is not normal for a battery with so few cycles. Possible causes: Defect in the Battery Management System (BMS). Internal cell imbalance. Firmware/driver issue affecting power management. 4. Conclusion and Request The Surface Laptop 7 is showing abnormal battery behavior despite being new and original. Any idea where this problem comes from? Any solution? Thanks in advance!345Views0likes3CommentsUnable to pause Smart Charging
The option to pause Smart Charging and charge battery to 100% has disappeared from Surface App. My battery is hovering at 76-77% and I am unable to charge it to 100% to prepare for working away from power supply. Was able to do this for over a year and the option is simply gone - tried repairing, resetting and reinstalling Surface App with no effect. This is on Surface 9 Pro for Business i7 (2038) / Win11 Ent. Please advise.1.1KViews2likes4Comments
