SharePoint Mobile App (iOS and Android) won't open 'link' content types from a document library
I have a client occasionally creating 'links' (URL) within their SPO document libraries with the 'Links' content type. These links open as expected from a desktop browser. They will not open when browsing to it from the SP mobile app. I apologize if this is a duplicate entry but I've been searching online fruitlessly.
Cheers!

Has this been resolved? We have an extremely large team that exclusively uses mobile and this is a very inconvenient find as we have been linking all of our videos that they can't seem to open in the Sharepoint App. SOS.
- rcaprio34Copper ContributorAlso hoping for any positive news out of the Sharepoint app regarding this issue.

I know this question is old, but because there is no answer nor solution I try to give you workaround what we found out! We had the same problem. We used link to PDF in SharePoint menu, which did not work on mibile APP.
So we found PDF in SharePoint mobile APP (we wend to documents and clicekd on PDF we needed), then we shared this PDF by phone to Teams, or wherever you want to, so you can grab a link on desktop to use it. Take this link and put it in menu - result is, that this link works on desktop and SharePoint mobile Apps!
Links to mobile PDF looks like this:
https://xxxxx.sharepoint.com/:b:/s/yoursitename/EdmgKe9X_nVArei1DtizTMEBjcCI_X17XE8Oe1360LG0vA
Hope it will help you, or whoever will need solution for this horrible error 🙂
Cheers 😉

- Joel DuinkerkeCopper ContributorHi - thanks for the tip, I couldn't get this work after substituting in my org name and site name. Where does that last part come from?
- kirillputrykCopper Contributor
Hi Joel Duinkerke ,
Sorry I am not here very often 🙂 Get your link right from SharePoint. Just right click on PDF and then Share it to people who already has access to it. You will get the link which will work for your PDF.
I hope it helps.

We created a new site and are experiencing the same problem. Links open in the mobile browser and in the OneDrive app but not the SharePoint app. We see links as being very useful to represent document appearing in multiple places and this make the mobile SharePoint app useless. Anyone found a fix for this?

So 9 months after your question, and I think it is actually getting harder to use sharepoint on an ios device over that period.
I am guessing that the IOS team is making it harder from Apple, and the sharepoint app team are not actually using it themselves on IOS, as it is nearly impossible to use.
1. Putting a document link in an email, opens in a browser, and you cannot get from there to the SP mobile app on IOS at all. I am happy even for a work around, however I am not sure that I can even past the link into the SP app to try to work around the issue.
2. There is no way to add sharepoint or onedrive into the share item list using the box with the arrow
3. Cannot edit or annotate PDF documents in sharepoint, cannot set a shortcut to a link to acrobat or sharepoint or anywhere to annotate a linked document in sharepoint.
Maybe I am missing the work around / or way to get to MS apps from sharepoint links on a mobile device - is there any help or manual, or anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Doug

PittSharePointPro or anyone Is there any update on this? This should be considered priority because it limits options when building sites in SharePoint and in our case, we have already designed the page and now we should redo all just because mobile app don't support this - in my view - basic function.

Jakub420I'm unaware of any updates on this

Anybody out there that can comment with authority on this?

A very valid question. We're seeing the same behavior for Promoted Links and even Link Lists which are for URLs outside SharePoint. Works in browser, even mobile browsers, but not in the SP Mobile app. Very frustrating, and turns the app into a hindrance rather than a help for users. PittSharePointPro

Brent Hawthorne I just observed the same thing. .Url opens in Edge browser on iOS but not in the SharePoint App. The app shows the content instead of following it.
- Eva VogelIron ContributorHello! In my eyes a content type is a like formula and it is usually related with the right list or library. The links content type is related to the links list app. So i guess that’s why you can’t see one of your docs in SharePoint. Hope that helps, Greets, Eva

Hi Eva,
Thanks for the response. In past versions I might have agreed. But the content type in question comes OOB with document libraries now (at least in modern SPO). A client might 'expect' it to work in the mobile app as well. And if not, why didn't I, the tech consultant, advise? It's not a show stopper for the client, but I prefer to give them a straight answer about why it does not work. Especially since we've been tripped up by a few other off-the-wall issues such as SP calendars 'connect to outlook' being unavailable with outlook for mac.
Cheers!
