No more background blur

Hi,

I just bought a Logitech Brio 4k webcam. At first tested on my laptop everything seems great.

Now plugged in to my workstation I had during one meeting the possibility to blur my background but now the option is gone 😞

I tried to log out and in of Teams, reinstalled Teams, removed and reinstalled the driver, uninstalled every logitech software to use the native logitech BRIO cam given by the W10 driver but nothing seems to work...

Do you have any clue how to fix this ?

Many thanks

Thierry Barthel I actually did some digging - blur does have a technical requirement :

The optional Blur my background video effect requires a processor with Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) support. (Taken from here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/hardware-requirements-for-the-teams-app)

My PC that I am facing this issue on has an older CPU that doesn't have AVX2.

Potentially this technical requirement may not have been enforced previously but that may have changed it seems but it explains why i don't have the capability any longer - works fine on my other devices that have this capability.

How about the machine you are working from?

Yes, it's back! On my old desktop PC. That's exactly what we were talking about and wanted.
        Thanks Microsoft!

Thierry Barthel  You can resolve this issue in any windows 10 PC by using Snapchat Camera. It does not require an account, it will ask you for an email, put any if you want. There you have a lot more liberty to use ANY background, animation, etc. https://snapcamera.snapchat.com/

    1. Install Snap Camera

    2. Close teams.

    3. Restart Team, Choose Snap Camera.

    4. In the Snap App cycle to any filter you want. See pictures below if you don't believe me 🙂

    Enjoy guys!!!!

Thank you for your answer, I know some workaround like snap camera. Personnally I'd rather recommend XSplit Vcam.

But as some people said we want that in Teams 😄

Patricio Lobos your suggestion of using snap chat worked well enough for me.   Thanks for posting this as a work around.  For those that are saying that they don't like the non-professional lenses, I hear you.  I wear a tie to work, I don't want cat ears.   But there are plenty of "plain" backgrounds that are plenty professional for me.  For example, I searched "brick" and immediately found a black and white image of a brick wall which shows up behind me.  Works fine, I like the way I pop out over the black and white background.  The detailing near the edges is not as good as blur before the update, but after the update blur background doesn't work at all.  So this is way way better than that.  It hides the pictures of my family on the back wall of my office and it looks plenty professional.    I am sure you could find plenty of other professional backgrounds with some thoughtful searches, but while I am on brick there was "USA brick" which ad a red brick wall with an American flag hanging on it. I rather liked the composition but maybe slightly less "professional".

        Hi All,

My blur was working perfectly without any processing power issues ( cpu <2% ). I am too on an 3770k CPU.

What is this non-sense? Do we need to buy new hardware to get the blur functionality back? It was working perfectly without AVX2.

        Quitte odd.

Yes, please fix this for external webcam users.

I'm a teacher suddenly finding myself working remotely. I've been using my district issued laptop for teleconferencing in Teams and I'm very surprised to find that when connected in Microsoft Teams the blur background feature does not work with the brand new external webcam I just bought so I could use my home desktop instead.

From the responses I'm reading on this post, I see it may be partly due to the age of my computer. (It's been rebuilt several times.) However, I also see that the feature WAS working for people until just recently.

I suppose it's not a deal breaker since at least I get to get rid of the box on my desk that the laptop is sitting on and everything can be done on one computer now but as a personal preference, I like the background blur feature. I'm kinda bummed that it won't work for me now.

Now I have to pretty up my desk behind me and keep it clutter free. ::sigh::

Thierry Barthel Exactly the same here. I have a Dell M6700 Precision, lastest drivers,  Windows 10 pro and Office 365 E3.

Bought a Logitech Brio ultra 4K camera I have now windows hello thanks, but not blur in Microsoft Teams.

Is it a windows driver or is it not "MS Teams certified" ??

  • I'm almost happy that I'm not the only one with this issue.

I even tried to fully reinstalled Windows 10 but nothing work !

Trevor_Page Microsoft has updated the requirements. As of June 2021, the requirement for virtual background is now Windows 10 OR avx2 supported cpu. This is information from the link you attached in your best response post

Thierry BarthelYes I have exactly the same with a lifecam HD-3000 from MS. Yesterday the blur stopped working. The day before it was all fine. Perhaps it is related to an update of my teams desktop version. I noticed it was updated. Love to know a work around or fix 😞

Paul650 I'm having the same problem but have a work around.  Control + Shift + P works to Blur background (and also unblur).  Would still like to know why I no longer have the option.

I don't think so, a lot collegues with laptops don't have this problem. It seems a system with an external webcam has issues.
  • Thierry Barthel - I have exactly the same issue. Logitech Brio when first installed background blur was available and worked perfectly - next day capability has disappeared. Have tried most of what you have tried including log out and in to teams and still no good.
