No more background blur
- Mar 19, 2020
Thierry Barthel I actually did some digging - blur does have a technical requirement :
The optional Blur my background video effect requires a processor with Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) support. (Taken from here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/hardware-requirements-for-the-teams-app)
My PC that I am facing this issue on has an older CPU that doesn't have AVX2.
Potentially this technical requirement may not have been enforced previously but that may have changed it seems but it explains why i don't have the capability any longer - works fine on my other devices that have this capability.
How about the machine you are working from?
Thierry Barthel You can resolve this issue in any windows 10 PC by using Snapchat Camera. It does not require an account, it will ask you for an email, put any if you want. There you have a lot more liberty to use ANY background, animation, etc. https://snapcamera.snapchat.com/
1. Install Snap Camera
2. Close teams.
3. Restart Team, Choose Snap Camera.
4. In the Snap App cycle to any filter you want. See pictures below if you don't believe me 🙂
Enjoy guys!!!!
- Thierry BarthelApr 22, 2020Iron ContributorThank you for your answer, I know some workaround like snap camera. Personnally I'd rather recommend XSplit Vcam.
But as some people said we want that in Teams 😄- teacher1973May 04, 2020Copper ContributorThis misplaced overabused dominance is why is hate Micro$oft products soo much.
They Increase the sales of hardware by forcing users via software. This is Just the tip of the iceberg.

Patricio Lobos your suggestion of using snap chat worked well enough for me. Thanks for posting this as a work around. For those that are saying that they don't like the non-professional lenses, I hear you. I wear a tie to work, I don't want cat ears. But there are plenty of "plain" backgrounds that are plenty professional for me. For example, I searched "brick" and immediately found a black and white image of a brick wall which shows up behind me. Works fine, I like the way I pop out over the black and white background. The detailing near the edges is not as good as blur before the update, but after the update blur background doesn't work at all. So this is way way better than that. It hides the pictures of my family on the back wall of my office and it looks plenty professional. I am sure you could find plenty of other professional backgrounds with some thoughtful searches, but while I am on brick there was "USA brick" which ad a red brick wall with an American flag hanging on it. I rather liked the composition but maybe slightly less "professional".

Hi All,
My blur was working perfectly without any processing power issues ( cpu <2% ). I am too on an 3770k CPU.
What is this non-sense? Do we need to buy new hardware to get the blur functionality back? It was working perfectly without AVX2.
Quitte odd.
