No longer getting popup call notifications
Hello everyone,
As of a couple of days ago, I ran into an issue where when someone calls me in Teams I can hear the phone ringing, but I don't get a notification or anything to click on to accept the call.
I have to physically go through my team's chat list and check each person and in the upper right-hand corner if that person happens to be calling me I will be shown an option to accept the call.
I normally only get calls from a couple of people so it has not been too bad as I just bounce between the two people who normally call me and see which one is showing these buttons, but today near the end of my shift I was getting calls from other teammates I don't normally hear from and I had to wait until the call timed out so I could go into the call history to see who was trying to call me.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Does anyone know how I would fix this?
This is what I am no longer seeing. I had a team member take a screenshot of me calling them.
Thank you for any help you can provide!
Have a great weekend!
p.s I did check Focus Assist in windows and I am not running that. I am also not running quiet hours either.
The only thing I can think of is I did just recently update to Windows 10 Ver. 20H2
Eelco1978 I've had an update from Microsoft that it should be patched this weekend 21/11/2020. Here's a link to the Teams user voice site that shows that lots of people are having the same issue, Micosoft are working on it. https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/908686-bug-reports I've found installing the older version is a work round till the fix is sorted.
Hope this helps someone

Try to right-click on the date and time - Adjust date/time (Windows 10) and select the Sync now option.
- Kyle_JoeCopper ContributorI spent hours trying to resolve this same issue.
I found the suggestion from Daniel_Donate.
I have 3 monitors. I made an external monitor the main/primary monitor which was the cause of the issue.
I only moved Teams App back to the monitor of the screen of the laptop. Then call notification starts appearing for incoming calls.
I moved the Teams app back to the external monitor and the notifications kept coming.
The fix is as easy as that.
Thank you Daniel_Donate- Filip PaďourekCopper ContributorSame configuration and issue for me, I try it on tuesday in the office. Thanks for tip 👍

I have two monitors and the laptop screen. Sometimes only the laptop screen.
My problem prooved to have a total different cause. I came to that conclusion since I enlarged the ssd that contains the C: drive. This allowed me to move the AppData directory back from the C: drive to C:\Users\<username>\AppData, replacing the directory link to the D:\AppData location where I moved it trying to solve the lack of space on the C: drive at that time.
That fixed the problem. I get popups again when people call me via Teams. Yeeh!
To me it seems that Microsoft programmers don't take their own interface definitions serious enough to keep themselves to it. Stick to the plan and put executables under Program Files instead of AppData!

If you have Remote Desktop session or Citrix session open , the incoming call won't pop-up.
you can use alt-tab to find out in the background somewhere. It appears all versions of Teams having the same problem.

cgigate1460 Hi thanks for the info. However, I'm not in Remote Desktop.
I just ran some tests with my HelpDesk Support guy.
Sequence of events:
- Sign into VPN.
- Contact HD guy via Lotus Notes Sametime IM
- Teams was open already from yesterday
- He calls me. It Rings and popup occurs.
- I explain what was happening and why I asked him to call. Asked him to call again in 30 seconds while I close Teams and reopen it.
- No ring. No popup. HD guy explains that on his end rang once or twice and went to voicemail.
- My theory was only the 1st call (after restaring Teams) fails, so asked him to try 2nd time. Same problem.
- Theory shot. Told to call 3rd time, this time I'll focus on the Teams Window. It worked.
- New theory is that Teams must be the active Window, which of course isn't very helpful at all.
- Calls 4th & 5th times, Focused on Teams Window, no ring, no popup. 6th time worked. So not focus issue either. Seemingly random. The 4th and 5th calls he said, "It rings a few times, says calling, changes to Forwarding to Voicemail. Then I get an automated message stating that you're currently unavailable and to leave a message..."
Very bizarre.
- mkelly4400Copper ContributorJust tried another test. I also have a Surface book. I did NOT sign onto VPN. 1st call came through. Second call went to Voicemail. So it's not the VPN. For what it is worth, I minimized teams and opened an Edge browser so focus was not on Teams. But already established on Desktop (on VPN) that wasn't the issue. Still seemingly random.

No suggestions seem to work for me. Did Microsoft even look at this problem at all? Were they able to reproduce? Microsofts keeps amazing me with its discouragement policy.

ChuckCoggins Thank you for the clear description of the error.
The problem is still present with
Teams Version 1.4.00.16575 (64-bit)
It seems to be founded deeply in the construction of teams.
- FritsKuijkCopper Contributorannoying problem still exist, Teams Version 1.4.00.16575 (64-bit)

FritsKuijk This is still an issue with 1.4.00.19572 version. Very frustrating indeed

I've had the same issue some time during 2020, then it was gone, and now, in June 2021, it has reappeared.
I frequently get calls. If I have my headset on, I notice because it's ringing, but without the headset, I get no notification whatsoever, the only sign is that I see a missed call in my activity list later on.
Alt + Tab does not contain any popup window.
When I do hear the ringing, I seem to have no way to tell who is calling me; I can just press Ctrl + Shift + S to blindly accept whichever incoming call it might be.

It seems to have started working again for me; presumably one of the recent updates.

Get the same problem today.
all incoming calls not bring the notification out from the desktop app, Android app. missed every calls. I can hear incoming call's ring sounds, but nowhere to answer calls.
only the web version incoming call pops up to let me answer calls.
it looks like Microsoft problem - DannyVLRSCopper Contributor
Changing your main display to your laptop not your monitor seems to fix it ChuckCoggins
- DanielNiccoliSteel ContributorMy laptop is stored under the desk and the lid is closed. That is not an option.
I can't accept most of the incoming calls because there is no popup and my Teams application (Windows Desktop) give no indication -- other than the ringer -- that someone is calling and no option where I can accept the call.
I am on version 1.4.00.4167.- vini_freakCopper ContributorTry to minimize all windows when someone is calling, it works for me. Just a workaround, but not such a a bad one.

I am still getting same issue. Is there any other fix available then switching back to older version?

Same thing happens to me, the notification sounds but I can't find where to answer the call. Really annoying for a product that used to work pretty well. Also working with 3 monitors (one is laptop, which I leave teams up on because it has the camera and I want to be looking that way when I answer, would really not like to have to move it to another monitor.)
- ChuckCogginsCopper Contributor
srm-stevenroymallory are you using remote desktop?
If so, does the remote window sit on top of your main monitor window?
If so, unlock the taskbar. Move the main taskbar to another window not being occupied by remote desktop.
Lock it in place on the other monitor.
This resolved my issue. You cannot be covering the main taskbar with the notification icon by the remote desktop application.
You could probably just try sliding the main taskbar over to the screen with teams if that is all you are running on that monitor.

Same here. Observation is that is happens especially when I get a call while I am in a RDP session. When I then minimize the RDP window, no popup is there from which I could identify or take the call. Have to wait until the caller hangs up and I can identify him by checking the missed call. Very annoying.
