Outlook (365) Need Password - Issue
Hi,
We are using E3, outlook 365 in our company. Some of our users' outlook stop sync with exchange and ask for password, as shown in below image:
to fix the issue, I clear entries in Credential Manager, Delete Temporary Files, unchecked "Use Cached Exchange mode", restart system and check this again.
but after some couple of days, outlook again stop sync and ask for password.
I'll appreciate for any possible support to fix this issue permanently.
Thanks,
- Hi Muhammed,
Add the Registry key as advised in the article
We've been seeing this for more than 6 months sporadically and again same for one computer today. There was no recent password change but suddenly behavior as described here. Adding this key and setting it to 1 fixed the issue with no reboot. We're seeing this reported by a very small number (half or a quarter percent maybe?) of the clients that we manage.
Best, Chris

- ThshahCopper ContributorGo to control panel \ Credential Manager \ Email address and update password. this issue will fix.
- BEBakerBrass ContributorI don't see any email address setting in Credential Manager.

1. Find the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity2. Create DWORD value (32-Bit) called EnableADAL
3. Right-click the new DWORD, click edit, change to decimal 0
4. Within the same registry key create another DWORD value
(32-Bit) called DisableADALatopWAMOverride5. Right-click the new DWORD, click edit, change to decimal 1
6. Close the registry editor and reboot
HISTORY OF THIS PROBLEM:
We've probably seen this problem half a dozen times or so in the last year and every time I came across it I could never find a fix no matter how much Googling I did. Finally I have the solution (or at least the solution that's worked for me)...outlook need password no prompt
This problem for me was always with Outlook 2010 and 365 mailboxes. The initial setup of Outlook would work fine and Outlook WOULD connect. However after the initial setup you close Outlook and when you open it again (2nd time onwards) Outlook would say need password but would never display the normal username & password box. So basically there is nowhere to type in the needed user credentials and Outlook never connects.
HOW TO FIX OUTLOOK NEEDS PASSWORD BUT NO PASSWORD PROMPT APPEARS:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft
\Office\14.0\Common\General3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) value.
4. Type DoNotQueryUserNotificationState, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click DoNotQueryUserNotificationState, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7. Exit Registry Editor.
Try This Solution

Kindly try this. Have worked most of the times.
Open Powershell (if not working normally then open as Admin), run the following command and then restart Outlook. Hope this helps. 🙂
- Add-AppxPackage -Register "C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy\Appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode -ForceApplicationShutdown

in my case all these magic did not helped.
my motherboard was replaced recently, so the reason for the error was that outlook/office had a conflict, as my previous device has another Id.
The solution was to remove „work & school accounts“ in windows control center and then outlook registered the same credentials again and it started working again.
It would be much better, outlook would show the problem instead of immediately closing the prompt.

BEBakerHi,
To be precise, I went searched on windows task bar for "school" and selected "access to work or school account". A Dialog under Account/Access to work or school account" is shown.
There I removed all registered connections and then added them again.
Doing this registers the devive as a new device on Azure Active Directory and it did the trick for me.
I hope this helps

- RaziuddinCopper ContributorIt is a user Profile issue, recreating a new profile will be worked fine. and logging with the same outlook profile will fix the issue. it worked fine for me. just it once
- gmaurissenCopper ContributorHad the same issue after connecting to a different organization in Teams.
So closing outlook, signing out from Teams, sign back in with my company account and restart outlook solved the issue.- BEBakerBrass Contributor
Did it resolve the issue long-term? I could resolve the issue by rebooting the machine but it has always come back a day or two later.

BEBaker as far as my experience goes this is linked to the multiple organizations you're connected to. So as long as you don't need to switch organizations it's fine but once you do it's back. So quit outlook, re-logon in Teams with your correct organization and restart outlook.

Muhammad Ali Khan I just worked on a system with the same issue. Go to settings,Accounts, Email& accounts settings and remove the Email account you see listed there. Go back to outlook and it will ask you for the password.
- MastahhCopper ContributorHi, anybody solved this issue? For me it is occurs after 6-7days, so every Monday for me. I need restart PC to solve this issue till next monday.
- BEBakerBrass Contributor
Mastahh I have been working with Microsoft and we have spent hours and hours on this issue. It comes back for me every two or three days. It is occurring on my two desktops but not my laptop. We have recreated the Outlook profile, modified the registry, run the SARA tool a dozen times, and repaired Office four times. I have had three different tech support agents and each of them tries the same things but nothing has worked. Very frustrating.

Do you have this option to save Outlook to the cloud checked?
Does unchecking it help?

- MastahhCopper Contributor

I just bought a new PC and paid for a new license of Microsoft 365 and this is happening to me too. I am not a programmer and need help fixing this. Who can I call to get this fixed. I should not have to try and fix myself.

Thanks. I've had this issue for a while and the only solution was to reboot. I manage 900+ users and I will be adding this to my Office 365 distribution.

It is easier to solve this issue if you go to account and disconnect the office 365 account and connect it back in the windows.
After that, please restart the outlook and no need to enter the password. It will connect. Before doing this step, I have deleted all the cached credentials in the credential Manager.
It worked for me.
Hope this is helpful.
