*Updated 9/3* Syncing in Microsoft Edge Preview Channels
Syncing your browser data in Microsoft Edge Preview builds
We heard your feedback and are committed to making sync a more reliable feature across devices. We’ve rebuilt our sync experience from the ground up and we’re making extra effort to ensure that sync meets your expectations. Our goal for sync is to ensure that you have a consistent browsing experience when you choose to roam your favorites, passwords, history, and other data across your devices.
*Updated 9/3* What is the current state of sync and what is the road ahead?
- You can now sync Favorites, Settings (preference), Passwords & Form-fill data across Windows devices, and across Microsoft Edge on Android and iOS (instructions below).
- Sync is enabled for both Microsoft accounts (MSA) as well as work or school accounts (AAD).
- Note that AAD sync is only available for AAD premium accounts (SKUs which include Azure Information Protection) and is not yet rolled out for macOS.
- We are working on pending attributes and will be enabling them soon (history, extensions & open tabs)
- As we are building a new system, Edge builds are not expected to sync with earlier versions of Microsoft Edge. You can import your existing favorites from earlier versions of Microsoft Edge.
Enabling sync on PC
When you sign in with your Microsoft account on Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, you’ll get a dialogue asking for consent to enable sync. Once you give the consent, your favorites should start syncing. Note that you can customize the sync behavior from the sync settings page.
PC Sync Settings
Note that some attributes might be disabled on this page. They will be enabled on this page as we enable sync for them.
Enabling sync on Android
Our Microsoft Edge app on Android can now sync with the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels. But first, you’ll need to upgrade to the latest version on Google play.
To sync with Microsoft Insider Channels, sign in with your Microsoft Account, ensure that it is selected as your active account, go to Settings > Account and select your Microsoft account, then select Microsoft Edge Insider Channels > Switch.
After you switch to Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, you will be asked how you want to handle your existing favorites. You can choose to import and sync your existing favorites with Microsoft Edge Insider Channels. If you choose no, your existing favorites will be deleted before sync is enabled.
If you choose to import favorites, when you visit Favorites for the first time, you’ll see all your current favorites and they’ll start syncing with your Microsoft Edge Insider Channels on your PC.
Enabling sync on iOS
We are happy to announce that we have expanded our sync support to iOS. To begin syncing your favorites between you iOS devices and your other Microsoft Edge Insider devices, you must first update Microsoft Edge for iOS to the latest version on iTunes. To sync with the Insider Channels you can follow similar steps as those listed above in the Sync with Android section.
First you will need to sign in with your Microsoft Account, ensure that it is selected as your active account, go to Settings > Account and select your Microsoft account, then select Microsoft Edge Insider Channels > Switch.
After you switch to Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, you will be asked how you want to handle your existing favorites. You can choose to import and sync your existing favorites with Microsoft Edge Insider Channels. If you choose no, your existing favorites will be deleted before sync is enabled.
Once you have completed these steps you will see all of your imported favorites in your favorites list.
What do you think?
We are excited about sync in Microsoft Edge Insider Channels and are very optimistic that we are building it right. However, we want to be sure that sync works across your workflows and browsing scenarios. Please give it a try and let us know how it worked for you. If you run into any issues, use the in-app feedback button to submit the details. If you have other feedback for us about sync, please leave a comment below.
Thank you for trying the new Microsoft Edge.
Hi All,
We have rolled out a fix to the problem where clients were reporting error on sync. We expect an app restart should get the client back into a functional state for sync now. We so much appreciate your patience and willingness to help all this while. Apologies that it took us time to get this fix across to you. If you still see any errors, please submit using in-app feedback button (and drop me a private message so that we jump on it faster). Sincere thanks for working with us on building a better product.

Hi,
- sign out of any other Edge insider browsers that are connected to the same Microsoft account that you are using and only keep one Edge insider browser signed in.
- in that one browser, delete everything that you want (bookmarks, passwords etc) and let it stay connected to the Internet to sync all the changes back to the server, wait at least 1 hour.
- after that try signing into your other Edge insider browsers again and the changes should be seen on all of them.
in case it doesn't work, try step 1 to 3 again but on step 1, after signing out of other browsers, fully uninstall them as well (choose delete user data during uninstall process)
- NarggBrass ContributorWould like to know why Microsoft does not allow syncing of data on Office 365 Business Premium accounts? While it does on free consumer accounts. Just makes me mad.

- dgiaffeCopper ContributorJust installed Edge beta to see what you guys are up to and the sync was really something that was a deal-breaker for me in order to switch to Edge. Very happy to see you guys doing it, and the aspects that are enabled work very well so far. Good job!

which problems were you having with sync in Edge beta?
if there is anything, feel free to report it using the Smiley feedback button on the top right corner of the browser or post it in the discussion forum:

Also Edge Dev and Canary are more feature rich

I still cannot sync and have sent in so many smiley feedbacks. I was told a few weeks ago that a upcoming release would solve the last of the sync issue but I still cannot sync.
It is able to pull my profile photo but displays an error for the sync status. I have tried different computers, signing out and back in etc.
- BriggsJoCopper ContributorWill we be able to sync using Windows 8.1. I'm signed into my Azure AD account, and sync is greyed out and says your organization has turned off sync.
- Hi,
I can use sync on Windows 8.1 but if it's greyed out for you it means your organization has disabled that via group policy i think.
you can see which policies are being applied to your browser if you type this into your address bar:
edge://policy/- akhatorFormer Employee
HotCakeX We recently fixed bugs which were leading to incorrectly showing of the message that organization has turned off sync. Please update to the latest clients. Also note that currently Edge sync for AAD accounts will be only available to subscriptions that include
- AAD P1 and P2 with ESR enabled via Azure AD portal
- AIP P1
- Office 365 E3 and above
Thanks again for your patience and support in making Edge sync more reliable.
- e_rottierCopper ContributorThe new Edge browser is really good BTW! No errors or crashes so far, except for the thing there I can't sync with an Office 365 account.
I use it everywhere now, on my personal computer, at work, my (android) phone.
Before I was using Vivaldi because of all their features. That still is a good browser, but the new Edge is going to be a new industry standard; mark my words!
I work as an IT admin. When Edge Chromium is released, I am going to use it as the next company default at all my customers, instead of the good ol' Internet Explorer 11.
Keep it up folks at the Edge Chromium team! - Knut Erik HollundBrass Contributor
Elliot Kirk so when I sync my data in edge (company account), where are the data stored?
- akhatorFormer Employee
Knut Erik Hollund For work or school accounts, data is stored in the same Substrate data storage used by Office.

I have a payment method setup in my Microsoft account - why doesn't it show up in Edge Beta?
- If it doesn't show in beta then there is a problem, try switching to Dev or Canary for now till it gets fixed.

Greg Hejl
Greg,
> (Edge C) Settings > Profiles. Click on Go to my account then, hit Payment & billing and > Payment options. Payment info will not, does not do the same. This is the same as my prior description with Edge going through the OS Settings window... ends up at the same place.
Cheers,
Drew - Try Edge insider Dev. it's newer than Beta and shows my payment options.

Elliot Kirk Sync is not working for me anymore. It did on the early dev builds. But now I get an error stating "Sync isn't available right now" I have AzureAD P1 and have enable enterprise state roaming with no luck.
This is happenign on multiple Windows 10 comptuers, Mac OS, iPhone and iPad
- akhatorFormer Employee
Michael Rennie sorry to hear that sync didn't work for you. We have isolated few issues which leave the sync clients in a bad state. We are rolling out recovery fix this week. If you are still facing problems with sync next week, please submit in-app feedback using smiley button on top right. Thanks for your patience.
- Michael RennieBrass Contributor
akhator OK thanks, I have tried everything I can think of. Hopefully this will fix it.
Please note I have submitted in-app feedback 5 times in the last 2 months about this issue but have not heard back on any of them.
- ikjadoonBronze ContributorI'd posted before, but want to send it again:
Will Settings sync also sync edge://flags? I hope it does / will sync the flags: no other browser, frustratingly, does this, but it would be a lifesaver!Yes please Elliot Kirk would you consider this and pass it to the Edge team? Thanks!
- Drew1903Silver ContributorAlthough, flags are for experimental and testing purposes. Should not, still, be needed once we are non-beta, non-Insider version.
Cheers,
Drew
Sent from Windows Phone- There are Many useful flags that can be turned on for many purposes in Google Chrome stable version. the same can be said for Edge once it becomes stable.
also when it becomes stable, there will still be many people who will use Canary or Dev.
so it's part of the user's settings and preferences and should be synced.

Elliot Kirk I have an Office 365 Business Essentials plan. Should sync work? When I sign in, I get a message that "your organization has turned off sync". If Office 365 accounts aren't supported for sync at the moment, are there plans to support them in the near future?
- Elliot KirkFormer Employee
dylanstaley, it is my understanding that if you have an Office 365 account, and are on Windows 10 latest, or MacOS latest, sync should work for Favorites and Settings. Thanks - Elliot

Elliot Kirk Could you clarify the requirements for syncing with a work account? In the post, it's mentioned that AAD accounts need a premium subscription with Azure Information Protection. It looks like Office 365 Business Essentials doesn't include this feature. I can add Azure Information Protection for $2/month, or Azure Premium P1 for $6/month. Can you let me know which one I need to have? Also, is this a temporary requirement or will an additional charge on top of the base Office 365 cost always be required to sync Edge?
