Allow Uniqueness of Glossary Terms across Governance Domains
When glossary terms are created and published, there is no check for the same term name in another governance domain. Some organizations do want to enforce term uniqueness across all domains. Would it be feasible to provide an optional switch in Unified Catalog settings to turn this on?
Cross workspace lineage for Fabric Lakehouse tables in Purview
I’m currently exploring lineage capture in Microsoft Purview for Fabric Lakehouse tables that are spread across multiple workspaces, following medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold in separate Fabric workspaces). While reviewing the documentation, I noticed the stated limitation around cross-workspace lineage for non-power BI assets, as mentioned here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/data-map-lineage-fabric Is there any update or workaround planned to support cross-workspace Fabric lineage in Purview? Is this limitation on the product roadmap or actively being worked on? Until native support is available, are there any recommended design patterns to handle lineage in this scenario?
Scaling Data Governance- Does a Purview in a Day Framework Exist?
Hello Purview Community, I’ve been exploring the available acceleration resources for Microsoft Purview, and one thing I noticed is a potential gap in the "In a Day" workshop series. While we have excellent programs like Power BI in a Day or Fabric in a Day, I haven't yet seen a formalized Purview in a Day framework designed to help organizations jumpstart their governance journey in a single, cohesive session. I am reaching out because my team is currently preparing something in this area that we believe will be very useful to the community and Microsoft in the future. Rather than working in isolation, we want to ensure we are aligned with the official roadmap. I wanted to reach out to the community and the Microsoft product team to ask: Is there an official "In a Day" initiative for Purview currently in the works? If not, who would be the best point of contact to discuss alignment? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and seeing if we can build something impactful together!How to Unassign Assets from Data Products in Microsoft Purview at Once
Hello, I’ve assigned around 100 assets to a specific data product and would now like to unassign all of them at once, rather than removing them individually. Using the Purview REST API with Python, I was able to retrieve the list of my data products and successfully identify the target data product. However, I haven’t been able to fetch the list of assets currently assigned to it, which prevents me from performing a bulk unassignment. Could anyone please advise how to retrieve and unassign all assets from a data product programmatically?
Purview workspace scan: table visible but metadata not ingested
I'm copying gold tables from a dev workspace lakehouse to a user workspace warehouse in Fabric. The copied tables appear correctly in the warehouse, but when I run a Purview scan on the entire user workspace, all metadata is ingested except for one specific table. All other warehouse objects scan successfully - only this particular copied table is missing from Purview. What could cause this selective scanning issue?
Custom Attributes with 1 to Many relationship
Hi All, I am looking to enhance an asset (report) by adding custom metadata fields, such as subscription details. However, each report can have multiple subscriptions, creating a one-to-many relationship. Since managed attributes do not support this, what is the recommended approach to address this in Purview?Data product search is broken: no results for partial terms
Searching for data products using partial terms returns zero results, despite the existence of data products with matching names. For example, searching for 'risk' yields no results even though we have three data products that have 'riskscores' in their names. I have created a support ticket, and was told that the PG has stated this behavior was by design. I just can't wrap my head around this statement. Search is the reason why data catalog tools are popular and help democratize data, and this type of searching doesn’t really help to make the data products discoverable. A feature request was created (3135) but I was also asked to post here for visibility. Here's some proof:
Cannot see Data Map and Unified Catalog in the free version of Microsoft Purview
Hey, I am trying to setup a data connection in the free version of Microsoft Purview. However, I cannot see the Data Map and Unified Catalog features. Is this the intended limitation of the free version? Or do I miss something?Feature request: Get rid of "Welcome to new Microsoft Purview portal" screen
Any new user of Purview DGS will be shown this screen: I strongly believe this should be an admin led tenant-wide decision, and not an 'any new user on it's own decision'. The screen is confusing and completely unnecessary for new users with "Global Catalog Reader" permissions only. The problem with this screen is that it results in some users landing in the classic portal, while all documentation and training materials that we share are based on the new portal. My suggestions would be to move this option to 'settings'. After all, as Microsoft, you want your users to use the new portal too, right? P.S. in the meantime, please get rid of the homepage and move all that under a 'getting started' page: Catalog homepage improvements are urgently needed | Microsoft Community Hub
Building a ChatGPT like app on top of Purview catalog data
We've started experimenting with the Purview catalog and added some governance domains and data products. This helps us build up a rich source of meta data especially when linked with the glossaries and data assets. However, what we really want to get to is a solution where users can ask a question based on their objective and get told which report to run / website to access etc, like you would do with ChatGPT. The Purview CoPilot seems to be focussed on security as far as I can tell. I've got an idea that this can be achieved by using the Atlas APIs (confirmed by ChatGPT) but was wondering if this is something anyone else has done, if there is a sample app out there anywhere, or just if there's a better way of achieving our objective?
