Video Layout- show all participants

When we have a video call my team can see everyone on the call however I can only see the person actively talking during the call. I would like to be able to see all participants (we are a group of 3) at the same time. Anyone know how to change this?

  • Hi,

Normally you should see 4 video streams, but currently there is high impact on Teams services due to high usage so I guess this is causing this problem for you. I've seen this problem more in the Teams web application than the desktop, so if you are using Teams web app try to download the desktop client. https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads

Just to be sure make sure that you haven't pinned a video stream, right click on the video and see if you can select unpin.

As an instructor, I am able to view all the students( 16) in the class when they turn their camera on. We are supposed to record exam sessions. However, when the session is recorded( with all students on camera) the recorded video later shows only 9 students at a time. Instructors using Zoom have no such issues, Any suggestion would be appreciated,

I manage a global team of 7 developers and use Teams.  Until recently, it primarily worked fine (except for a little hic-up here and there).  As of last week, I noticed that I can only view 3 videos at the same time.  Many times the call starts with showing all 7, however, shortly after it only shows 3 even though everyone is broadcasting their video.

      Any ideas??

We need more than just 9, and we need it in the browser version.

Laura1750 Has anyone been able to make this work when using the web version of Teams?  Due to security concerns, my company will not permit remote use of the desktop version.

You can see only the person who is talking in the web version.

Laura1750 I'm having the same issue, and I only use the desktop version of Teams, not the browser version. I think it may be a bandwidth issue too, as I was on a call yesterday where at the beginning I could see the thumbnail videos of 3 participants, plus my own, as someone shared their desktop, but I clicked on another tab in Teams and then came back to my call, and at that point and for the rest of the call I could only see my own video and the person speaking, and I definitely didn't change any settings or pin any of the participants.

    • JennB I don't think it is an bandwidth issue. One video stream in full screen takes about the same amount of bandwidth as 4 smaller video streams. Could just be some temporary problem.

LinusCansby lol I'd just like to congratulate everyone for participating in the shared delusion that Microsoft is capable of doing anything like this well. M for Teams is about as useful as any other program or interface M creates - a clunky, unintuitive, overwrought imitation of what other more nimble and well run companies are doing light years better. What a joke.

Couldn't say it better. Just had a meeting with my students and I don't see them all. BigBlueButton does it automatically, Zoom has it easy accessible. And then comes Microsoft Teams and makes it a rocket science to search, find and use.

Hey linus, I've read multiple of your answers saying you roll out 9x9 (should have already happened)

In the meantime: is there a way to check which user has his webcam enabled?

      My case:

Class with 20 people. I can see the participants video when I pin his video. But I can't see who has it enabled. Our lecturer wants to see a face so he's not talking to a black screen. Only way so far is pinning someone and wait if there is a video. I need some sort of indicator who to pin without going trial and error. Do you have a way for that?

      • davkarh In general no, there isn't an indication who is sharing video or not, however when the 9 video layout is released this will prioritise people who are sharing video, people without video will just be listed across the bottom of the screen.

LinusCansby if there are more than 4 people on the call, is there a way to show everyone?  I can see all of the participants on the call, just not their faces if they have their cameras on.
