I'm having some trouble with the accuracy of my Skype for Business status.

When I locked my screen before installing Teams, my Skype for Business status would automatically switch to Away. Once I installed Teams, the status would stay Available until I had been inactive 5 minutes, then it would switch to Inactive. Even if I quit Teams, it would still stay Available after my screen had been locked. To test, I uninstalled Teams again, and instantly it started working as it did previously with Windows Key + L both locking my screen and setting my status to Away.

Any suggestions on what I can do? It's important for people to know I'm away as soon as my screen is locked. I've thought about just manually setting my status to Away, but I don't believe that shows how long I've been away, which is a feature I'd like to keep if possible.

Don't see why setting your status to away doesn't show how long? Wouldn't make sense if so.

Anyway, I agree with this gesture that it should go away soon as you lock your computer. Something maybe for user-voice, but to me it's kind of a functionality bug so..... if you had the time you could report to Microsoft support ticket, but since presence is now shared between platforms Teams can adjust presence just like Skype can so it being the prevalent app now it's going to keep it like that and it's probably due to the whole, sending your notification to your phone time out deal, but I don't see any negatives to that being on soon as you lock your machine.

Anyway, Maybe someone on the Team will see this post and add their feedback, I don't want to tag the ones I know to keep bugging them :).

Hey Chris,
I've tested today setting your status to away manually and it does in fact tell how long you've been away when you have 0 activity. So if you set it away, but your actively on your computer the time will stay at 0 or show no time away. Soon as you walk away or have 0 activity it'll start the timer, so the time does work when manually setting, you just have to actually be away not on your machine being active for the timer to count up. Slick little tattle teller!

Ah ok that makes sense! Thanks for looking into it! I guess I'll just manually set it for now. Or maybe I can set up some sort of macro...

For anyone interested, I was able to set up the macro through my keyboard's software:

Away (F6)

Windows Key + 3

Alt + F -> M -> A

Windows Key + L

Add .2 sec delays before “Left Windows up” and first “Alt down”

Available (F7)

Windows Key + 3

Alt + F -> M -> V

Windows Key + Down Arrow

Add .2 sec delays before “Left Windows up”, first “Alt down”, and 2nd “Left Windows Down”

@Chris Field

Macro?
What macro?

Windows Key + 3 opens Notepad for me, if that's what you mean! :cryingwithlaughter:

@RussBroom Sorry, I didn't think through that before posting. You have to make sure that Skype is pinned to your taskbar and that its position won't change. Make note of its place in the taskbar. In my case, Skype was the 3rd item from the left, which is why I did Windows Key + 3. For you, it sounds like Notepad is the 3rd icon, so that's why Notepad opens when you do Windows Key + 3. So just figure out which number represents Skype for you, and use that.

As far as macros go, I was using a Logitech keyboard that had software which allowed you to create macros and tie them to specific keys. So whenever I pressed the F6 key it ran my macro that essentially pressed all those keyboard shortcuts back-to-back, and same for F7.

Oh I see!
That probably won’t work for what I’m trying to do then (shared PC’s).
Thanks for the explanation though.

I would like to point out for anyone that sees this in the future that Teams no longer has this issue for me. I haven't needed to use the macro (see above) in several months.
