Using Apple Pencil will shut down RD client when connecting to the remote computer. This
situation happens after updating the app today.
@SherlockHomie are these issues specific to the most recent iOS RD Client version? or have they existed for a while? For (1) and (2) does 'Set Display Resolution' provide any help in Use features of the Remote Desktop client for iOS and iPadOS - Azure Virtual Desktop | Microsoft Lea...
For (3) Is the remote endpoint running Windows 10 or above? What endpoint are you connecting to?
Thanks
What is going on with this issue ? Any plans of resolving it ? The Apple Pen still doesn’t work in the app.
Surely they can revert back to ver .4.3 and fix the problem.
@SoupraTT What remote session are you connecting to? Pen is not supported on Win8/8.1/W2K12/W2K12R2
Hi @Bobo94 @SoupraTT @KeelySpicer @SherlockHomie @Sylvia_grady ,
Please let me know if you are connecting to a remote session that is Win8/8.1/Windows Server 2012/Windows Server 2012 R2. Those session hosts do not support pen input redirection. The development team is working on creating a fallback for those particular session hosts that emulates touch redirection if pen is not supported, it will be coming in the upcoming version release (therefore, restoring previous behavior). If you are occurring an issue with Apple Pencil when connecting to Azure Virtual Desktop session hosts, this could be a separate issue, so please let me know.
@js351,we have many employees who RD into Server 2012 R2. The Apple Pencil always worked until the recent update. The update came, and hundreds of people now can't use Apple Pencil in our environment. Why it would be removed from the new version when it worked fine in the last? Feels more like a bug.
And from what I understand, the remote computer you are connecting too has no idea if you are using an ipad, laptop, desktop, or telegraph, the code for the pencil is running on the local side not the remote side.
We have not had an update from MS on this issue for a month now. The issue is over 4 months old overall and still happening. MS asked if I was willing to do a call and responded affirmatively to the email, as directed. Can we please know the status? Are you still in "triage" mode? Is this too low a priority to get attention?
When are you planning to release the next version with the Apple Pencil correction? We are still waiting for your update on it.
thanks
@js351 also still waiting. Please update on status and if we can even expect this to be resolved at all?
@js351 John would appreciate your feedback please. Really frustrating.
Any updates on this?
Hi @KeelySpicer @Steve_Gavette @Williamw845 @Springbox @NorthernWill
The development team has triaged the issue and is working on creating a fallback for those particular session hosts that emulates touch redirection if pen is not supported (therefore, restoring previous behavior), it will be coming in the upcoming version release 10.4.6.
@js351 When do you estimate it to be released?
I downloaded the 10.4.6 beta and tested the pencil and it does indeed work! YAY! Now, when can we get it?
@Springbox @andreakbuss82 we are targeting release in Feb, if QA goes accordingly
Thanks @andreakbuss82 - It works perfectly from my end now. @js351 @Looking forward for the next release.
I just installed the beta and its working so far for me also. So great to have the pen back! Thanks to the MS Team! I will keep working with it to see how it performs.
Anyone else back to apple pencil not working on RD?
8/21/23.
Thanks
When I try to log in, I get the message that "RD Client" Beta has expired. So, I can't even get into it.
Neither the apple pencil or using fingers works for me. I am connecting to an Ubuntu 22.04 server and the responses seems to be somewhat random. I've tried using a Bluetooth mouse enabled for Adaptive Touch, the Apple Pencil, and my fingers, but none of these works.
Really confused because this would be probably the most critical thing to using an RDP client, being able to interact.
