Display Name for @mentions

When you put an @mention in a conversation, it replaces it with the display name of the user, which is their full name (first and last). This is a bit formal for the team chat - is there any way that we can change this so it shows just their first name? I don't want to change the Office365 accounts because the display name is sent out in emails so needs to be the full name.

Agree!

Re: Display Name for @mentions

I agree - this does seem too formal. Perhaps it can be optional in the same way as with Facebook where you can delete the surname if you wish

Re: Display Name for @mentions

This part is there. You can remove the last name (with a simple single backspace as well) and it still functions as normal. I don't mind it being an option, but I think there's quite a few other changes I'd like to see prioritized ahead of this.

Thanks Steven - really works. Moreover, you may change the full name after the @ on whatever you want (e.g. @Smith, John => @buddy)

Re: Display Name for @mentions

Could you explain? This doesn't make sense, and trying to accomplish whatever you are saying doesn't work for me. For example, a coworker goes by his short name Chris, not Christopher, which is the official O365 name for emails and what not. How would I shorten this? This makes no sense...
