Windows Office Hours is our continuing series of live Q&A for IT professionals here on Tech Community.
How does it work?
We will have a broad group of product experts, servicing experts, and engineers representing Windows, Microsoft Intune, Configuration Manager, Windows 365, Windows Autopilot, security, public sector, FastTrack, and more. They will be standing by here -- in chat -- to provide guidance, discuss strategies and tactics, and, of course, answer any specific questions you may have.
Post your questions in the Comments early and throughout the one-hour event.
Note: This is a chat-based event. There is no video or live meeting component. Questions and answers will appear in the Comments section below. |

Question about the change to New Teams: according to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-classic-client-end-of-availability, the classic Teams client will be uninstalled after 14 days. The article implies that would happen 14 days after install of New Teams, but we have users who've been on new Teams for a couple of months but classic Teams is still on the machines. Does this mean that classic Teams will be uninstalled 14 days after classic Teams end-of-life?
- Siocnarf1965Copper ContributorBut the machine wide installer won't be uninstall. This will need a distinc action from the organisations. Right?
- ScottslcCopper Contributorfollowing this one! Was asked this question today
- Laura_SteinCopper ContributorIt looks like we are not going to get an answer here today.
- HeyHey16KSteel Contributor+1 for this 🙂
- Johan_VanakenCopper ContributorFor Windows Update for Business, Firmware and Driver management have been added to the deployment service a few months ago. The deployment options are 'Automatic' or 'Manual' deployment, in a sense of an all-or-nothing approach for the 'Automatic' part. Are there any plans to further elaborate on this functionality, i.e. it would be great to have the option to choose 'Automatic' mode for specific Driver Classes, and 'Manual' for more sensitive classes like Firmware and network ?
- David_GuyerMicrosoft
Johan_Vanaken , expanding the options for what kind of drivers should be automatically approved, or excluded from automatic approval is something we are looking at. Some of the key things we are taking a closer look at are what fields or parameters would be best for autoapproval, as well as how reliable the data driving that is. Much of the info comes from the driver publisher and we don't have control over what they enter. We want a more-granular auto-approval capability to be both easy to use and reliable. Today, automatic approvals are for all driver publisher recommended drivers, meaning that these are drivers that if your device normally scanned for updates would be offered to the device, so in most cases, these are good drivers to have automatically approved. The Other drivers do require manual approval effort.
Hope that helps!
-David, Product Manager - Intune
- Nesav132Brass ContributorWe have a fair number of machines on Windows 10 and would like to gradually update them to Windows 11. Is there a setting in Intune that will allow the update to download only and not force install? I'm only seeing settings that will download and install.
- David_GuyerMicrosoft
Nesav132 , great question! We are actually in the final steps of completing adding an option to make the update optional to end users, and hoping you'll see that in Feature update policies in Intune in the next month or two. It won't pre-download the update, but will enable the end user to choose if they want to install it. Later, when you are ready to make it required for everyone, you can just change the setting in your policy, and it will become required for everyone who hasn't installed it yet.
-David
- Nesav132Brass ContributorThat's great, I'll watch for this in the next month or so.
- AriaUpdatedMicrosoftHey Melissa, do you really want device to not install the update or are you looking for a way to give users the ability to "seek" for the Windows 11 upgrade for some period of time before forcing it?
- Nesav132Brass ContributorI would love the ability to allow them to seek it and install when they are ready. That would be great. Can't seem to find how to allow that.
- EricMoeMicrosoft
When you create an Intune "Windows 10 or later updates" Configuration Policy for a deployment ring, you can set your Deadline for Feature Updates. This gives your users space between getting the content for the update and when a restart will be required (in days) to apply it. If you are looking to stagger across your environment, you should be using a ring-based approach, to cascade out at different start times to different device populations. Check out Configure Update rings for Windows 10 and later policy in Intune | Microsoft Learn for details on how to set up deployment rings that have different start times to help stagger your deployments to get an eventual rollout completed in your environment.
- Nesav132Brass ContributorThank you for this information, that is definitely helpful for putting a "this is going to happen" plan in place.
- Matt_CrawfordCopper ContributorIs there a plan in the pipeline to make Intune configuration policies a more like-for-like solution for GPO? I.E. will we ever have the capacity to easily update registry keys via a config policy like we could in GPO or is the ideal endstate for reg keys scripts and remediations?
- Matt_CrawfordCopper ContributorTo clarify, I understand ADMX exist in Intune. I'm thinking about easily being able to edit Reg Key's that don't exist in an ADMX. Similar to the registry editor in GPO. GPO Preferences.
- Joe_LurieMicrosoft
Matt_Crawford Dano talked about that as well.
- Joe_LurieMicrosoft
Matt_Crawford Dano answered this in the Windows management AMA here, at about the 22:50 mark. Make sure you watch the whole AMA. Lots of great info!
- Johan_VanakenCopper ContributorThe Edge Management Service (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-management-service) is a great new way to configure EDGE settings in the enterprise. However, it lacks features like reporting (graphs on nr of users in scope, settings applied, settings conflicts...) and analysis features (like Group Policy Results for GPO's). Unfortunately a roadmap for Edge Management Service is not available (anyway, CoPilot cannot find any 😉 ). Are any features like mentioned above foreseen for Edge Management Service in the future? Can you say anything on the roadmap of Edge Management Service?
- RichLoweCopper ContributorWhen can we expect App Attach to be in General release in AVD and also are there any plans for it to be manageable through Intune?
- Christian_MontoyaMicrosoft
RichLowe - Thanks for the question! I've forwarded to my team so they can provide the latest information here. Stay tuned!
- RichLoweCopper ContributorThanks Christian!
- JimMoyleMicrosoftApp attach GA will be withing the next couple of weeks, we're looking at Intune management, but no decisions have been made yet.
- reastman1966Copper ContributorI am looking for some insight on what could be happening with enrolling into Intune. This is for a few devices but have 500+ successfully enrolled in Intune and Autopatch. This is Auto Enrollment using GPO's Devices are Active Directory and Entra ID joined. Everything shows up fine in the Azure portal. Dsregcmd /status shows they are joined, and all the pertinent information is there. When I look at these devices in Intune, they are showing pending, and they are showing not registered in Autopatch. In Event Viewer Applications and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows/DeviceManagement-Enterprise-Diagnostics-Provider/Admin shows Event ID 75 What ends up in Intune All Devices Device name shows the user that enrolled then _Windows_date. It shows it is managed by Intune, Not evaluated, prirmay user and then Intune registered is Pending. Doesn't seem to matter how long or who logs into the device. The other issue I have is the IntundODCStandAlong.ps1 file has errors when it runs listed below PS C:\Users\Workday3941> wget https://aka.ms/intunexml -outfile Intune.xml PS C:\Users\Workday3941> wget https://aka.ms/intuneps1 -outfile IntuneODCStandAlone.ps1 PS C:\Users\Workday3941> powerShell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\IntuneODCStandAlone.ps1 At C:\Users\Workday3941\IntuneODCStandAlone.ps1:25 char:10 + b, + ~ Missing argument in parameter list. - AllieWolfOccasional ReaderI struggled with GPO based hybrid join for a bit. In my case it was licensing. Not every user in my org gets an F3 or higher so several devices were pending enrollment until a licensed user account logged into the machine. We purchased some stand alone Intune device licenses to make up the difference.
- Siocnarf1965Copper ContributorThe big question: Going to Windows 11 or wait until Windows 12?
- Joe_LurieMicrosoft
Siocnarf1965 Go to Windows 11. The EOL of Windows 10 is right around the corner on Oct. 14, 2025. Today we are not working on a Windows 12, despite what you've been reading in tech magazines and website. Please migrate to Windows 11 to make sure you stay up-to-date and secure.
