Outlook Android “Sync Contacts” disabled for Microsoft 365 Business Standard tenant
I am the Microsoft 365 tenant administrator.
Outlook and Authenticator work correctly on Android.
The “Sync Contacts” toggle inside Outlook is disabled/greyed out.
Native Exchange setup hangs on “Retrieving account information”.
No Intune license available (Business Standard tenant).
How can I enable Outlook contact synchronization with Android Contacts?

This usually happens due to tenant-level mobile application policies, Android contact permissions, or Outlook app restrictions tied to Microsoft 365 Business accounts. First, check whether contact sync is allowed in the Microsoft 365 admin or Intune policies, then verify Android permissions for Contacts are enabled for Outlook. Also try removing and re-adding the account after updating the Outlook app. We’ve seen some cases where organizational security policies automatically disable local contact sync on managed devices.

If Sync Contacts is grayed out, try to verify if the Contacts access is granted in Android settings, for Outlook application and also verify if there is any policy enforced to stop sync.
Hi there, have you tested the account on another Android to see if you get the same results? Could be something snaggy with the Android. There is also can option in the Android in the contacts area of the phone to turn on synching for accounts (I believe).

Hi There, thanks a lot for your replies. Just to let you know it was the energy saving option. When disabled this option the contact sync was possible again. A bit hidden as connection I wish android make it more clear, took quite an effort to understand and solve.
