OneDrive just opens JPG files others get error 0x80070185 cloud operation was unsuccessful
Hello everyone,
we have a problem on a Windows Server 2022 RDS Server with OneDrive.
I can login to OneDrive and see all my files.
When I try to open the files (e.g. PDF/Word/TXT) I get an error 0x80070185 the cloud operation was unsuccessful
When I try to open JPG files its working.
I can create folders and move files to this folder. The sync to my local notebook is ok.
I tried to reset OneDrive, no success
I installed the latest version of OneDrive, we checked the firewall (sophos) no blocked connections, we disabled the local AV software (sophos) to make sure it does not block anything, no success.
I reset OneDrive, deleted the App Data folder for OneDrive, deleted the OneDrive folder within my User Account.
It is still the same situation, login works I can see all my files and folders I can open JPG files but now word or PDF documents. I can create new folders and TXT files, fill them with content and its synced to OneDrive.
Suggested solutions found on the internet are all the same, using reset onedrive and re/install latest version.
We had version 26.119.0622.0003 and updated to 26.145.0728.0011
Has anybody another solution for that?
Best regards

Hello,
one of our users had that problem first.
I have never been connected to that RDS server with my regular user account. I logged in and could see the same problem.
To test the download and files I made what you suggestet. I downloaded the files through OneDrive in the Browser. I tried different document types like Word and PDF. Files are downloaded to the desktop and opened without problems.
When I try to mark files and folders as always keep on this device it is working for PNG files, even in subfolders. Its not working for the same word/pdf document I downloaded prior with the browser even if those files are just a few kb large.
The icons are changeing from the cloud to the circle. PNG files get the green check icon and can be opened then.
Best regards.
Successful uploads and a visible folder listing do not prove that OneDrive can download every file's contents on the RDS server. First compare the status icons of a working JPG and a failing document; the JPG might already be available locally. On one small failing file, choose Always keep on this device and wait for its status to change. If 0x80070185 occurs before the file becomes locally available, that points toward retrieval rather than a Word or PDF association problem. Separately, download the same file through OneDrive in the browser to a nonsynced local folder on that server and test opening it. Record both outcomes, the OneDrive version, and the failure timestamp for support. Since resets, reinstallations, and disabling Sophos have already failed, avoid further profile deletion and restore the protection you disabled. These comparisons should narrow the investigation without risking additional unsynced data.
