Teams Avatar missing in App
Hi,
The Teams Avatar for Teams and People do not show up in the Teams App (1.03.0.12058 64bit) on my Windows 10 Laptop, they do show up when I use Teams via Edge. Any ideas of what has happened or a setting that needs adjusting?
Paul_Savenije My problem is solved.
I had to call the support for another problem. Solving it made all the avatars come back in MS Teams.
My account had a problem with its roles.
I'm one of the admnistrators of my organisation, another admin messed up my roles. I had ALL roles activated.
One of them is "General Administrator" wich already gives all privileges.
Activating "General Administrator" + all the others roles caused a bug in MS Exchange.
To solve the problem, the support guy made me ask another admin to do these steps in the users administration panel:
- Open my user details.
- In the roles part, make my user a simple user (with no admin privilege) then save.
- Make my user admin back again, then choosing only the "General Administrator" role, and save.
This solved all my problems, wich were:
- Redirect loop while trying to connect to MS Outlook and MS Exchange with my browser.
- MS Teams App default avatars for all users and groups.
- MS Teams App critical slowdowns and crashes.
Hope this helps 🙂

Paul_Savenije Can you change it from Teams desktop to that one you have since it should sync across the Teams (desktop & Web) and also Sharepoint site.
So do change it from Teams desktop to your standard one and it should sync with all.
here is how to do it, Teams > My Playground > Manage team > Settings > Team picture > Change picture
please share your experience and comment if that resolves your issue.

Hi,
I try the following steps
1) Manage Team (My Playground is my test team)
2) Click on the picture to change it
3) Delete the Picture
4) Click Save - the MP Initials reverts to the Gray People Icon
5) If I Try Upload - the picture shows
6) Click Save and it reverts to the Gray icon
All my Teams Icons are the gray icon, same for all the people pictures they are also a gray icon.
On a Browser (Edge/Chrome/Firefox - all 3 tested) the Team Avatars and People Avatars show up correctly. Other users in the Tenant are not affected. I have deleted the Cache (All the files and folders in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Teams\).
Any other Thoughts?
Paul
- PDostiyarBronze ContributorHave you also try uninstalling MS Teams and removed all the app data and settings from registry.
Reboot and reinstall MS teams, This could resolved this issue.
- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaCopper ContributorIf you study the Screenshot of Paul_Savenije, then you can see, that he already changed successfully the Team picture.
Do you really guess that the synchronisation works if the picture is changed in the Windows App, but nut when changed otherwise?
In fact, it does not solve the problem.
- oliberuCopper ContributorHi,
I have exactly the same problem, and also tested various manipulations to solve it...
The problem came first on newly created groups, then to some users avatar. Day by day I were losing more avatars.
- Tried to reset Teams Cache (by deleting some folders): problem not solved.
- Tried to uninstall / reinstall Teams: problem not solved.
- Figured out uninstall had left some folders, uninstalled again, deleted remaining folders, reinstall: problem got WORSE, lost ALL avatars.
Some times while I'm in meeting and share my screen, some avatars come back in the floating meeting window, but once I stop sharing avatars disappear again...
I've searched all the Internet for a solution, I've found none...
Looks like Teams App tries to download avatars, but get 403 error.
Sometimes a "broken image" icon appears quickly before the gray one appears.
(I've seen that sometimes using teams in a browser, the console says 403...)- oliberuCopper Contributor

Thanks - that worked. A couple of extra steps I did helped
1) Make User Simple/Standard User - No Admin Roles
2) Sign out and Quite Teams
3) Clear my local Teams Cache
4) Launch Teams - All Good
5) Maker User Global Admin (If user does not need to be Global admin, only assign required Admin roles)

1. Go to settings.
2. Change the language to any other
3. Click Save and restart
4. The avatars display properly
5. Change back the language to Yours
