Proximity join doesn't work from Teams Desktop app

Hi all,

We have been testing / piloting the Poly Collaboration Bars X30 & 50 for months and now rolled out the devices in over 80 (!) meeting rooms over the last 2 weeks.
Since last week, all of a sudden the proximity join feature does not work anymore. After trouble shooting, we observed that it is also not working on collaboration bars of yealink, thus there seems to be a problem with the teams client / cloud...
Any ideas, resp. did you experience the same issue?!

It's kind of working on my end. I see a very small number of rooms in the pre-join menu. It is indicating that some are proximity, but it definitely isn't showing the entire list of available rooms in our building, so that still super annoying. And the search doesn't bring up the rooms now originally listed either. So, there's progress, but still has a ways to go.

Yes, I still have a couple of Crestrons that aren't seen as being nearby but can be found in the list

We are also seeing this issue with our Logitech Tap room systems. I thought it was just me, and the Teams support team doesn't seem to have any idea that this is an ongoing issue... I hadn't spent much time looking online, but I've been dealing with a support engineer on it since February and am tired of the back and forth with no progress, so I found this post.

Glad I'm not alone, but it's unfortunate that it is taking this long to get resolved and that internal support people don't actually know about it.

  • BroGale We have been using different Rooms Systems, also Poly X50, and have run into the same problems. 14 days ago my Windows Teams Client could do a Proximity join but others had problems. In the last week or so my Teams Client also failed, probably after an update. Today I tried to select About, Public Trial Version, and after that everything works again. The Teams Client version is 1.4.00.4167

Still completely broken, you have to be inside of 12inches of the device for it to show up in the Rooms list. Not even remotely functional, fix it please. Version 1.4.00.9773

I can also confirm that with version 1.4.00.8872 this is unusable due to way to short range. I have to balance the PC right on top of the Logitech Tap system to be able to connect after a while. We also use a Crestron Flex that have the same issue. Please, please, please go back with the setting to be able to sit anywhere in the room and connect to the system.
  • As several replies here have noted, we have identified an issue that impacts the desktop client when attempting to find a Teams Rooms device. The beacon is being transmitted correctly from the room device, but the desktop client sensitivity has changed which requires that the laptop be placed extremely close (inches) from the room device to recognize it. We are working on a fix for this right now.
We have also identified a related issue with room search, which broke the search experience in the pre-join screen. This issue is also being investigated now.
When we have an ETA for the release of these fixes, I will share the update here.
Thank you for your patience with this issue.

Hey Greg, I am having trouble with this issue at work. I have been able to find the cause of the problem and i am able to reproduce this problem on every Laptop.

I just have to disable bluetooth in windows, then try to join a meeting. After this i will not be able to find a room in teams. Not after restart of both teams and the laptop.

It seems that if you try to find a room in teams with bluetooth disabled(in windows) something breaks.

I hope you can fix this soon!

Our company current has a Premier Support ticket with Microsoft on this. They are currently advising that the updated Teams desktop app containing the fix should be entering Ring 4 in the next week or so.

One thing you will find out about the Microsoft Teams support team is that they do nothing and I mean nothing quickly. I currently have another issue with them opened up on a partner support ticket going on 4 months now and they haven’t started even troubleshooting it yet.

BroGale I'm on 64 bit version 1.4.0.0.8872, no proximity join and no rooms search functionality on Windows. Proximity and Room search works fine on iOS devices, so a desktop app issue. I've tried it with and without public preview mode.

Why hasn’t Microsoft even acknowledged this as an issue yet, like on a wider scale. You would think this would be all over the internet when searching for it. It’s literally almost impossible to use a team room currently do to the recent break in the software. Sure you can just send an invite from the room or do it from outlook, but if any guest or person wants to quickly share a screen from it, it is such a hassle to do that your better off just airplaying or miricasting it.

We also have the same issue with the Poly X30 & X50 collaboration bars. Proximity Join isn't working.

Just updated to Version 1.4.00.7174 today and the issue is still present. No options in the pre-join menu for rooms.
  • BroGale This is not a known issue and we test proximity join very extensively with each firmware update. Regardless, we are committed to supporting proximity join and I am sure we can remedy this issue very quickly.  Could you provide some more information: model/make of the collaboration bars, the Teams version they are running, firmware version, and what device you are using to test proximity join (mobile/desktop)?  Feel free to message me directly and I'll be able to personally look into this issue.

Hi Pavel Yurevich  I'm a coworker of BroGale and i can share some additional details of this problem. We deployed around 60 collaboration bars and 30 Teams Rooms of different vendors, and our users relying heavily on the proximity join feature in all of these rooms. It stopped working on all computers on all MTRs and Collab Bars at the same time. The issue also happens if i use a non-corporate-pc (bring your own laptop) and on the mobile apps on android and iphone. Bluetooth is clearly working because it detects the room if you search manually a room device:

However, when i join a Live Event in Teams, proximity join is working! It also works when i disable this setting in teams: "Turn on new meeting experience (New meetings and calls will open in separate windows. Requires restarting Teams.)"

      Live Event Producer Join

I think Live events are working because they are still using the old meeting join appearance.

I will send you a full list of all MTRs and Collaboration Bars and the MS Case number of our open Case.

If I understand it correctly it only applies to PC's and not mobile devices?

Did not read it well also mobile devices.

Hi, I have tested it with a Poly Studio X30 and a mobile phone. But I do not experience any problems at this point.

    Used versions.
    Collaboration bar:

    Teams Version 1449/1.0.96.2020102101

    Mobile app:
    Microsoft Teams Version 2.2.1

  • I guess this been working before with the same devices? And you have checked that you have bluetooth activated on your laptop and that you are using 64-bit Teams client? Have you tested with different laptops too?
