Bluetooth audio out stops when using Teams
Hi everyone.
I have a pair of Taotronics Soundliberty 79 earbuds. They've pair fine with my laptop running Win 10 and work for listening to music. I've also tested joining a Google Meets meeting and audio works fine in both directions.
However, when I join a MS Teams meeting after a minute or two I can no longer hear audio through my earbuds, but the microphone continues to work and others can hear me. I need to go to device settings in Teams and switch to PC speaker/mic then back to the earbuds to restore audio which only lasts a couple of minutes before dropping out again.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to resolve this?
I've been criticizing Microsoft for owning the problem and doing nothing about it. I did follow the suggestion from Sven and updated the driver for my Intel Wireless Bluetooth device. With driver version 22.20.0.3 - 2020-11-27 the problem seem to be there no more.
With that I was wrong in my opinion that Microsoft is to blame for the issue and that you deliberately would ignore the problems caused. I apologize for that.
kind regards
T

derekjwhitten I came across this thread due to the fact I am currently using TaoTronics SoundLiberty 79 as well. However, I have been experiencing this issue for a very long time over different types of laptops and headphones. All laptops are windows 10 based. The headphones are the above mentioned, Sennheiser Urbanite XL Wireless, and Libratones. The issue goes back to 2018. All MS Teams related issues.
Issue appears as following. I am into a meeting or a call. Selected drivers are the Handsfree options, obviously to catch all sorts of noice. However, after a while. It may be 2 minutes, or more, just the sound stops working. I can only switch back to the Laptop audio to keep using the headset microphone. Another option is to use just the stereo driver and fall back to the laptop microphone. Both options are not ideal. I feel like it must be an MS Teams issue. But I could wrong.
I found other threads on different platforms that recommend all sorts of different solutions, but none seem to be the solution for me. Here are some of my findings:
Bluetooth driver:
Check whether this is the correct driver for you. Some mentioned that the bluetooth driver version 22 should resolve the issue. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/30121/Intel-Wireless-Bluetooth-for-Windows-10
Bluetooth driver 2:
You find the description of what could be driver related unter solution #2. https://appuals.com/bluetooth-headset-not-working-with-microsoft-teams-on-windows-10/
None of them were fixing my issue. Perhaps, others are luckier.
- Thelesnesman76Copper ContributorI had this same issue while using Aukey EP-T21 bluetooth headphones. I downloaded the Intel driver above & was able to connect to teams WITH audio! We'll see if this continues to work.

Thank you, I've had a lot of trouble with this and for me it seems that updating the driver for Intel Wireless Bluetooth device solves the problem. I updated from 21. something to the 22.20.0.3 released 2020-11-27 and after that I have not yet experienced any dropped audio during teams meetings.

Same issue here with JBL speaker. Looks like this is going on almost a year with no resolution. Will monitor posts here.

Hi, i am also having this or a very similar issue.
I have two audio devices I use with my computer, a pair of headphones(plugged into the analogue headphone port) and a bluetooth speeker. i have set my bluetooth speaker to be my default microphone for the computer and to output only spotify. and to use my headphones for all other sound output.
When I turn on my computer, Spotify will correctly output on the bluetooth speeker and i can listen to youtube/discord through my headphones.
When i open teams, everything is still all working fine. Until i open a call/meeting, then the bluetooth speeker stops outputing spotify even though in sndvol.exe still says that there is sound going to the speaker from spotify. the microphone will still work on the bluetooth speaker and my headphones will still correctly output teams. and when i switch spotify to output in the headphones, that will work.
Please fix.

derekjwhittenI have same problem with my JBL Xtreme 2, it works for some minust untilt it fails and audio stop working, i have to select local PC speakers and then go back to JBL which not everytime works again until i turn off and on again the JBL.
I only have this situation on TEAMS, Zoom works great and normal Skyepe too, also only on Windows as when i am using mobile app from android it did not happend.
I strongly belive it is a windows/TEAMS issue, I hope Microsoft work into it to fix this problem ASAP.

derekjwhitten Hey everyone! So I think I have a work around, its been working today since I've tried.
I have a pair of bose 700s but this should work for any wireless headphones.
Go to your sound settings and set the laptop speakers as default.
Anytime a sound comes through while you are in a teams call it'll then go through your computer speakers instead of your headphones, which I believe was the issues, cutting out audio from my call. while the teams audio stays in your headphones, make sure in teams though, you have your audio set as your headphones, since your headphones are no longer default it might go through your computer! Good luck!
Also deleted skype for business but I don't think that had anything to do with it. - mypitmanCopper Contributor
derekjwhitten I've had this exact same issue when on MS Teams from my PC. All plugin headphones I've used haven't had this issue so it's got to be a bug with the product.

I have the same issue, expect with Harman Kardon Onyx 4. At precisely 10 min (to the second) the sound output will stop but the mic from the speaker will still work.
If I switch my output to my laptop speakers, I get sound again.
If the call ends and I play music, youtube, etc., the Harman Kardon works again. This happens on both Teams and Zoom.
Looking at other threads, it's as if the speaker goes into headset mode but erroneously doesn't detect any sound (even though it's an active conference call) so it goes into standby mode.

derekjwhitten, I'm with you on this. I have the same exact problem with my Taotronics 79 earbuds. I'm lucky to get anywhere between 4-6 mins of audio time before it cuts out. I used to use an old school plantronics headset with zero issues, but the headset is the most uncomfortable for someone who wears glasses, thus the switch to earbuds.
I am on at least 2-3 Teams meetings a week, with the daily catch up with colleagues throughout the day, so this dropping crap is not acceptable. I can't find a good workaround this problem.
- pflariniCopper ContributorSame problem here with JBL Flip4. After 30-40 minutes the device turns off, even in a call.
When listening musing with groove, for example, it never turns off. - JuanitoCiscoCopper Contributor
Today I started using my TT earbuds and I encountered exactly the same issue. In my case I could find a way of keep using them with smooth sound BUT I closed Teams on the PC. After closing it I selected this option
(EarTrumpet context menu)
and the sound never stopped again. But in the moment I switched to the alternative Free AG Audio, the problem started again (even with Teams closed). I never needed to reboot the PC. So I don't know if it is software related or some hardware compatibility issue.

JuanitoCisco I'm having the same problem with Surface Headphones 2. The issues manifests itself in two ways:
- When you're listening to music in another app and a notification from Teams pops up (e.g., someone has started a meeting), Teams takes over the Bluetooth connection, stopping audio from other apps, and plays the meeting notification sound. It doesn't give audio back to other apps for ~10 seconds. If I'm using a headset not connected via Bluetooth, the meeting notification sound will play over the top of any other audio without interrupting it.
- If you're in a Teams call, you can't hear the audio from anything else (notifications, other apps, etc.)
- Chips_ChallengeCopper ContributorBased on what you said here, I tried enabling "Focus Assist" in the Notifications tab, set to "Priority Only". I also went into settings for Focus Assist and unselected all the apps that were defaulted to be Priority. After I did that, my audio stayed on for the whole meeting. So far so good.
