File >Print experience from 365 web apps (other than Excel)
Are there plans to bring the same File >Print experience from the Excel web app to the other 365 web apps (e.g. Word) for printing to universal print cloud printers? Choosing the print option from Excel produces a sidebar with a drop-down selector that shows every Universal printer the user has access to. There's no need to add the printer to the host OS first. In contrast, choosing File >Print from the Word web app renders a PDF and then uses the browser's native print UI to select from a choice of local-only printers. There is no option to access cloud printers unless they've first been added to the local system. On a Windows device this is merely an inconvenience but on a ChromeOS device this means the difference between being able to print and not. There is a work around available, you can use the OneDrive web client to print a Word document. The OneDrive web client does at least offer the ability to search for (and print to) any the Universal printers you have access to, and does not first require they be configured as local printer. But the UI is objectively worse than the Excel print UI which will show you your entire list of available printers. The OneDrive web client requires that you know a portion of the device name to first perform a search for it. The Word web app doesn't even give you that option, there's no option to print to a cloud printer. The Excel print UI needs to be incorporated into any/all of the 365 web apps that support printing.GMulhernMay 19, 2025Copper Contributor31Views0likes1CommentUniversal printer says installed, but not in printer list
Hi, I had a universal printer but change the properties to colour. So I deleted the printer on a device to re add but now I cannot add it back, it reports its installed but does not appear in the printer list. Any ideas? tried looking at registry keys to remove but no luck.Solvedchiners_68May 19, 2025Brass Contributor10KViews0likes12CommentsUniversal Print for not Domain Joined Windows Computer
We are currently in the process of making Universal Print available at our University. Administrative Staff and Faculty Members can already benefit from UP - especially sending print jobs while users are not connected to our core network is much appreciated. Computer for these users are managed by Intune and member of our domain. Roll-Out happened with Intune Device Configuration and is working mostly well. Our Students come with their own personal/private computer (BYOD). These devices are NOT managed by Intune and are NOT member of our Windows Domain. When they come with an Apple macOS device, they can easily install "Universal Print" from Apple App Store and are ready to got - perfect. BUT, when my students come with a Microsoft Windows computer, they cannot take advantage of UP, because UP would only work, if they login to Windows with their University M365 account. It is ridiculous, that Microsoft punish users of their own operating system harder then Apple macOS users. Have anyone found a solution for this type of scenario? We deploy printers with Intune. It works well. But how do we remove a printer from a client PC after is it decommissioned and physically removed? It does not seem to be removed when not published with Intune anymore? Is a Powershell script needed to remove the Printer and corresponding Port??HenEMay 16, 2025Copper Contributor58Views0likes1CommentUniversal Print Client for IOS based devices
Is there a private preview for the Universal Print Client for IOS devices? We have rolled out the universal print to our Windows and Mac devices. With this done, I was now wanting to be able to see if there was a way to get on a private preview for testing out IOS devices with the universal print client on it. My apologies for the long scenario explanation. We configured a UP compatible printer for UP per the "Universal Print Guided Simulation" example (https://regale.cloud/Microsoft/viewer/1265/universal-print/index.html#/0/0) we obtained from the print.microsoft.com website. We followed the guided simulation (including the Endpoint Manager configuration (including everything in section 3) to configure UP and the printer. Testing was perfect. I was able to print from OneDrive on the Web to the remote printer. However, I tested with an user account with the 'Global Admin' role. As soon as I tested printing from OneDrive on the Web with a user that is not a 'Global Admin', the following screen is displayed Has anyone experienced this?Solvedjbush1120May 13, 2025Copper Contributor2.6KViews1like8CommentsRicoh Devices - Cannot MS UP and PrintUp after wake?
Greetings, We have configured a few (3) of our Ricoh devices for MS Universal Print. Printing works OK. The next day after returning to the office - if we print - the print job fails to output on the printer. When I check the Print Up app on the device - it doesn't show as active. I log in to the device MOP as admin - open the Print Up app - and all is good. We can print again. That is, until the next day. The device does sleep after a period of time. Ricoh support has disabled the hard sleep. Is this a common problem? Anyone have a solution that we might try. I appreciate any help.SolvedFloyds_on_GreenwoodApr 30, 2025Brass Contributor2KViews0likes5CommentsQuestion: What is the behind-the-scenes process when a network printer is installed?
Quick background: I work for an MSP providing Tier I support to Ricoh printers at a large healthcare facility. The enterprise has not moved to Universal Print - yet. I want to better understand the end-to-end process as it is now as I'm sure it will help me when the client begins to adopt Universal Printing. We have a mix of Windows 10 and 11 computers. They still use a print server and I recently had most of the Ricoh printers on it updated so they are associated with the PCL6 V4 Universal Print Driver from Ricoh. There are still a few left with either model specific V3 PCL drivers or the PCL6 Universal Print Driver (which is V3, too). However, the only V4 drivers on the computers are those built into the OS - Point and Print or Enhanced Point and Print from Microsoft. Users aren't allowed to install print drivers from Windows Update. Here's what I think is the process behind-the-scenes: User navigates to Printers & Scanners and clicks Add Printer. User selects the printer and it's installed. The print driver for that printer is associated by the OS searching in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository for a folder (either oem..... or prnms.......) that is the most compatible. Hopefully its a driver from Ricoh (in my case) but it may be the Microsoft Point and Print driver. When the user attempts their first print with the new printer, some of the contents of the folder above (DLL files primarily) are moved or copied [I'm unsure which] to C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3. I think this is how it works for both V3 and V4 print drivers but would like clarification. I'm aware that the INF file is copied to C:\Windows\INF, and that CAB files for at least some of the installed printers are located in C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\PCC. I don't understand the purpose for either of these. As for the process as I described it above, I'd appreciate any and all feedback so that I can better understand the process.Mike6877Apr 23, 2025Brass Contributor35Views0likes0Comments
