Replacing a 2012r2 DC with a 2022 DC
Hi, I have a DC running on 2012r2 (where FSMO resides) and also on 2016 as a backup (2012 schema of course). I’m planning on demoting the 2012r2 DC and promoting a 2022 DC in its place. The new server is already spun up and has been added as a third DC, I just need to turn the old one off. When I’m done I’d like the new 2022 DC to have the same IP as the old one so I don’t have to run around my (admittedly small) network repointing any confused machines to it. Here’s my game plan: (We’re fewer than 100 users and I’ll be doing this on a weekend … already warned people things may be down temporarily.) Move FSMO from DC2012r2 to DC2016 Demote DC2012 and turn it off. Change the IP of DC2022 to match what DC2012 was. Move FSMO to DC2022. Upgrade the schema to 2016. Any steps you people, with way more knowledge of DCs than I, see that I’m missing? Thanks, JeffRe: Office 365 Outlook with Exchange / Kerio Connect problem synchronization big mails
I think it was a Kerio/GFI response to a Microsoft problem. Ages ago they were getting reports of Outlook users crashing when dealing with messages over 25MB. In fact, I've had Microsoft people explicitly tell me, via the Feedback Chat Window, that this, indeed, is an issue. Not sure about the "New Outlook" but it's irrelevant at this point since it doesn't support on-premise Exchange, which is how Kerio looks to it. So, they (Kerio/GFI) put a hard 25MB limit on messages. There is a setting in mail server.cfg but it's not officially sanctioned so it may make things buggy. Hi, Does anyone actually have an installation of outlook 16.48 or higher on MacOS 10.14 or higher, in which searching for text appearing in the message body actually returns in the message results? Choose any email, copy a string of text from the message body that does not appear in the subject, paste it into the search field and hit return. Neither the email from which I copied nor any other with that phrase is returned. We have about 60 installs of Office. Once we upgraded them to 16.48, searching on message content no longer works. Searching subject, to, cc, any other header data works fine. This is across OSs (10.14-11), across Office versions (16.48 and above). Office has been removed, reinstalled, new profiles made, drives reindexed, permissions verified; we've tried exchange, imap, and pop accounts. It simply does. not. work. I spent months go back and forth with Microsoft and in the end they tried to say, in effect, "not our problem if spotlight isn't working right; that's Apple's fault." Well, regardless the technology you are using to power your search function, if it's not working, that IS your problem. I just want to know if this is planet-wide or our five dozen machines are just that unlucky. Thanks, Jeff792Views0likes0CommentsTeams for Mac Arbitrarily Requiring Microsoft Login
Hi, We're on Mac. We have Office installed but Teams isn't part of it; we need to install that separately. The staff doesn't use OneDrive or anything like that, I only need to set them up with Microsoft accounts for software licensing purposes. Most don't even know their Microsoft passwords. The whole office (40 ppl) is watching a webinar. The presenter wanted to use Teams. We normally use Zoom, but fine, I installed it on all machines. No login was necessary on a couple test machines I did last week. A few of the people are now being asked to log in, either with my credentials or their own. No idea why, but we really just wanted to watch a webinar and it's ridiculous to need a login unless you're presenting something or engaged in a conversation. So, we set up the presentation on one machine in our Library space so those who couldn't connect could sit and watch it. With masks on. Fun! Why would teams decide some people need a login and some do not? There is no difference in the "type" of user except for me (admin) and, like I said, even I didn't need to log in. computerninja Spent two hours the other day with a user's MBP trying to unravel this. Finally got it working by deleting every single "teams" file and folder on the machine (searching both root and user's library with EasyFind), then deleting and remaking her Microsoft account and re-activating her apps and installing teams (fortunately we host our own email server). I am not positive which step finally did it, as she needed her computer back and in the end I was trying everything under the sun in rapid succession. Thanks, Jeff133KViews1like2Comments
