Dropbox Migration apparently completed but stuck finalizing

Copper Contributor

I have successfully migrated user folders and two library folders from Dropbox to Sharepoint with no errors. But I have two migrations left, the largest of the set (660GB and 220GB) which showed Completed and are now showing 'Finalizing', and have been on finalizing for over 48hrs now.

There are some failures (169 files out of 180,000 copied). I am not sure if that is the reason finalising has not finished?

I am not sure how to proceed now.  (I am a very novice 'in house' sharepoint admin!)

thanks in advance

I assume you are using the SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT), it's very buggy. I've had that exact issue MANY times before, my solution was (back then) starting the migration again. I never did one from Dropbox, but from file shares.
Yes, if that's what the online tool is called. My only 'real world' issue is that I can't see the list of files that failed to copy (downloading a report only gives me the scan report it seems, maybe because it hasn't finalised?). Otherwise all seems ok, so I'm tempted just to leave it.
This is already the second run, I had the finalizing issue last time too. Both times no issues were detected at the scanning stage, so I'm at a loss to know why 169 files didn't copy or why isn't finalizing.

@keithp1860 Ouch 2nd run also an issue.  I wonder what the issue is, I would say open a support ticket, but they will probably take weeks to help you resolve 😞 maybe someone else on this forum has a better idea.

I completely deleted the previous site (I was partly testing anyway, as I am a Sharepoint newbie).
Just in case it is related, searching my libraries on line is returning no results. I don't know if it is a related issue. I have attempted to search for a file in a folder that I can see on screen, using just the filename in the search bar, also filename:test.ext, filename:"test.ext" etc. no results. I have made no modifications to Sharepoint, because frankly I wouldn't know how to. Wondering as the sites are newly populated via the migration if they need time to index but seems a bit odd.

EDIT:

The default Document library is searchable.

The two new libraries I created on the site are not searchable. They are also the two with finalizing issues.

Yeah, the index would take some time, especially the number of files you mentioned you moved. I would give it at least a week before relying on search. You can also "kindly" 🙂 ask the site or library to be indexed. But it's all just a "wait for the index" to happen kind of thing.

Just to follow up, I opened a support case with MS, got a response very quickly actually. However neither of the two agents I’ve had contact with had any explanation. Nor did either of them know what is actually happening during ‘Finalization’, so we don’t know if it is important that it completes. Meanwhile, search is now working (presumably because the new folders have now been indexed) and everything *appears* to be working as expected. 10 days on, and it’s still Finalizing!! 😂

10 days on and still finalizing, how ridiculous is that tool, honestly, and support not even being able to help, that's crazy. Glad your index/search is finally working 🙂

We have two support tickets with MS, one with regards to Viva Engage and another Mass Delete Policies, all of which have been with MS support for weeks (Engage over a month). Guess the support folk don't always know how the products really work 🤣
