Hello,
I assume that Newsfeed and Discussion boards are not recommended to implement the forum functionalities in SharePoint currently.
Can you please share How to implement forum/discussion functionalities without Microsoft Teams/Yammer in M365?

@Dave8465 the only two tools that could do this function, it is Either Yammer or Teams that will do this function as you said none of them I wonder if there is anything else that could do that.
besides with current updates and changes you are now even able to do discussion and comments on word, excel and any other documents which are shared.
