Screen share only works for Caller, not Callee

Recently, we've found if you call someone in Teams, you can share your screen with them, but they can't share with you.  When the Callee tries, it just shows their icon and black background.  I called someone the other day and when he tried to share, I could only see his screen if I clicked away from the chat. Then, the thumbnail in the upper left would show his screen.  But if I clicked on that to make it full screen, it would go back to just his picture and a black background.  Users are a mix of Mac and Windows.  The problem only occurs when it's a 2 person call.

As an experiment, I just replicated the problem with someone else.  When we tried to add someone else to the call, all of a sudden I could see the screen they were trying to share, even though the person they called didn't actually respond.

KCBaltz This may be what we have also identified as an issue. I opened a support ticket with MS today. This is what we have identified. For non-Global Admin users it does not load the screen share automatically in CHAT when someone initiates a call/share to them. Global Admins do not have this problem when someone calls/shares to them (it immediately loads the other user's screen share). The only solution for the non-admin user is once the share starts they have to click twice on the other user's profile thumbnail to get the share to come up. It's like it is minimized when the share starts and needs to be toggled to come up on the main window. So to be specific, when the screen share starts the user only sees the other user's profile pic on the main window and on the bottom right under the main window they will see the thumbnail image of the other user's profile picture. They have to click on that thumbnail picture TWO times to get the screen share to load in the main window. This ONLY happens in chat screen sharing for non-Global Admins. This does NOT happen for any users in MEETINGS. I'll post an update if I am given a solution by MS.

No, I haven't seen this problem in a long time and I don't recall implementing any particular fix. I'm not sure what resolved it for me.

I haven't personally run into this in a while, but I'm hearing people I work with say it still happens intermittently. I'm not aware of a solution.

I have the same issue but it's the other way around, so when I make the call they can share their screen but I can only see it in the thumbnail as once I click to make it full screen it goes black. But when they call me the problem is solved so no issue there.

Has a fix or cause of this problem been found?

I've exactly the same issue KCBaltz . Using MacBook Pro but was working fine until recently.  Disappointed that a solution wasn't obvious in the answers just yet.  Did you manage to solve this?

Version of my client: 1.3.00.9271.  Teams says that's the latest when I tell it to check for updates.  This is on Mac.

    • Hi KCBaltz

It could be an issue on the other users network due to which you were not able to see the screen. For Testing Purpose I would recommend you to perform the following steps:-

      1. In the Microsoft Teams Client make a call to an internal user part of your organization and then ask the person to share the screen. You should be able to view the screen by default in the scenario as this is an inbuilt feature of Microsoft Teams

      2. In the Microsoft Teams Client make a call to an external user not a part of your organization and then ask the person to share the screen. In this case it could work and in case the admin of the other organization has restricted the feature then you cannot view the external users desktop.

Let me know if the above response answers your query.

      With Regards,

      Satish U

RealTime_M365 So I have the same issue with Microsoft Teams. When I call someone in teams, I can share my screen with them. But they(the callee) cannot share their screen with me. And I also don't have someone outside of my organization to call (i.e. an external callee). There has to be some sort of bug in teams.
