Is it possible to restore deleted files?
Hi, I received a notice that my free OneDrive is almost full. So I deleted a lot of files from my OneDrive to find out they vanished from my computer as well. How is it possible? Isn't it supposed that the cloud saves copies of the data on my computer? I also cleared the OneDrive recycle bin. Is it any chance to restore my files? Can I do it if I get subscription, e.g. for one month? Thanks in advance for help.Files shared with Anyone sometimes prompt users to request acccess to the file
My company is experiencing an intermittent problem where sometimes a OneDrive for Business file shared with the setting "Anyone with this link can edit" prompts the user the file is being shared with to request access. If the user tries to open the file a second time, they can then access the file without requesting access. We're wondering why that access request prompt sometimes happens and how to prevent it. It doesn't happen consistently, so we're having trouble reproducing and troubleshooting it. Has anyone seen this before and know how to fix it?
OneDrive stuck on "signing in"
Hi, I'm trying to use Onedrive and Onenote, but it seems to be really terrible 50% of the time. Sometimes when I log on my pc, it says I have to log in, and in doing so, is stuck on a "signing in" loop, until it says some error code about me not having an internet connection. Here's what I've tried: 1. Close and open Onedrive 2. Removing auth from the pc and adding it again 3. Reinstalling Onedrive 4. Change Wi-Fi 5. Do a /reset in Windows run AND cmd 6. Update drivers 7. Install the newest Onedrive from the website 8. Try the app-version found in Windows Store What am I supposed to do? I don't want to restart my pc every time it doesn't work, that's a terrible fix.OneDrive folders when switching to a new computer
Hi All Let me first explain what I have setup I have created my OneDrive on my computer to sync only selected folders to my SD card. (Many reasons and I have found this very useful) I customized the OneDrive location using this article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/install-onedrive-on-an-external-drive-6307e24b-d7a4-493f-bf43-47345b2c11fe I now have a new computer and will be just moving this SD card over and all my data should be there and ready to go. I have only selected some of the OneDrive folders to sync and of them some of it is made locally available so I can work on them even if I am off line (like traveling on a plane with no internet) or am in the woods or very remote locations where I get no connectivity. Now to the question I plan to setup my new computer with the SD card and hopefully can follow the article (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/install-onedrive-on-an-external-drive-6307e24b-d7a4-493f-bf43-47345b2c11fe) and once more link up the SD card (with all the information it has locally) Where does Windows 10/OneDrive store information about which are the folder I have selected and what to do with them? I cannot find this information and maybe I do not need it - unsure about this. If I do as stated in article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/install-onedrive-on-an-external-drive-6307e24b-d7a4-493f-bf43-47345b2c11fe with the old SD card in my new computer will I be up and running or is there something I should follow to make this work well. Remember I cannot have the SD card in two locations to know the information. Any guidance or pointers from any one who has done this would be very helpful. I wish MS helps people who want to customize or adapt things by giving more clear instruction on how they design or document so people can customize. I struggle with this and how MS does their software. While on OneDrive - anyone written batch files on the computer to create onedrive folders, then share it with users along with setting expiration dates? These can be done on the browser, but one folder at a time with clickoholic interface and it gets repetitive very quickly if you have to do this for 40 students every semester - Of course MS has not way of doing this at all (at least to my knowledge and my reading)
Shortcuts to Folders Synced Between Two Computer Desktops
I have OneDrive installed on a work desktop and a laptop I use at home and when traveling. I sync the desktop between both machines. I want to have a shortcuts on my desktops that open OneDrive folders. This previously worked fine for me. But I recently had to reinstall OneDrive and I am unable to configure it properly now. The shortcut works on one machine or the other, but not both. If I create the shortcut on the desktop it works correctly there, but not on the laptop. If I create it on the laptop, it won't work on the desktop. The failing "folder" looks like this: Because the file path is slightly different (because of unique usernames) I tried using a variable instead: "C:\Users\%username%\OneDrive - Company Name\Work Files" But that still didn't solve the problem. Can someone help me understand what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance!
".tmp.driveupload"
I am having an issue where my word doc (set to autosave to OneDrive business desktop app) on my PC is suddenly saved in a ".tmp.driveupload" folder online under a different file name (random numbers), with autosave switched off. If I do not notice this happening, the change to the document is not saved under the expected folder and file name, resulting in no change made to the file I opened. The only workaround I've found is to "save a copy" and overwrite the file I opened in the original folder. This only works if I notice the sudden name change and file save in the tmp folder. If I don't, the changes are lost because the tmp file is deleted (to recycle bin) on exit and the tmp folder is not synced to my PC. I have to go online to the OneDrive business website, guess which file it may be, restore that from the OneDrive recycle bin, and hope it is the file I was looking for. The frequency of this happening means that there are numerous tmp files under pseudo file names to scour through. One-hour plus on the phone with MS Office subscription support is of no help.OneDrive addmitting losing gigabites of content
I've been using OneDrive since it was called Windows Live SkyDrive, circa 2010. After years of using it as an archive for past projects (I'm a graphic designer), I've recently discovered that almost every single project I had there (and nowhere else) has disappeared. In reply, OneDrive escalation representative said “There is no possibility for recovering the data. Trust me, if there had been a single percentage of chance, I would have taken it”. This is unheard of; I’ve lost a large portion of my portfolio from 2012 to 2021. Did it happen to anyone else?
Missing OneDrive options in classic context menu - Windows 11 24H2
HI A few days ago, OneDrive options have gone from the Context Menu (classic - I didn't go back to a new context menu). That happened on two computers OneDrive version 25.149 (I enabled preview as I thought it may solve the problem, the issue happened once I was on the production version) I found an old topic there with registry key deleting, but I don't have these keys. My menu looks that: No option for OneDrive - share, download, save on disk, previous version. OneDrive is set to files on demand. Is there any option to restore this option? Without resetting OneDrive/reinstalling it?
Sharing Folders Issue
Hi I have been trying to get my head around things, and had a bit of help but now I am stuck. I'm involved with a charity and we use the cloud to share essential information with volunteers. Our previous system, which closed down, allowed us to share files / folders without people having an account. However when I tried to share a folder with one of my test email addresses, it wants me to create a microsoft account, with authenticator. Now while I fully understand the implications of security, the share is literally one folder which they can't edit anyway. Is there any way around this? It's going to cause grief and I believe will put people off. I just want to be able to share a folder that people can access via the link. Thank you for your help.
Persistent OneDrive File Handler Cache After Removal
I’m a developer supporting an Azure AD application that was previously registered with a File Handler for PDF files (used to display the "Open with Lumin PDF" option in OneDrive’s context menu). The File Handler configuration was removed on June 19, 2024. However, some of our customers are still seeing the "Open with Lumin PDF" option in their OneDrive UI. This is causing confusion and additional support overhead on our side. I understand this is likely a caching issue, so I’ve asked our customers to: Clear the server-side cache by following https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/developer/file-handlers/reset-cache?view=odsp-graph-online Clear their browser cache, re sign-in in a new browser profile I’ve already tried all possible solutions within my control to resolve this caching issue, but none have been effective. Is there a way to encrypt photos and files on One Drive so that no one can access them even it they get hacked? I have read about bitlocker but not sure how it works. Someone said I need to encrpt my files first then upload them to onedrive? What about the ones already on One drive? Do I delete those first? Background: I have Onedrive personal & business both set up and working. I have a shared link that I want to connect to my onedrive business. Onedrive auto logs in to my personal account regardless of the chrome profile, login status of either onedrive, browser used etc. Apparently the ultimate solution is: open an incognito window, paste the sharing link which opens onedrive online un-signed in. Now: I enter my business account login (a *.onmicrosoft.com account) and before even getting a password screen I get Interestingly (to me), if I open the same browser, type onedrive.live.com, click signin and enter the same business account it logs in fine. Hello I use Windows 10. All the files in the OneDrive folder has the green checkmark. 1. Are the files with the green checkmark both in a local OneDrive folder and in the OneDrive online cloud? 2. If I "Unlink this PC" - what happens to all the files with the green checkmark? They are kept in the OneDrive online cloud? They are deleted from the local OneDrive folder? 3. If I download a file from OneDrive online browser then the files "Modified" date is being updated - bad. If I copy a file from the OneDrive folder in Windows to another local folder, then the "Modified" date is unchaged - good. I have only tried this on the same computer. But what if there is 2 computers: Computer 1 copy file A to the Windows OneDrive folder. Computer 2 (another computer) copies file A from Windows OneDrive folder to another local folder - is the "Modified" date unchanged or updated? I know the "Created" and "Accessed" dates are being updated / new when copying file A. Thank you
