- Christian ZenzanoBrass ContributorIt was mentioned that Windows workstation ready to upgrade to Windows 11 will do so this fall. How will Automatic updates now which machines to upgrade to Windows 11 or Windows 10 21H2
- Christian ZenzanoBrass Contributorit was mentioned that organizations can run Windows 10 and Windows 11 side by side. I see that Microsoft will continue to support at least one Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel until October 14, 2025. I also see that there is already a Windows 10 version 21H2 in the works. Will Windows 10 continue to use the nomenclature 2 digit year followed by 1 or 2nd half. If so what will the nomenclature for for Windows 11 be.
- raksahooCopper ContributorWhat are the deciding factors for an organization to choose Windows 10 21H2 in place of Windows 11?

Is your hardware eligible for Windows 11? --> YES: Cool, try out Windows 11 --> No 😞 That's ok, Windows 10, 21H2 is also awesome! Best part - you can use the same quality update management for both the Win 11 and Win 10 devices in your organization.
- R_StarzuftIron ContributorScreen updates are causing me to lose my place when reading. Is there an adjustment for this ? The video was also disrupted numerous times when the screen chose to scroll.

Click the 'Page Refresh' link next to the drop-down menu and it will manually refresh the comments without interrupting the video. Also you can set your preferences to have comments automatically refresh every 60 seconds in that drop-down menu.
- R_StarzuftIron ContributorWhere is the drop down menu ?
- JosefCopper ContributorAre there any options for customers, who end up with not supported version of Windows 10 due to internal, or another process blocks? Is there option like for Windows 7 - Extended Security Updates?

Microsoft
Hi, Josef, thanks for joining the event. We have not announced a Windows 10 ESU at this time, but will be looking at the options as we get closer to the end of life date.- Christian ZenzanoBrass Contributornote: from what i see, Windows 10 EOL for Pro home is 10-14-25 Microsoft will continue to support at least one Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel until October 14, 2025. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-10-iot-enterprise
- Christian ZenzanoBrass ContributorIs there new desktop certification requirements ( https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/win_cert/certification-requirements-for-windows-desktop-apps?redirectedfrom=MSDN ) for Windows 11? Most current version i see is version 10 from July 29, 2015
- acabelloCopper ContributorWe are continuing our compatible by design approach we started from Windows 10 to Windows 11, through our multiple efforts across validation, discovery and partner outreach. Based on these efforts, we have a positive signal of the continued compatibility with Windows 11, to the same standard as Windows 10. We recommend that all our partners continue to support the confidence of our shared customers in the new version of Windows by validating that apps are fully functional on Windows 11. You can read more about those efforts here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/windows-11/

Our Microsoft Learning team is constantly adding new certifications and retiring old certifications. We can expect new exams related to Windows 11 to start showing up shortly after Windows 11 is GA. Keep an eye on the Microsoft Learning pages.
- JosefCopper ContributorPurchased apps are no longer supported/possible in Windows Store for Bussiness. Could you please let me know, what are options here - example HEVC Video Extension.
- KevinMineweaser_MSFT
Microsoft
Hi Josef, HEVC options for commercial customers are currently under investigation. We currently have no further information to share at this time. Please feel free to reach out to me with your business needs. kevinmi@microsoft.com Thanks! -Kevin- KevinMineweaser_MSFT why the HEVC and HEIF extension does not come for free, it is not like they would not be needed given the amount of iPhones out there. I regularly see people ditching Windows Photos and Video app and choosing 3rd party just because they are not even aware they would just need to buy this extension to make it work. 3rd party video, audio and photo apps are prone to security issues. How does this fit with the Windows 11 and Microsoft zero trust philosophy?
- mikeh14Copper ContributorIt was mentioned that it will be a recommended path to use TPM chips as part of passwordless integration. The issue with using the TPM chips is the limit of users on shared devices. Will there also be a cloud based option for using windows hello in Windows 11 that will overcome this obstacle?
- R_StarzuftIron ContributorIf a FIDO key is an option why not just require it too instead of tossing working devices ? There are keys available that allow both authentication and portability. Do we really need to toss the expensive systems ?
- mikeh14Copper Contributorbecause purchasing Fido keys is a lot more expensive over a 2 year period than it is to maintain a virtual CA environment...... Not to mention the management overhead of maintaining those keys. Having an environment that puts as little strain on the end user, as well as removing the management of keys is more than worth the price of admission.
- Alan_Meeus
Microsoft
You are correct. A solution can be to use a FIDO2 security key for multi user PCs. Visit https://aka.ms/gopasswordless
- mikeh14Copper ContributorShould have been more specific. The goal is to use Windows Hello for Business with facial recognition in a hybrid environment. One of the largest obstacles to overcome is the necessity for antiquated methods of passing credentials by federating the environment and using a CA server. Is there going to be a better path using cloud based security to connect to the hybrid environment?
- Reza_AmeriSilver ContributorOne common concern is due to new requirements, I expect several devices on the market won't be able to upgrade to Windows 11 and in this case, there is a need to purchase a new device. Let say when CPU is not compatible we have to purchase a new PC. I understand having a powerful system would be beneficial to users but asking users to purchase large set of new PCs is so hard and the support for Windows 10 will be ended in just few years.
- R_StarzuftIron Contributor1. Why wouldnt there be available some kind of add-in board or USB dongle to resolve this ? Most builder PC's have ports and card slots for devices that could solve this issue. 2. Although 'some' industry has a replacement cycle of 3-5 years there are a lot of third party organizations and small offices that tend to stretch their resources. If Security is an issue then why do I still walk into a doctors office and see Windows XT or Windows 7 equipment handling my records ? 3. How will Microsoft solve the problem of a user asking a company to search for best insurance or other service only to find the company that did the shopping comparison work also shared my personal information to everyone they talked to ? Recently got a 'security breach' notification from an insurance company I never heard of. Too many companies ask for more information than legally required and then carelessly share with anyone they choose. TPM wont fix that.

Microsoft
Hi Reza, we fully hear your concerns. The reason behind the new requirements are designed to ensure that devices function and remain secure - learn more here: https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2021/06/28/update-on-windows-11-minimum-system-requirements/ . I would love to highlight that Windows 10 will continue to be supported until 2025 and we will ensure it remains protected and supported until that time. :) Following on that, do you have a large concern for your particular hardware refresh cycle / device types? We have found most enterprises refresh devices every 3-5 years. Would be great to learn more about your experiences. 🙂- Reza_AmeriSilver ContributorHi Aria, this is my concern , 4 years is too short. Could you believe I am still seeing devices running Windows 7 and even though they have Window 10 license, they haven't upgrade yet. Imagine, when we ask them purchase a new PC. And sometimes, devices are act as a public PC, like Kiosk, Public Network and minimum tasks and we might be able to persuade them to upgrade to newer Windows but asking them to purchase a new device is very hard.
