Cursor keeps on switching from normal to loading

I just updated my Windows OS (it's now 19045.6093) and I'm using Microsoft 365. For one reason or another, my curser keep on alternating from the regular pointer to the spinning wheel every half second. And it only does when inside a word document.

Any fix to this?

  • This option is not available in the latest version (Microsoft Word for Microsoft 365 Version 2506 Build 16.0.18925.20076) of Word. It seems to be related to having an image in the header for me because if i delete the image it stops cursor flickering issue. This is a new problem though since i have been using the exact same word template (with same header image) for years without this problem. I have tried re-inserting image and changing image, and re-sizing image. I also tried changed the word-wrap settings and positioning settings. nothing solves it except deleting the image from the header completely.

I might have found a work around as I've also been having this issue for quite some time. I ended up bringing the image in the header to the front and setting the "With text wrapping" as "square". This seems to have stopped the jitter problem, for now.

    Hi,

I cannot have this solution, the image is mandatory on my document. So the issue reported remains without a viable solution.

    thanks

I'm pretty sure I left replies on here but they were lost somehow. But the issue has come back. It looks like scrolling down causes the issue to resurface, but I can't be sure.

A couple things I found out:

    1. Re-installing MS Word does not resolve the issue.
    2. It seems to be a file issue because the cursor doesn't tweak:
      1. in a new document from the Normal template or any other template.
      2. in files last modified on July 15.

I just copy-pasted the file text into a different document with the same template and that seems to have resolved the issue.

(Turns out, I cannot edit the post or comments)

Some more things I found out:

    1. Re-installing MS Office 365 doesn't resolve the issue.
    2. Using another template doesn't fix the issue.
    3. It seems to be a file issue because the cursor doesn't tweak in:
      1. new documents with the Normal template.
      2. new documents from the same dotx file.
      3. a document last editing in July 15.
    4. Copy-pasting the contents to a new documents seems to have fixed it.

It looks like the issue started on July 16.

Turn off the dynamic cursor in Word's Options→Advanced→Display, then update your graphics card driver.

This is not a solution, it is a workaround that reduces the functionality of a program that a few months ago was working just fine. Microsoft introduced a bug, took my money for the subscription and released a worse version than I had previously.   Microsoft Quality Control is lacking either through negligence or deliberate action, all the while demanding billions in licensing and subscriptions every month from customers. This is simply not acceptable or professional.

I don't seem to have that options.

I have found out a couple of things. I'll edit the original post.
