How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

- dougcwbCopper ContributorThis is by far the worst decision made to w11
- tlhintoqIron ContributorNot even close. At least this is easily fixed with a patch. The worse one is virtual desktop transition. Used to be animated, so you could see the screen slide left/right when you moved to a new desktop. Not in 11. Now its a delay... then you are just on the new screen. You can't tell if you moved left/right... or if you've reached the end. So if you're used to scroll right a few times until you hit the end, you can't do that. The little delay makes you wonder if you hit the right key combo, so you do it again... now wait now you've gone too far... then when you land there's a delay while the background changes. Its all just horrible.
My new laptop came Win10 and I will *NEVER* install 11 on anything again. As soon as I'm fully migrated to the new laptop the old one will be nuked and Win10 re-installed from scratch.

Microsoft does not really monitor this page, clearly...
So make sure you first go to the Microsoft Feedback Hub (it's installed in Windows, search for it in your start menu) and submit a complaint there.
Also be sure to upvote the existing complaint https://aka.ms/AAeyt69
It's currently one of the top suggestions being made, which is good.
The more attention we can give to the problem on the Microsoft Feedback Hub, the better, so before writing another complaint here, make sure you complain there. Actually it would be good to keep this post visible to others so maybe don't reply in here anymore as it won't accomplish anything, but just visit the link above.

Hi Everyone,
I assure you that the Microsoft Team is working and looking into all feedback on the forums and in the feedback hub.
These forums what I believe are for others to come and ask questions to get help on technical issues which can be solved.
There is a lot of code and a lot of recording that needs to be done to get all feedback done to be working for all users.
Which will be localized, working with 3rd party apps, in control panel/settings, different localization like French, English so on, ways to get this done through Voice access and all the accessibility. Also, the feedback is being sent to the feedback hub team which gets send to the team who is allocated to the taskbar team. Which is in turn coded, tested internally then to preview then to stable.
The first place to send feedback is through Feedback Hub and the feedback options on Microsoft Apps.
I have seen news online that they are bringing back the folders and drag/drop back to Windows 11, remember they are trying to make all thing in Windows modern and new.
It still has a lot of legacy stuff that has be carefully recoded to work with new/old programs, such as the new taskbar was made on a newer code which didn't support non combine yet.
Patience will have its worth when its done, it will be even better than you have imagined, such as my suggestion on Bing for desktop and so on...
If you really want it back, install Explorer patcher or go back to Windows 10 and wiat for future updates.
Have a wonderful day everyone!

Where is the fix for this? Pages and pages and pages and pages of comments and complaints due to a fundamental change to a basic part of this Windows user interface and still there isn't a fix for this?
>> Also be sure to upvote the existing complaint https://aka.ms/AAeyt69That link doesn't work. Just opens to a page saying a hub will open but nothing happens.
- Tural_MuradbayliCopper ContributorI do not like the fact that Microsoft forces on us Mac Experience. I like Windows Experience, which was before the release of Windows 11. Microsoft, please return what was yours and what we are accustomed to for many years. Please return "never combine taskbar buttons" options.
- bg6293Copper ContributorMan this is ridiculous and unnecessary do this. My productivity has gone just because that. Why MS do this with us? Why i do not the right to choice to combine taskbar or not ? This is not fair with the user MS. Bring this features back please. I beg.
- ohyouknowCopper Contributor+1 to previous comments. I really need this feature back, I really need to be able to see my different internet browser windows separately for work.
- HipmuncBrass ContributorFriendly reminder to all who post here: Microsoft does not read this forum like they do the Feedback Hub.

Hello friend you have shared a link for participants of the Insider program - for most users it is without useful!
I assure you that the Microsoft Team sees this discussion, but surely giving feedback to the Windows Feedback Center is appropriate!
And the addition of diagnostic data and a description of the problem makes it possible - to update the code and repair by Microsoft engineers.
Best regards
- funkdilyiciousBrass ContributorAgreed and I have commented in another string on this issue. If forced to upgrade to Win 11 again and there's no "Never Combine Task Bar" option, we might have to hire more people. Accountants need multiple open Excel windows and need to see everything that is open. Mousing over an icon to then try to choose the one to switch to (and get wrong half the time because you can't distinguish one from the next) is an insane waste of time and it's extremely frustrating. I don't know how to get MS to understand this. It's ruining my one-person CA/Finance business. I return to strings like this every day to leave comments and likes. It's that important. 😡

Same here, my productivity is ruined. I hope everyone who comes here also votes in the Feedback Hub app, as that is pretty much the only channel through which MS can find out about our discontent.
- DaveWattoCopper ContributorWell just upgraded to Win 11. Seems MS think they can mimic Apple by deciding what is best for their customers. OMG. Won't be long before Win 11 only works with Edge (which is also pants). Sort this out and ensure the person who thought this was productive is fired.
- tony984Copper ContributorI'd like to add my name to the list of users who would like the "Never Combine" option restored; the removal of said option is a big step backwards for the usability of Windows.

I need three hthings so far that Windows 11 has taken away.
I need to be able to move the task bar to the right side of the screen.
I need to be able to not group windows in the task bar.
Finally, I need you to provide opt in to One Drive when someone gets a new Windows operating system. Now I've got to find and remove all those files you saved to the cloud, remove them, disable One Drive, and uninstall One Drive.
After that, I'm going to cancel my Microsoft account. I managed without having an account for over 20 years.

Fortunately I tried Win11 on a VM before installing it for real. The "Never Combine" option in the taskbar settings is the very FIRST setting I change on any new install. It's by far the most important setting to change in my opinion. Removing it is just short-sighted, anti-consumer stupidity. There are ways to get it back relatively easily, without having to use 3rd party apps but all of those methods would not be permitted in a commercial environment and it's highly likely MS will prevent them from working in future updates. They're VERY unlikely to restore the feature because that would be admitting they've made an error in judgement and there's no way they're going to do that. Think back to Windows 8, did we ever get the "Up one folder" button on explorer restored? No, we had to wait for Windows 10 to get it back. Microsoft's ego will just make them vehemently defend their decision ad infinitum. We may get it restored in Windows 12, but until then guys, seriously, don't hold your breath.
