Install EP_SETUP.EXE and run it, restart your PC and off you go.

There didn't seem to be any way to show app tray icons after Explorer Patcher was installed, other than behind the little top facing arrow. So uninstalled.

Has anyone tried this? Is there a discussion or forum of people that had problems with this?

I hope this above solution is a safe solution. Not sure why has Microsoft made life so miserable for me to do my work. I need to roll back to Win 10 to do my work.

  • I have serious trouble understanding what kind of a brainworm infestation could a person designing taskbar for Wins 11 have to not only go on with this useless and insulting feature of combining buttons but only make it the only option.

    Dear Microsoft,
Please stop emphasizing form over function. Most of us who use Windows are trying to get work done as efficiently as possible. Did anybody think what would happen if you opened more than 1 spreadsheet?

Please Microsoft, bring the never combine taskbar icons back. Far too many people rely on it for their daily activities

I am so glad that I installed Windows 11 in a VM before upgrading any other computer. This is a setting that turn off on every PC or server I use as I find having the taskbar combined and the labels removed frustrating and unintuitive to use. I won't be upgrading anything until this oversight is resolved.

hoanglongson for now you may try https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/releases

You just put dxgi dll into windows folder, restart and you can tweak taskbar to be like in windows 10 with nevercombine options etc. Everything is described in the link.

Elboyler Sir, the link you have posted was not enough accurate. But anyway, that app just solved the issue for Windows 11

here is the instruction: I just installed the app, gave admin permission (scary, but 'thanks' to 'genius' from microsoft who decided he/she can be innovator in usability based on focus group of people with very strong deviations from the common user group),"
5 seconds the bar disappeared, and then *PUFFF* the old Win 10 configurable bar is back!
I got the app from here:

FFS and RTFM, and why are you calling me sir? 🙂 The link was accurate and is working till every w11 version. I'm on beta which does NOT need damned EXPLORER PATCHER anymore.

I don't see anything in his documentation specifically about Never Combine Taskbar Buttons on windows 11, which is what this thread is all about. Can you be more specific?

  • I recommend you to drop a feedback on this to Microsoft, using Feedback hub app.

Also, see if this guide helps you:

FYI, there is already a long discussion about this in following thread:

    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-insider-program/how-to-let-windows-11-quot-never-combine-taskbar-buttons-quot/m-p/2513043/page/2
