Double-clicking Outlook system tray icons no longer restores the app since Moment 2 update
Since the lastest release, if I double-click my Outlook mail icon in the system tray, it does not bring Outlook to focus. It simply makes the icon flash in the task bar.
Also, the system tray icons take up much more space now - is it possible to have them appear on two rows, or bunched closer together?

frederick_hope I have the same problem, but I'm not sure if I have the same Outlook you all are talking about, as my settings section looks quite different:
In particular, there is no "advanced" section in the settings. I'm on Windows 11 22H2.

vnicolici You're using the 'New Outlook' which can be opted in and out of with the toggle at the top-right corner:
I am using the same version these days but as you've pointed out, the problem still exists.

frederick_hope Yeah, previously I was using the Windows Mail client, but I am trying to switch to this Outlook. I contacted support about the issue, but they couldn't reproduce it (or they didn't understand the problem). I'll have to send them a recording with the problem.
- Nate-LoweryCopper ContributorI'm experiencing the same issue after upgrading to Windows 11 22H2. I have the "Hide When Minimized" option checked on the Outlook system tray icon's right-click menu. Prior to the update, double-clicking the system tray icon would always open Outlook. Now it only causes the taskbar's pinned Outlook icon to flash and opens Outlook behind other maximized windows. If no othe Window is maximized, then it will be visible, but this behavior is becoming tiresome due to many years of muscle memory. If I right-click on the system tray icon and then choose the "Open Outlook" option, then it will display on top of other windows, but that should also be the behavior on double-click.

Microsoft
Hi all,
It appears that this issue is fixed for future Windows builds (a related bug was fixed for Task Manager having the same issue). The first fixed build is 22621.2050. I'm on Windows 11 Beta build 22631.2191 and I see it fixed in that build. If anyone else is on Beta and can test and double check me, please do.

Hey Gabe_Bratton; thanks for chiming in.
I'm on Windows 11 with OS build 22621.2134 and unfortunately, I still have the same issue. I would have guessed 22621.2134 to be newer than 22621.2050, but I'm keen to see if the beta builds do indeed fix the problem.

Doubleclicking on tray icon stops working when multiple Outlook windows are combined in taskbar.
Solution is to use NEVER COMBINE option for taskbar icons in latest windows 11 insider build or third-party app to replace taskbar with never combine feature like StartAllBack.
- ankprakaCopper ContributorSame issue after Windows upgrade !!
- dippsCopper ContributorI have the exact same issue. It's so annoying. Come on Microsoft, fix this.
- mlyubkinCopper ContributorI had the same problem after recent Windows 11 upgrade to 22H2.
To fix the issue I used Office 365 "Quick Repair" option as described in the "2. REPAIR MICROSOFT OFFICE" chapter of the following article:
https://www.guidingtech.com/top-ways-to-fix-outlook-not-opening-on-windows-11/- frederick_hopeBrass Contributor
For anyone interested, I tried mlyubkin's suggestion (Quick Repair) and it does not fix the issue described in my original post. Outlook is still not brought to front when double-clicking the notification tray icon.
Over the weekend I also tried toggling on the preview version of Outlook with the new interface etc. Same problem with that too.

Apologies if I misunderstood the issue. Double click on the system tray icon would open and bring Outlook to front only if Outlook was previously minimized to tray. If Outlook's already open, but is under other windows - the tray double click does nothing.
- StiopataCopper ContributorI have the same problem. Now I must make 4 more clicks to see my inbox than before! And this is not only with outlook. This strange behavior of taskbar icons is also noted on other programs I use - like VLC player.
Any suggestions how to restore the previous behavior? - rzepcioCopper ContributorIs there any planned fix for this issue? It is very annoying, I thought it is related to Windows 11 upgrade. All the other applications on single LPM maximize and focus the window while Outlook is showing context menu and this is most likely what is causing this issue.
- frederick_hopeBrass Contributorrzepcio I thought you might be on to something with the context menu being a potential cause, but I have another app that on single-click opens a context menu, and on double-click shell executes correctly and brings the window to the foreground. That app is 'IntelĀ® Driver & Support Assistant'.
- RamJ47Copper ContributorSometimes it takes time, Do it slowly, just take a pause and do it again or click only once and the problem will be gone, it's as easy as that, isn't it.

What sometimes have worked for me is double clicking the system tray icon, give a brief pause and then do it again. It has often times worked when I am patient enough to give a decent pause, but when you are in middle of things and want to move fast it is quite frustrating and you may as well just do right-click and select 'open outlook'.
