Double-clicking Outlook system tray icons no longer restores the app since Moment 2 update
Since the lastest release, if I double-click my Outlook mail icon in the system tray, it does not bring Outlook to focus. It simply makes the icon flash in the task bar. Also, the system tray icons ...

vnicolici You're using the 'New Outlook' which can be opted in and out of with the toggle at the top-right corner:
I am using the same version these days but as you've pointed out, the problem still exists.

frederick_hope Yeah, previously I was using the Windows Mail client, but I am trying to switch to this Outlook. I contacted support about the issue, but they couldn't reproduce it (or they didn't understand the problem). I'll have to send them a recording with the problem.

One of my colleagues checked with the Windows Team and the fix is supposed to be in production Win 11 23H2 October and later. He and I are on Beta and see it fixed there. My Beta is currently at 23H2 build 22635.2552.- frederick_hopeOct 31, 2023Brass Contributor
Gabe_Bratton I'm running the same version:
I'm starting to suspect that maybe you and I have different issues? To be clear about what this thread is about, here are some very specific reproduction steps:
- Open Outlook and minimise it to the Taskbar.
- Open a browser window and have it maximised.
- Double-click the Outlook icon in the System tray (not Taskbar).
Expected behaviour
Outlook is automatically restored and brought to focus in front of the browser window.
Actual behaviour
Outlook is restored but remains behind the browser window. To bring it to focus in front of the browser window, one must then click again on the Taskbar icon.
I know the expected behaviour is how it used to work because my work PC which I RDP into every day has Windows 10 and that's how it still works there. It used to work on Windows 11 too prior to Moment 2.

frederick_hope,
The description you shared is exactly the bug. If you test with other apps in the system tray do you see the same issue? The original bug was for Task Manager but it was addressed for the apps in the system tray. I just tested Task Manager and it is working for me also on this machine. Also, just to double check I am not overlooking anything I have had other colleagues that were escalating the issue test and confirm the fix too.
I was looking for other feedback in the Feedback Hub to see if any other reports there. The only issue that I had not seen earlier is this one "Can't open apps or context menus for icons in the show hidden icons flyout in system tray in Windows 11". I don't repro this one either but I also don't have many icons in the hidden flyout. If you test this does it work for you?
Since you still repro maybe there are multiple root causes or manifests on different configurations. Please go to the Windows Feedback Hub and submit a feedback to help ensure it gets escalated. The bug I tracked was the only one I saw that was open for it.
