A user in SharePoint subsite has FULL CONTROL of access but cannot access permissions list.

A user in a SharePoint Subsite has Full Control of access but when she tried to access the permissions of the subsite, an error shows that "Sorry, you don't have access"

Please help. The user already tried clearing the browser's cache and tried using a different browser but still cannot access the permissions of subsite.

Just to make sure, you could use browser developer tools to see if it comes up with some resource (image, CSS file, script file) that it's unable to access. Look for HTTP 403 errors in the network tab. I guess it occurs server-side bu I think there must be some resource (again image, CSS, script or something else)  being accessed that's located outside of the site your user has Full Control permission on. Typically this resource will exist in the top-level site of the site collection and is probably referenced from the Master Page or injected by some custom script

We have had similar things like this happen to us.  We assign permissions and the check doesn't pick up the new level even after several days.

What I have done and it sounds drastic is, Delete the user from the parent site collection and then have them sign out of the browser to drop all sessions and clear the browser cache. Clear the Credential Manager on the workstation of any that have Office365/SharePoint listed.  Then have the user try to authenticate again.

  • You mention that this is in a sub site.  What permissions does the user have to the root site of the site collection?  Try temporarily giving them Full Control in the root site and see if that clears things up.  If it does try paring back their root site permissions and see if they get the access denied again. Since permissions involve things outside of the individual site I suspect they can't access something in the root site that they need to configure permissions in the sub site.

      Hi Paul Stork

Thank you for your response. I really appreciate it.

I will try what you said and will get back to you on this.

I hope that it would solve the issue.

      Thank you.

Have you checked the permissions on the master page or any references css pages? If this is SharePoint on prem then you can view the ULS logs to see where the permissions issue lies.

I'm trying to reproduce but I'm unable to so far... What type of site collection (Modern or Classic and template used) and subsite (template used) are you using and how is your user accessing the permissions of the subsite? Just through the gear icon in the top right selecting Site Settings --> Site Permissions?
