Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
Hi All,
The outlook search option stopped working properly after WIndows10 update.
The issue has happened after installing a security update from Windows (December 14, 2021—KB5008212).
I had tried re-building the Indexing but it was same. Once the issue started I had searched for the solutions and finally found that recent Windows update has created the issue. I had uninstalled that particular update and the search issue was fixed.
So let us know when the fix will be available for this bug?

Installed yesterdays updates, KB5011493 and KB4023057 and the fault is still present. Windows 11, Microsoft 365.
- AC20221045Copper ContributorAs of 3/14/2022, problem is absolutely still NOT fixed. Windows 11, Office 365 MSO. System search is indexing fewer than 2 objects per second (~26 per minute). Search within the Outlook app is nonexistent or horribly incomplete - cannot find anything recent, and many times can't find anything period. Have tried most workarounds (besides a complete OS rebuild - Microsoft would need to pay ME for that). NOTHING WORKS - now three months after the company introduced the problem with a "patch". This is hugely affecting our small business. Abjectly incompetent behavior on the part of MSFT - ostensibly a "Fortune 500 company". SMDH.

It's a pain but after each reboot I manually stop and restart the "windows search" service (make sure Outlook is closed) and it works for me.
At least it's indexing the newest emails as they arrive.
- JohanCoBrass ContributorAgreed problem still precisest

Search problem has re-appeared today.
Windows 10/64 Pro version 21H2 - 19044.1586 using Outlook 2010Last updates: KB4023057, KB5011487
There were 2 Windows defender updates in the last 2 days!
The search in my outbox showed items correctly I believe until Monday 14th. The item sent today did not show, however it did appear in a split second before it disappeared.
I tried the workaround of stopping the windows search service (& Outlook), and restarting it, however it did not resolve the issue.
Microsoft this isn't fixed!

Hello all,
I use the solution on this link (registry key) : https://support.microsoft.com/fr-fr/office/la-recherche-outlook-n-affiche-pas-les-e-mails-r%C3%A9cents-apr%C3%A8s-la-mise-%C3%A0-jour-windows-kb5008212-cc5345cf-8007-403a-bb23-f3818653c2df
Everything is ok but the computer is a Windows 10 Pro without the KB5008212. It seems it's not this KB which provoke this problem.
- JohanCoBrass ContributorThere is no fix yet for either Window 10 or 11
- Franco1961Copper ContributorI received an automatic update on my computer a couple of days ago. Since then my search in outlook is working fine. I am not able to say whether this is a permanent or temporary fix. I will give further feedback at the end of the week. I have windows 10, 21H1, OS build 19043.1466
So, this might be a temporary or permanent fix for windows 10 but not necessarily for windows 11. If anyone wish to know which update I received, please guide me where to look for the relevant KB number in my computer and I will look into it, as I do not know how to do it myself.- JohanCoBrass ContributorHello Franco
Go into your search under your start icon on task bar type is "Windows update settings" then go to "update history" you will find the KB number there.
Does anybody know if i could roll back to Windows 10?

Hi all,
I am checking with Windows on any status updates. I believe the Windows Known Issue Rollback was automatically implemented in the Windows 10 updates that went out yesterday 2/8/22. If you install those updates, can you check and confirm if that helped to mitigate? I am checking further on a long-term fix status.
For Windows 11 there was no rollback option, so we have to wait for the fix. I am checking with Windows if there is any date yet. In the meantime, please use the Outlook Workaround.
The Outlook Workaround is to set a registry key that will cause Outlook to use its built-in search. I created some reg key downloads to make it easier to use, https://1drv.ms/u/s!AobSYdEz_BdhhuZZo1KZ0xAi7U7t-w?e=xZLQna.
1. To use the Outlook workaround download the enable_preventindexing.reg key from my OneDrive link above.
2. After it downloads click Open and then OK when prompted. This will set the registry key.
3. After the registry key is set restart Outlook Desktop.
You will know the reg key is set because you will see this message above the search results:
After the fix comes out you can disable the workaround by doing the following:
1. In the OneDrive link above download the disable_preventindexing.reg key.
2. After it download click Open and then OK when prompted. This will set the registry key.
3. After the registry key is set restart Outlook Desktop.
- Franco1961Copper ContributorHi Gabe. I did not receive a roll out for my PC on the 8th of February, can you please indicate the KB number and where to get it from. Would it work for me? I have:
Windows 10 home
Version 21H1
OS build 19043.1466
- jhonedylCopper ContributorHello Microsoft, we are still waiting for the permanent fix, not the workaround & rollback. It's funny marked the issue as resolved https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-search-not-showing-recent-emails-after-windows-update-kb5008212-cc5345cf-8007-403a-bb23-f3818653c2df
- JohanCoBrass ContributorAgreed this is outrageous even windows 11 is not working no email searches i get up to 250 mail in a 24 hour cycle can you imagine what a headache it is to search for a specific mail of a week ago.
Please Microsoft help us out here we cant do this anymore- Franco1961Copper ContributorAbsolutely ridicules for Microsoft to provide a less than good solution at best for some Windows 10/11 environments, whilst for others, such as me who have windows 10 Home no solution at all, as this less than good fix requires gpedit, but gpedit is not within windows 10 Home package. Tried everything and wasted an incredible amount of time with this issue. Microsoft, when are we going to get a good and permanent fix for all windows 10/11 users?
- k3tivCopper ContributorOh c'mon, dear Microsoft how dare you close the case https://bit.ly/34AsQlw with status RESOLVED
-The only one working sollution so far is TEMPORARY WORKAROUND by disabling index_search in outlook, but serach in BIG outlook database it's paint in the **bleep** and its totally unacceptable (I look after many users who have 20-40GB PST file with thousands of email)
-Unistalling KB5008212 in case of Windows 10 and disable Windows Update works too, but what about security of that systems?
-KIR solution - maybe (I didnt check yet) it will work but as I know GPEDIT tool its a part of Windows10 Pro/Utlimate OS
so lets summing up:
-there are no fix fix for Windows 10 Home (perhaps you can upload gpedit from Windows PRO , but i think its violating MS licence)
-there are no fix for Windows 11- JohanCoBrass ContributorAGREED windows 11 still not working
- FgrzeticCopper ContributorThank you, that someone says this. THIS IS NOT RESOLVED
- Franco1961Copper ContributorI second that, the absence of gpedit in my windows 10 home has thus far prevented me from resolving the issue
- brocklee31Copper Contributor
I just installed the NEW update and now all is well
- JohanCoBrass ContributorAll seems to start working i would say the last 13 hours give or take cant be searched. Windows 11 Office 365
- Franco1961Copper Contributora new update for which version? windows 10 home 21H1 or which?
- TimEll1250Copper Contributornot yet fixed for windows 11 - latest here - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-search-not-showing-recent-emails-after-windows-update-kb5008212-cc5345cf-8007-403a-bb23-f3818653c2df#ID0ELH=Windows_11
- Syed_Uzair_AhmedCopper ContributorThe outlook search indexing issue got resolved by Applying Microsoft Latest patch for Windows 10 - KB5010793
KB5009543 had VPN issues.- JohanCoBrass ContributorWould this work for Window 11?
- Syed_Uzair_AhmedCopper Contributor
You can go for Microsoft New Update for Windows 11-KB5010795 . ( released by Microsoft on 1/17/2022)
The previous update was 5009566 ( released by Microsoft on 1/10/2022 )
Its not tested, but you can give it a try.
- TimEll1250Copper ContributorI have updated windows 11 with 2022-01 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 11 for x64 (KB5009469) AND 2022-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5008353). This seems to be a temp fix as the problem returns after shutdown.
- TimEll1250Copper ContributorNote - the problem does not return after a restart but it does return after a shutdown. The only quick temp fix for me is to restart windows search in 'Services.msc'.
