Outlook for Mobile (Android?) - "Unable to update event" when trying to change appointment
We've received multiple tickets regarding the error in the subject.
We have On-Prem Exchange 2016 but can't reproduce the error with an alternative Mail App (Standard GMail App.
I've also found a public report from 4 days ago stating that using Outlook for Mobile gives the same error while using it with a GMail account (https://support.google.com/calendar/thread/259312857/can-t-edit-google-calendars-from-outlook-on-android?hl=en).
Since I haven't found any leads in here regarding this issue I'll open a new post.
App version (Android): 4.2405.2 (32405820)
Account on: Exchange 2016 On-Prem (no Hybrid) fully patched CU23 Nov23SU
Tried to reset the account on the android device but the behavior didn't change after that.
Sync itself works fine - the created appointments display in OWA about 1-10s after creating them and also when creating them in OWA it displays on the Android device after 1-10s.
Changing the appointment in OWA get synced to the Android device.
Changing the appointment in any way (start/end time, date, description/body, inviting people, change of reminder settings, (un-)setting the private flag) on the Android device gives the error "Unable to update event".
Deletion and creation of appointments on the Android device is possible.
Does anyone have any idea what broke, when it broke and how (if possible) to fix it?
My guess is that there's nothing we (users/admins) can do. Possibly a downgrade of the app (sideloading via MDM).
There have been about 5 new versions of the app in the last 10 days.

- bhadan1Copper ContributorI'm also having this same issue. It's not related to any Samsung OneUI update. It started happening about 3-4 or so days ago. Really annoying
- blake16Copper ContributorI also received a report for one of our users 2 days ago on our on-premises exchange 2019 server. initially They were getting an "unable to update" error message related to calendar entries.
I tested via OWA where I was able to edit a calendar entry. I tried having them remove & re-add their account from Outlook & test again. Still the same issue.
Today I tested this on a spare android phone & could also replicate this issue. Appears to be the latest version causing this? - WizaaardCopper ContributorI just noticed an update in the Playstore for Outlook for Mobile, installed it (the version shows as v4.2406.1 (32406812)) and a few quick tests were positive.
Moving an appointment and changing details works again.- Tomzi8571Copper ContributorI also got the same problem, but I don't see that version in the playstore yet... Hopefully it will roll out for everyone!

Same problem, any time I try to update my ZFold3 calendar, I get an error, "unable to update event". This just started doing this in the past 7 to 10 days I believe.

This started happening a couple of weeks ago to me also. It is only on outlook app on my android phone. I looked at the play store and the app was last updated on 2/20, so guessing a bug was introduced in that update.
Would love to have this fixed.
- Olaf_VHCopper ContributorFirst tests with updated app seem positive!
- chris wissingerCopper ContributorSame issue on iOS
- Roine_JohanssonCopper ContributorI have the same problem, Both Android and iOS app is affected.

Wizaaard same issue, so frustrating and just started a few days ago. I have done the same troubleshooting mentioned - reset and then removed/added back the Gmail accounts and the issue persists. I have had to resort to making a whole new event when something changes on a previously created event. Completely inefficient and not sustainable in managing my calendar. Microsoft please advise on issue resolution status.
- MMQCDSCopper ContributorThis has been happening to me for about a week now, after a shed load of consecutive Outlook updates. S23U.
Infuriating as I have to either use a PC or iPhone (shudder) to amend any appointments.- MMQCDSCopper Contributor
I forgot to add, for me, for now at least, the issue only seems to be limited to calendar entries on a shared Gmail calendar.
M$ events appear to work fine.
- ChadUserCopper ContributorI'm having the same issue on my Android Flip 5. It's been happening for a few weeks now. It's frustrating. I've reverted to using Gmail app.

Wizaaard yeah, same issue. Noticed it yesterday. Problem didn't exist before. The android app for outlook mobile on my phone and tablet is problematic but the "new outlook" desktop version allows event changes that sync with Google calendar.
- Olaf_VHCopper ContributorTested with 2 other phones. OnePlus 11 on same android and outlook versions had same issue. OnePlus Nord 2 with android 13 but same outlook version had same issue.

Wizaaard if I'm not mistaken, my problem like this started when Samsung updated OneUI to V6 a couple of days ago. Did you perhaps have the same experience?
- WizaaardCopper Contributor
Steven_D2125Actually I've updated my work phone to Samsung OneUI v6 on tuesday the 20th and got reeled in to test the behavior on the 21st. My colleagues phones got v6 a few weeks before me but we all don't/rarely manage appointments on our phones.
User reports stated that it was noticed on Monday the 19th and our users use mostly Samsung devices but Olaf_VH is on OnePlus so there may or may not be a link to the OS update.
I'll ask our MDM guy if he can find out if and when the devices were updated (or just ask the individual users or remote into their phones) but I sense a rabbit hole (:
